Polyamide Shade weakening Dyeings that have turned out too deep can be weakened by treating in a boiling alkaline bath containing Ciba TIEGAL W. 2 % TIEGAL W ph 810 with soda ash 0 min at the boil Where necessary, the treatment is repeated. Dyeing temperature With polyamide materials, the maximum dyeing temperature depends on type of fiber, form of goods and dyeing equipment: 6 textured up to 96 C / 20 F 66 textured up to 108 C / 226 F 6 untextured up to 120 C / 28 F 66 untextured up to 120 C / 28 F

Moth and beetle proofing in the dyebath Ciba MITI FF h.c. and Ciba MITI FF liq. give wool durable protection against attack by clothes moth, fur and carpet beetle larvae. The effects are fast to washing and light. Both products can be applied in the dyebath together with the dyes, provided not more than the indicated amount of Ciba ALBEGAL A is used. Amount required 1 1. % MITI FF h.c. or 2. % MITI FF liq. depending on specification (IWS)
Finishing/souring off On completion of dyeing, the goods should be soured off. This is best done by adding 12% formic acid 8% to the final rinse bath and has the effect of improving the handle of the wool preventing the growth of microorganisms in goods left in the wet state for prolonged periods. Correcting faulty dyeings Shade weakening Dyeings that have turned out too deep or unlevel can be weakened and leveled in a fresh bath. 2 % TIEGAL W 10 % Glauber s salt anhyd. ph 67 with acetic acid 80% 060 min at 998 C/20208 F, rinse To remove TIEGAL W residues and improve rubbing fastness before redyeing, the goods should be treated with 2 % IRGASOL DAM 10 min at 00 C/8610 F, rinse Redye in a fresh bath. Stripping A reduction treatment with a hydrosulfite preparation in a bath set with formic acid can be carried out, but the result is dependent on the individual dyes. Preliminary trials are recommended. otes Leveling On material with physical differences of affinity, good fiber and surface levelness can be obtained by using leveling agent Ciba ALBEGAL A, which has affinity for the dye. Excessive amounts can markedly retard dye uptake. For good reproducibility, the amount added should always be the same. De-aerating/wetting out Tightly packed goods in particular are rapidly de-aerated and wetted out if 0. g/l Ciba ALBEGAL FFA or CIBAFLOW CIR is added to the dyebath first.
Explanatory notes on the pattern section Patterns Wool The patterns shown are wool serge dyed by the recommended method at a 20:1 liquor ratio. Polyamide The patterns shown are polyamide 66 textured tricot fabric dyed at a 20:1 liquor ratio. Fastness properties The fastness properties were tested in accordance with ISO 10 and international standards. The light fastness ratings were determined at the standard depths indicated. All other fastness properties were assessed on wool and polyamide (without aftertreatment) at 1/1 standard depth of light navy (/L). The letters over the colums in the fastness tables denote the following: = change in shade = staining of wool = staining of polyamide 6.6 CV = staining of viscose = staining of cotton
