Reference number 230/24/07 / ENVIROHORT - Environmental Horticulture The "Environmental Horticulture" Intensive Programme aims at integrating fundamentals of ecology, technology and economy of modern horticultural production chains, sustainable landscaping and forestry (integrated in the horticulture of the new EU Member States (MS), Bulgaria and Romania, and the associated country, Turkey). Emphasis is put on the role of efficient, sustainable, socially and environmentally responsible production to ensure fresh food supply security and quality at national, regional, and European level. University scientists from Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey and the international Master course Horticultural Science as well as experts in horticulture will teach, train and transfer their expertise to students participating in the Intensive Programme in fields such as horticultural plant production, cultivation practices, organic growing, efficient and sustainable use of resources, and quality management. This includes new technologies, technological and methodological approaches to cope with the rapidly developing quality demands, quality assessment and assurance (fruits, vegetables, ornamentals). Theory and practical work offer students deep insights into processes of horticultural production and marketing. Especially addressed will be the economic and ecological effects of horticulture for developed and currently fast-growing European regions, fitting the special needs of the countries involved. Reference number 230/23/07 / Rhizotechnology for enhancing resource efficiency in low-input farming The proposed IP aims at high-quality training of PhD and advances master students in designing rhizotechnologies for enhancing the resource acquisition efficiency of crops in low-input, and in particular, organic farming systems. A team of internationally recognised experts covering the highly multidisciplinary topic of R&D related to the development of rhizotechnologies and the underlying fundamentals of rhizosphere ecology will be involved. The course format is designed to foster active participation of the students in collaborative seminar work, group presentations of their findings as well as a poster session dedicated to their own PhD research results. The proposed IP is designed to apply a range of pedagogical and didactic approaches with emphasis on problem-based learning, stressing the multidisciplinarity of the topic in all components of the course. The course will be monitored and evaluated according to the standard procedures of the Euroleague for Life Sciences Universities (ELLS), and standard procedures and forms of this network will be also used for the selection of students. There are still missing short international programme dedicated to specific topics which are important and have a high actuality in the development of Higher Education and the EU. Especially the relationship between universities and their regions are not subjects as a learning objective in programmes as well as for the institutional understanding of the role for higher education and regional development. Particular attention is paid to the HEIs involvement in the regional growth partnerships. The main thematic area of the programme is the improvement of the relationship between HEIs and their Regions through the development and professionalization of HE-management. In general focus the programme on regional growth partnerships and agreements, the role of higher education institutions in regional policy both as an instrument of regional policy and as a regional stakeholder, relevant changes in higher education management by using attending classes as well as e-learning activities. Reference number 230/10/07 / SCIRES - Science and Research Intensive The primary aim of the IP project is to enable each PhD-student participating in this course to make substantial progress on the development of the doctoral dissertation. This is to be achieved by a broad range of teaching and learning methods including intensified coaching, moderated discussions, group work, and expert talks. Use of ICT-based instruments like learning management system, eportfolio and video conferencing is an integral part of subject teaching and practical training. Lecturers and supervisors from Danube University Krems (AT), Leeds Metropolitan University (UK) and University of Cyprus (CY) will jointly engage in teaching, training, and coaching. Enabling concerted face-to-face interactions of the experts from the three partners and intensifying their relations is a specific objective of the IP project. Reference number 230/1/07 / Business with a Cause Young Europeans Developing Sustainopreneurship On the Lisbon Council of March 2000 it was agreed that the European Union is to become the most competitive and dynamic knowledge-based society in the world, capable of sustainable economic growth with more and better jobs and greater social cohesion. If Europe wants to be economically successful, its policy has to