VORWORT PREFACE Die Frage, wie sich unsere individuelle Mobilität weiterentwickeln wird, ist nicht allein durch die Antriebsart zu beantworten. Der Motorenkongress in Baden-Baden hat dieses Jahr gezeigt, dass nicht nur Elektromotoren durch regenerativ erzeugten Strom weitgehend CO 2 -neutral betrieben werden können sondern auch Verbrennungsmotoren, wenn synthetische Kraftstoffe auf Wasserstoffbasis zum Einsatz kommen. Otto- und Dieselmotoren weiterzuentwickeln, sie effizienter und emissionsärmer zu machen, bleibt ein Schlüsselfaktor. Denn die hohe Energiedichte flüssiger Kraftstoffe wird wesentlich dazu beitragen, die heute gewohnte Langstreckentauglichkeit von Pkw und Nutzfahrzeugen auch morgen noch sicherzustellen. Der 4. Internationale Motorenkongress am 21. und 22. Februar 2017 in Baden-Baden soll deshalb neben der Verbrennungsmotorenentwicklung auch erneut das Gesamtsystem aus Verbrennungsmotor und Kraftstoffen behandeln in der gewohnten technischen Tiefe. In der Pkw-Motorenentwicklung möchten wir uns wieder mit den neuesten Erkenntnissen hinsichtlich Mechanik, Ladungswechsel, Verbrennung, Abgasnachbehandlung, NVH und Wärmemanagement befassen.mit der engen Verzahnung zwischen Pkw- und Nutzfahrzeug-Motorentwicklern möchten wir auch weiterhin innerhalb des mehrzügigen Kongresses den Erfahrungsaustausch fördern. Im Namen des Programmbeirats The question, in which direction our individual mobility is developing cannot just be answered by simply specifying the type of drive. The Engine Congress in Baden-Baden this year has shown that not only electric engines can largely be run CO 2 neutrally by relying on power from renewable resources, but also combustion engines when they are fuelled with synthetic hydrogen-based fuels. To further develop spark-ignition and Diesel engines as well as to make them more efficient and reduce their emissions remains a crucial factor since the high energy density of liquid fuels will contribute significantly to ensuring the suitability of commercial and passenger vehicles for today s long-distance traffic even tomorrow. The 4th International Engine Congress taking place on 21 and 22 February 2017 in Baden-Baden, Germany shall therefore once again view the overall system made up of combustion engine and fuel types, in addition to the combustion engine development itself in the same technical profoundness we have come to know. In light of the passenger vehicle engine development we would like to review the latest findings in regard to mechanical systems, charge cycles, combustion, exhaust gas treatment, NVH and thermal management.
