2 PLAtinum Wheels Geschmiedete Räder verbinden die besten Eigenschaften von Werkstoffqualität und Fertigungstechnik. Es entstehen Räder von höchster optischer sowie funktioneller Qualität und bilden die Symbiose aus Leichtigkeit und den hervorragenden Eigenschaften des Werkstoffes Aluminium. Ein geschmiedetes Aluminiumrad kann aufgrund der höheren Festigkeit des Werkstoffes wesentlich leichter als ein entsprechend im Gussverfahren hergestelltes Rad sein. Die Gefügestrukturen werden im Fertigungsprozess nicht unterbrochen und das Material ist in hohem Maße verdichtet daraus ergeben sich höhere Festigkeiten. Ein leichtes Rad hat einen wesentlichen fahrdynamischen Vorteil: Es ergeben sich erheblich geringere ungefederte Massen das Ansprechverhalten der Feder-/ Dämpfer elemente des Fahrzeuges wird verkürzt was die Straßenlage und das Handling verbessert. Darüber hinaus sind im Gegensatz zu Gussrädern Lunker- und Porenbildung weit gehend ausgeschlossen womit sich eine wesentlich bessere Polierbarkeit und homogenere Oberfläche ergibt. 2 2

3 P lat i n u m W HEE L S Forged wheels combine the best properties of material quality and production technology. Forged wheels represent both visual and functional quality at the highest level and offer a perfect symbiosis of lightweight design and the exceptional material properties of aluminum. A forged aluminum wheel can be considerably lighter than a cast wheel because of the higher mechanical strength of the material. The forging process does not disrupt the crystalline structure of the metal and the metal itself is extremely densified to give the finished wheel much higher mechanical strength. A lightweight wheel also offers an important advantage to a vehicle s driving dynamics: The reduced unsprung weight shortens the response time of springs and dampers which in turn improves handling and road holding. Contrary to cast wheels the forging process all but eliminates the possibility of cavity and pore formation which means significantly better polishability and more homogenous surfaces. 3 3

4 P L At i n u m W h e e l s 1. In einer Hydraulikpresse wird mit bis zu Tonnen Druck aus einem massiven Block einer hochfesten Aluminium-Knetlegierung der Schmiederohling in Radform gepresst. 2. Das innere Felgenbett wird im Rotationsschmiedeverfahren ebenfalls unter hohem Druck und hoher Temperatur ausgewalzt ähnlich dem Töpferscheibenprinzip. Nach dem Schmieden folgt eine Wärmebehandlung um die mechanischen Eigenschaften nochmals zu verbessern. A billet of high-strength aluminum wrought alloy is transformed into the shape of a wheel by a hydraulic press with a force of up to 8,000 tons. 4 4 The inner rim well is rolled out in a rotary forge under extremely high pressure and temperature a process that follows a similar principle as the potter s wheel. After the forging process an additional thermal treatment further improves the material s mechanical properties.

5 P lat i n u m W HEE L S 3. Danach stehen die fertigen Schmiederohlinge für die weitere Be arbeitung bereit. The finished forged wheel blanks are now ready for further ma chining. 4. Auf roboterbestückten vollautomatischen CNC Bearbeitungzentren werden nun die Oberflächen in die gewünschte Form bearbeitet. Robots in the fully automated CNC machining centers now give the wheel surfaces their desired forms. 5. Die hochpräzise maschinelle Bearbeitung stellt sicher, dass jedes Rad absolut rund läuft. Weder Höhen- noch Seitenschlag sind vorhanden. 6. Anschließend wird auf CNC 5-Achs Fräsbearbeitungsmaschinen das fertige Design aus dem Vollmaterial herausgearbeitet und... Ebenso entsteht der Stern für ein mehrteiliges geschmiedetes Brabus Rad: Aus dem geschmiedeten Rohling wird die Oberflächenkontur auf CNC Bearbeitungszentren gedreht the wheel is furnished with the required drilled holes for bolthole circle, center hole and valve stem with a tolerance of just one one-hundreth of a millimeter. Den Abschluss bildet eine hochwertige Acrylklarpulverschicht. 11. Für die 3-teiligen Brabus Schmiederäder werden die Einzelteile vorgelagert. 12. Als Erstes erhalten die entsprechenden Felgenbetten ihr Ventil und die Aufnahme für die Reifendruckkontrollsensoren. The components of the three-piece BRABUS forged wheels are pre-stocked. The rim wells are fitted with valves and the holding fixtures for the sensors of the tire-pressure monitoring system. For long-lasting surface protection the wheels are painted using an elaborate multi-coating process. Danach wird noch einmal der genaue Rundlauf geprüft und schlussendlich die Nabenkappe eingebracht. Afterwards the wheel is once again checked for running absolutely true and finally the wheel-hub cap is installed.... and bolted together by machines with torque and rotation-angle monitoring. 15.