stir competitiveness, job creation, innovation and growth. Entrepreneurship and social responsibility are keys to achieve those goals. Whereas Europe needs entrepreneurs with social responsibility, its education rarely succeeds to stimulate and foster this entrepreneurial spirit. Therefore this Intensive Program intends to bring together creative bachelor students from different disciplines, who have a feeling for sustainopreneurship, but who cannot develop these skills in their schooling. We offer them the opportunity to enhance that entrepreneurial spirit by training the skills and developing the essential characteristics for successful entrepreneurship within a European context, and by bring them into contact with fellow students having the same drive but coming from different cultural backgrounds. Entrepreneurs will participate actively in the IP, which focuses on practical student activity, coached by experienced staff. Reference number 230/16/07 / Training in advanced Remote Engineering Technologies (TARET) The main task of the project TARET is to provide three winter and summer schools to train students and teachers in several fields of "Remote engineering". The project is an integrated part of the 29298 - IC -1-2004-1- AT - ERASMUS EUC-1 project MARE and shall unit students and teachers from five or more European countries studying and working in the unique "Remote Engineering" study programme In Europe (the MARE curriculum) in several intensive on-site phases together. The use of virtual and remote laboratories and workplaces is one of the future directions for advanced teleworking/e working environments especially in engineering and science but also in all other fields of the society. This also would benefit people with special needs and people working from their home work. Also we enable students and teachers in TARET to work together in multinational groups, so as it will be normal in international development and working teams in remote engineering. The intensive programmes are a combination of theory and practical teaching, which is necessary for the technology enhances teaching mode of MARE and gives the students and teachers new perspectives in the topics being studied, using the scientific, didactic and practical experience of the scientists in the host universities and the unique lab possibilities of these institutions. The intensive programme is open for students from all over and outside Europe and requires at least a bachelor degree in engineering, science or informatics and sone prerequisites in remote engineering. Prejudicial statements such as science education in Northern and Western Europe pays more attention to the (European) environment than Eastern and Southern Europe countries do, will be investigated in order to learn from each other s specialisations as well as each other's common features and really create a European perspective on science education. It that way the IP put the emphasis on innovative forms of language teaching and language learning in order to enable future teachers to face the cultural and linguistical heterogeneity in their class-rooms (retrospectiv plurilingualism) and to show them ways of further language learning including pre-existing language knowledge (prospectiv plurlingualism). The concept of language (learning) awareness should allow to develop efficient learning strategies which contributes to the development of lifelong learning. The IP wants to point out new ways of Evaluation (Portfolio, language biography,) and make the participants reconsider their attitudes towards other languages/cultures and their own one. Reference number 230/5/07 / SCF-GSCE Supercritical Fluids - Green Solvents in Chemical Engineering Dieses IP dient der Verbreitung des wissenschaftlichen und technischen Wissens bezüglich der diversen Anwendungsmöglichkeiten überkritischer Fluide in Forschung und Industrie. Speziell die überkritischen Fluide gelten als "Green Solvents" und diese Vorteile beruhen auf der Produktion lösemittelfreier Produkte sowie der einfachen und effizienten Schließung des Lösemittelkreislaufes. Zudem ist bei der Verwendung von überkritischem Kohlendioxid, einem der weit verbreiteten Fluide, kein Gefährdungspotenzial für Mensch und Umwelt gegeben. Die Anwendungen reichen von der chemischen und biologischen Industrie, der Lebensmittel- und Pharmaindustrie bis hin zu neuen Applikationen in der Partikeltechnologie und Reinigungsverfahren für elektronische oder metallverarbeitende Industrie. Ziele dieses IP ist der Wissenstransfer, um zum einen die Applikationen überkritischer Fluide in der Industrie zu steigern und zum anderen, um Forscherinnen und Forscher auszubilden, die weitere Prozessentwicklungen betreiben können und diese auch einer großtechnischen Realisierung zuführen. Der zweiwöchige Vollzeitkurs, der diplomierten Studierenden zugänglich ist, beinhaltet Vorlesungen, praktische Anwendungen, Übungen inklusive Computersimulationen, Gruppenarbeiten, Industriebesuche, eine Abschlussarbeit in Gruppen