During the workshop the participants will be given an overview of the tax and accounting systems in China: - What are the different taxes applicable in China? - What are the specificities of the Chinese accounting standards? Mazars' experts will also train the participants on the main tax and accounting issues to be aware of when running a business in China and share their insights on the trends observed for tax reforms, for instance the pilot value-added tax reform. It is due to be rolled out to Beijing, Tianjin and Chongqing on July 1, 2012, and then progressively across mainland China. KPMG partners Lachlan Wolfers and Tracy Zhang are pleased to present a seminar which will examine the VAT reforms the key issues and implications for business, based on their practical experiences in Shanghai and internationally. The seminar will include discussion of: How the VAT reform pilot program operates What actions businesses need to take to deal with the reforms What are the opportunities the reforms present for businesses What are the major risk areas or issues that businesses need to be aware of What is the timing of the VAT reforms spreading across China The seminar will include a Q&A segment, where audience members get the opportunity to ask questions. About the speakers: Lachlan Wolfers is the Leader of KPMG s Centre of Excellence for Indirect Taxes in China, based in Shanghai. He was previously the leader of KPMG s Indirect Taxes group in Australia, where similar reforms was undertaken in the year 2000. Lachlan holds a Masters degree in Taxation Law (with First Class Honours), and Degrees in Law (also with Honours) and Economics, all from the University of Sydney. Lachlan has been consulting with the Chinese Government on the VAT reforms, and other tax issues such as Advance Rulings. Tracy Zhang, joined KPMG Beijing office in 1996. She is a Bachelor in Taxation and Master in Finance. Tracy is a PRC regulatory and tax expert on China investment related issues.
