1 Bachelorarbeiten Angebote für Stellen als studentische Hilfskräfte unter 1 Removal, inactivation, exposure and dose response data for pathogens of interest for water reuse systems This thesis work involves a literature review of pathogen removal in select unit processes of interest for eventual implementation in a microbial risk assessment of sequential managed aquifer recharge technology (SMART). 2 Study Projects Angebote für Stellen als wissenschaftliche Hilfskräfte unter 1 Einfluss der Beschaffenheit von Klärschlammaschen als landwirtschaftlicher Phosphor- Dünger auf die Effizienz des P-Kreislaufes In der Landwirtschaft sind die Nährstoffe P und N zur Pflanzenernährung essentiell. Wobei Stickstoff in Form von Ammonium und nach der Nitrifikation als Nitrat pflanzenverfügbar vorliegt und somit auch das Risiko von Verlusten erhöht ist, was zu einer Verschlechterung der Grundwasserqualität beiträgt. Die P-Gehalte in den Böden sind hingegen zum größten Teil immobil. Dies führt unter anderem auch dazu, dass vor allem durch partikelgebundenen Transport (Erosion) P von den Flächen verlagert wird und es somit zur Eutrophierung von Gewässern kommt. Es gibt erste Erkenntnisse, dass eine räumliche Nähe von Ammonium, Nitrifikationshemmstoff und schwerer löslichem Phosphat im Dünger (Klärschlammasche) oder im Boden einen weiteren Nutzen generieren könnte. In dieser Arbeit soll nun der Einfluss der Form/Art einer Klärschlammasche als Phosphor- Dünger (Granulat und Rohasche) auf die P-Mobilisierungsleistung im Modellversuch mit den Kulturen Mais und Raps quantifiziert werden. Grundsätzlich könnten auf diesem Wege insgesamt drei ökonomisch und ökologisch relevante Ziele erreicht werden: 1. Die Nutzung von bisher schlechter pflanzenverfügbarem P 2. Die Minderung der P-Reserven in den Böden und damit verbunden der Belastung von Gewässern durch Erosion 3. Die Nutzung alternativer P-Quellen zur Erzielung der Teilschließung des P-Kreislaufes Die Modell-Untersuchungen sind Teil eines großen Projektes und finden an der Versuchsstation der TUM in Freising statt. 3 Masterarbeiten Angebote für Stellen als wissenschaftliche Hilfskräfte unter 1 Determination of biodegradation rates within sand and biologically activated carbon (BAC) systems Climate change, pollution and growing urban populations are increasingly stressing urban water supplies. Higher levels of treated wastewater in surface water also present a major challenge for drinking water treatment plants. As a reliable and constantly available alternative to potentially contaminated freshwater resources and growing scarcity of potable water supplies, recycled water can help meet increasing requirements for potable and non-potable water. Numerous water reuse schemes are already in practice worldwide. Of particular interest are engineered natural treatment systems, which require less energy to treat water to predetermined standards prior to reuse. A new system based on sequential managed aquifer recharge technology (SMART), in which manipulation of parameters including redox conditions, retention time, oxidizing agents and primary substrate availability are combined in a highly engineered, natural water treatment system, will be investigated. The attunement of these parameters will determine the efficiency of the biofilm-based SMART treatment system, in which various microbial communities are established to degrade chemical and microbial pollutants. Hypothesis: By infiltrating secondary treated wastewater into biological activated carbon (BAC) and sand filtration columns at higher rates than conventional riverbank filtration or managed aquifer recharge systems, biomass should build up faster and be present in greater amount in BAC than in sand, and contribute to greater removal of trace organic chemicals (TOrCs). This thesis project will involve monitoring breakthrough of TOrCs in both BAC and sand systems to determine first order biodegradation rate constants of nearly 20 TOrCs of environmental concern in two column filter systems. A central focus is determining how to characterize the systems to be able to normalize biodegradation rate constants. Additional points of interest include obtaining aqueous and biofilm diffusion coefficients, along with verification of numerous dimensionless numbers of both systems. As a reliable and constantly available alternative to potentially burdened freshwater resources, treated waste water gains in importance for potable and nonpotable water supplies. Besides high levels of treated wastewater in surface water results in high pathogen and chemical pollutant concentrations in surface water, which emphasis the need for new sustainable techniques and the importance of further optimization

5 regarding current praxis. Numerous water reuse schemes are already in practice, but can be further improved. A new pilot scale system based on aquifer recharge will be investigated, in which redox and flow conditions, retention time and primary substrate availability can be manipulated in a highly engineered, natural water treatment system. The fine attunement of these parameters will determine the efficiency of the biofilm-based treatment system, where various microbial communities are established to degrade chemical and microbial pollutants. This technology offers a small foot print and low energy demand alternative to high-tech membrane processes applied for water reuse purposes. Therefore there is an essential need for a process control system. Thesis Tasks: Selection of the surrogate parameters (such as UV) to quantify the treatment efficiency and effluent water quality. Development and test of a monitoring and process control system for the (a) hydraulics subject to changing flow conditions as a function of altering processes in the plant, (b) oxidant dosing to provide steady favorable redox conditions and (c) treatment efficiency of the pilot scale treatment system. Extensive monitoring of surrogate, process and water quality parameters and determination of fate of the pathogens and TOrCs during the maturation period.