und eine Abschlussprüfung. Für dieses IP werden 5 ECTS-Credits vergeben. Reference number 230/2/07 / Renewable Bioresources and Biorefineries The use of renewable biomaterials, bio-waste products and new technologies in bio-refineries are environmental friendly raw materials and processes for the production of biomaterials and bio-fuels and will serve as bio-economy based sustainable development. This development is dealing with environmental policy (Kyoto protocol) and the integral valorisation of bio-products for food and non-food purposes. Production of renewable biomaterials involves a multidisciplinary interaction between agriculture, forestry, chemistry, biotechnology, bio-processing and environmental sciences. Modules dealing with the renewable resources and bio-refineries are rarely available in MSc degree courses and Doctoral schools. The aim of this IP is to provide a total overview of the production chain from raw material, processing and end-products. The IP is academically recognized for 7 ECTS and is an integrated part of the study programme. The course involves next to taught courses, seminars, pilot plant experiments, projects, industrial visits and assessment and examination. The outcomes are the publication of a textbook, printed study material, e- learning, scientific publications and web site. An integrated multi-sectorial approach is an essential element for the development and implementation of effective prevention and intervention strategies. There is an urgent need for higher education and specialized training of multidisciplinary teams of health care professionals and scientists of different disciplines. The specific aims of the proposed IP are to organize and evaluate an intensive joint programme of study delivered in the form of a 2-week intensive course. A balanced mixture of state-of-the-art lectures, collaborative problem-based learning sessions, demonstrations of special cases, meet-the-professors sessions, and excursions to hospitals and laboratories will be implemented along with outcomes of the IP presented by the students. Target groups are highly motivated students of different disciplines including medicine, nutritional sciences, dietetics, sports sciences, psychology, and public health at the graduate and postgraduate level of the partner institutions. Target groups are postgraduate and doctoral students from the partner institutions in the fields of regional planning, geography, and natural sciences. Participants are expected to have basic knowledge of GIS. Participants will learn methods and techniques to assess regional potentials for solar energy, biomass production, wind energy and hydropower. Based on tools from spatial analysis and advanced modelling techniques participants will be introduced into physical and technical backgrounds, and then focus on sophisticated methods for the assessment of regional renewable energy potentials. The demand side of (primarily electrical) energy will be modelled based on demographic and regional economic indicators. Balancing regional demand and generation potentials is a prime target for sustainable regional potential. Auch die Struktur der europäischen Gerichtsbarkeit und die Rechtsprechung der europäischen Gerichtshöfe sollen dargestellt werden. Der zweite Teil ist, als Vertiefung, der Justiz und der Rechtsprechung der einzelnen Mitgliedstaaten der EU vorbehalten, wobei in kleinen Gruppen seminarartig von mehreren Lehrenden unterrichtet werden soll. Drei Workshops sollen den Teilnehmern die Möglichkeit eröffnen, unter Anleitung der Lehrenden Urteile aus den verschiedenen Rechtsordnungen unter Berücksichtigung der europäischen Gerichtsbarkeit zu erstellen: Dabei soll die Gesetzgebung der Union, insbesondere die Richtlinien, im Vordergrund stehen. Grundsätzlich soll in allen Lehrveranstaltungen die methodische Grundlage des europäischen Privatrechts im Vordergrund stehen: Beachtung der historischen Dimension, Beachtung der nationalen Rechtsordnungen unter Betonung der europäischen Dimension, Bedeutung von Rechtswissenschaft und Rechtsprechung. Welche Probleme fordern heute das Zusammenleben von Menschen unterschiedlicher Glaubensrichtungen in Europa heraus, und wie kann die islamische Religionspädagogik zu deren Bewältigung beitragen? Wie ist eine islamische Bildung, die zur Herausbildung und Etablierung der europäischen neben der islamischen Identität beitragen soll, zu konzipieren? Welche didaktischen Mittel sind für die Herausbildung eines neuen islamischen Bewusstseins notwendig, das den Islam als ethische und spirituelle Quelle auffasst, und nicht als Reservoir an Praktiken und Symbolen, auf die gelegentlich zurückgegriffen wird, um Grenzen zwischen dem Selbst und dem Anderen zu ziehen? Im Rahmen des IP sollen in Zusammenarbeit von Studierenden verschiedener Disziplinen und Glaubensrichtungen gemeinsame Antworten auf diese Fragen gesucht werden. Das Intensivprogramm NICLAS behandelt den Raum der Freiheit, der Sicherheit und des Rechts der EU, ein Kernbereich der