Dezember 2012 International Sustainability Award 2013: Daimler Buses at the top "Busplaner" magazine presents the International Sustainability Award 2013 for the first time with awards in 14 categories Mercedes-Benz Citaro Euro VI wins in the inter-city category Setra ComfortClass 500 wins in the touring coach category Stuttgart/Munich This year, the trade magazine "busplaner" presented the "International busplaner Sustainability Award 2013" for the first time. Prizes were awarded for outstanding products and ideas in the bus and tourism industry. The award winners received their prizes in 14 categories from the Huss publishing house at the Kempinski Airport Hotel in Munich on 13 December. A top- class jury comprising representatives from industry, science and media judged the ideas and products according to three criteria: economy, ecology and social responsibility. Prizes were awarded to the Mercedes- Benz Citaro Ü in the inter- city category and the Setra ComfortClass 500 in the touring coach category.
Page 2 Mercedes-Benz Citaro Ü Winner in the inter-city category In the case of the Citaro it was the combination of economy and ecology which impressed the expert jury. The new Euro VI engines in conjunction with further measures provide for a considerable reduction in fuel and AdBlue consumption whilst maintaining the passenger capacity. At the same time the life cycle costs of fuel, maintenance and repairs have been optimised for operators and corrosion prevention has also been increased significantly. Maintenance costs for the Citaro Euro VI have been reduced by up to 20 percent, whilst fuel consumption has fallen by up to five percent and repair costs by two percent. For the customer, this is the equivalent of a total saving of up to six percent of the life cycle costs. In turn the reduction in fuel consumption reduces the CO2 emissions per bus by around 4.2 tonnes annually. This year the Mercedes- Benz Citaro was voted "Bus of the Year 2013" by the international Bus & Coach jury. Setra ComfortClass 500 Safe in the touring coach category With regard to the Setra ComfortClass 500, it was the overall concept of including all the Euro VI exhaust emissions regulations due to come into effect in 2018 and the comprehensive safety package which convinced the jury. The aerodynamic design of the vehicle is also particularly impressive: the whole exterior, from the design of the front to the flat blade wipers and the aerodynamic edge at the rear, has been optimised aerodynamically in order to achieve a Cd value of 0.33. As well as a considerable reduction in exhaust emissions, this new design in conjunction with the Mercedes- Benz BlueEfficiency Power engines achieves a saving in fuel consumption of up to five percent whilst at the same time consuming less AdBlue. Access to the vehicle is also more
convenient for example for the elderly thanks to wider steps with a lower height, good lighting and additional grab handles. Page 3 Record Run Buses confirm fuel saving of Euro VI engines During the "Record Run Buses 2012" realistic comparison drive, both vehicles impressively demonstrated the potential fuel economy. The Citaro Euro VI was even 8.5 percent better than the Citaro Euro V whilst the Euro VI Setra ComfortClass 500 was 8.2 percent better than the Euro V Setra ComfortClass 400.
