3 Federal Government Programmes to support Electric Mobility Battery and Fuel Cell Systems as alternative Technologies for advancing Electrification of Drivetrains with a Focus but not limited to Surface Transportation Hydrogen/Fuel Cell Vehicles: 700 million Federal Funding for the National Hydrogen/Fuel Cell Innovation Programme (NIP) Battery electric vehicles, (Plug-in) Hybrids: 1,5 billion for R&D since 2009, National Platform for Electric Mobility (NPE) 3

4 The Federal Government Electric Mobility Programme 2011 Focus: Battery Electric Vehicles/Plug-in Hybrids Principles and Policy Goals: Defining Electric Mobility as a priority area on the Federal Government s policy agenda Establishing Germany as lead supplier and market for electric mobility Specific Components: Additional Funding for R&D (up to 1 Billion ) Support for research and demonstration projects in national electric mobility showcases and landmark projects Implementing tax exemptions for electric vehicles Regulations to support Electric Mobility, e.g. road traffic law Support for enhanced university/vocational training Advancing international standardization and harmonization 4

6 Establishing a basic network of H2 Filling Stations until 2017 Basis: Letter of Intent to expand the network of hydrogen filling stations in Germany signed in 2012 by the German Federal Government and several industrial actors total investment more than 40 million (~US$46 million) under the NIP (50/50 public-private) Purpose: testing filling-station technologies establish a basic network of 50 hydrogen stations connecting Germany s metropolitan regions to facilitate market introduction of fuel cell vehicles 6