Europäischen Integration, aus dem interdisziplinären Blickwinkel des Internationalen Verfassungsrechts (ICL). Reference number 230/19/07 / Der Beitrag der religiösen Erziehung zur europäischen Identität Der Beitrag religiöser Erziehung zur europäischen Identität hat zwei Perspektiven: a) Was trägt religiöse Erziehung inhaltlich zur europäischen Identität bei? b) Was trägt religiöse Erziehung zum Umgang mit Diversität, zum Abbau von Fremdenfeindlichkeit und Rassismus, zum Aufbau einer Kultur der gegenseitigen Anerkennung bei? c) Beide sind verbunden durch die selbstkritische Frage jeder religiösen Tradition nach ihrem Umgang mit innerer Diversität und wie weit religiöse Erziehung angesichts eines unverzichtbaren Wahrheitsanspruchs Raum für Selbstrelativierung gibt/geben kann. Das IP ist Teil der ReligionslehrerInnen-Ausbildung für Studierende im 2. Studienabschnitt und im Horizont forschenden, projektorientierten Lernens konzipiert. Die Vorarbeiten werden von Studierendengruppen der Partner geleistet, während des zweiwöchigen IP ist die Arbeit in national pluralen Kleingruppen vorgesehen. Für die Vorbereitung werden auch e-learning- Module (Einführung in den europäischen Diskussionsstand zum Thema) entwickelt, die nach dem IP in überarbeiteter Form allgemein zugänglich sind. Bemerkenswert ist die Implementierung der europäischen Dimension im Horizont konfessioneller Religionslehrerausbildung, der konfessions- und in weiterer Folge religionsübergreifende Ansatz, die Entwicklung und Erprobung eines didaktisch innovativen Ausbildungsmoduls, wie religiöse Erziehung Rassismus und Intoleranz verhindert oder fördert. Reference number 230/21/07 / URSULA: Intensive Programme: Gender Approaches to Finno-Ugric Languages and Cultures Ziel des Intensivprogramms URSULA (Gender Approaches to Finno-Ugric Languages and Cultures) ist, die Gender-Thematik integrativ und interdisziplinär in die Lehrtätigkeit der Partnerinstitute einzubauen, bei den Studierenden Fähigkeiten zur selbständigen wissenschaftlichen Arbeit und Fachkommunikation zu entwickeln. Dabei wird auf die Thematik des gesamten Fachbereiches geachtet (mit besonderer Berücksichtigung der kleinen und Minderheitssprachen und Kulturen). Zielgruppen sind vor allem die Studierenden der Finno-Ugristik/Hungarologie, aber auch HochschullehrerInnen, ForscherInnen und andere InteressentInnen. Am IP werden je 1-3 Lehrperson und 3-5 Studierende aus jedem Partnerinstitut teilnehmen; die offenen Foren und die elektronisch publizierten Ergebnisse werden allen InteressentInnen zugänglich sein. Das 15tägige Intensivprogramm besteht aus Impulsreferaten, Workshops und offenen Foren; bei früheren IP's von denselben Partnerinstituten hat sich diese Arbeitsform als zweckmäßig und effektiv erwiesen. Zusammen mit den neuen Problemstellungen werden neue didaktische Ansätze erstrebt: ein großer Teil des Programms wird in einer interaktiven Form durchgeführt, und die Studierenden werden in alle Arbeitsphasen miteinbezogen, von der Vorbereitung bis zur Publikation der Ergebnisse. Die Ergebnisse des IP's Lehrmaterialien, Linksammlungen und Readers, studentische Arbeiten werden elektronisch publiziert, und die von den Studierenden erbrachten Leistungen werden im Rahmen ihrer finnougristischen/hungarologischen Studien anerkannt. Reference number 230/7/07 / SUSTMONT: Training on approaches to sustainable development in mountain areas under global change IP SUSTMONT bietet im Kontext des Globalen Klimawandels zur Frage der nachhaltigen Entwicklung des Europäischen Gebirgslebensraumes eine vertiefende Ausbildung in Umweltanalyse, Umweltmodelling, Umweltmonitoring und Stakeholder Konsultation. Aufbauend auf Forschungsergebnissen zu den Globalen Umweltveränderungen und zur Nachhaltigen Entwicklung in den Gebirgsregionen Europas (EU-Projekte ECOMONT, SUSTALP, GLORIA,CARBOMONT, DIAMONT), werden im ersten Teil des IP anhand von konkreten Fallbeispielen neueste Methoden der Modellierung auf der Landschaftsebene, der Fernerkundung und der Visualisierung von Landnutzungsänderungen im GIS dargestellt. Im Rahmen der drei Workshops werden unter Einsatz modernster Technologien (Planspiele, Modellierungs- und Visualisierungsverfahren) Monitoringkonzepte, Szenarien und Umsetzungsstrategien entwickelt und mit Experten und Entscheidungsträgern in Form von Stakeholder Konsultationen eingehend diskutiert. Dabei werden Fragen wie Produktion und Einsatz erneuerbarer Energie im Gebirge, Landnutzung und Kohlenstoffspeicherung und nachhaltige Nutzung der Wasserressourcen vertiefend behandelt. Problemfälle und Erfolgsstories zur Nachhaltigen Entwicklung werden in Form von Exkursionen und Feldarbeiten am praktischen Beispiel studiert. Der Kurs findet längs eines ökologischen Transektes vom Ebro Tal bis in die Spanischen Pyrenäen am Instituto Pirenaico de Ecologia statt. Der IP Kurs richtet sich an Studierende des zweiten Studienabschnittes (Master-, Doktorat-Level) der Studienrichtungen Biologie, Ökologie, Land- und Forstwirtschaft, Landschaftsplanung und Umwelttechnik.
