4 Definition der Nanotechnologie Die Nanotechnologie befasst sich mit der kontrollierten Herstellung und Nutzung von Materialien und Komponenten mit funktionsrelevanten Strukturgrößen unterhalb von 100 Nanometern in mindestens einer Richtungsdimension. Dabei resultieren aus der Nanoskaligkeit neue Funktionalitäten und Eigenschaften, die zur Verbesserung bestehender oder zur Entwicklung neuer Produkte und Anwendungen beitragen können. Diese neuen Funktionalitäten und Eigenschaften erlauben eine partikelgrößenabhängige Farbänderungen, eine extreme Zunahme der Wärme- und Stromleitfähigkeit oder eine Steigerung der Reaktivität von Partikeloberflächen.

27 Zusammenfassung Nanotechnologie hat bereits in den Alltag Einzug gehalten. Für die Pharmaindustrie ermöglicht die Verwendung von Nanostrukturen neue Ansätze in der Medikamentenentwicklung und verbesserter Prozesse. Aus wissenschaftlicher Sicht können neue Funktionalitäten von Produkten generiert werden, wenn die Struktur / Eigenschaftsbeziehungen von NanoStrukturen verstanden werden.
