2 Wir freuen uns, die Werke von Brunhilde Groult (*1986) zum ersten Mal in Berlin zu präsentieren. Ihre Arbeiten entstehen durch Überlagerung von Schichten, die aufgetragen und abgenommen werden und so Erzählungsfragmente unterschiedlicher Zeiten, Rituale und Kulturen zu einer eigenen Mythologie zusammenführt. Das zentrale Werk der Ausstellung ist die Skulptur =1 (2012), ein aus Holzbögen bestehender Globus, dessen geschnitzte Seiten ornamentale und figurative Elemente zeigt. Mit ihrer Schnitztechnik bezieht sich die Künstlerin auf die vier Aspekte der schöpferischen Welt - Flora, Fauna, Mineralien und der Mensch, die gleichwertig miteinander verbunden sind. Das Format des Werkes beschreibt den Kreislauf des Lebens und dass der Verlauf der Zeit nicht linear sondern zirkular zu sehen ist. Die an der Stirnwand hängende kreisrunde Holzarbeit Ohne Titel (2012) zeigt eine abstraktere Annäherung der Künstlerin an das organische Material, das von sich aus schon eine eigene Sprache mitbringt. In den Kreis ist ein Oktogon mit unterschiedlichen, geschnitzten Feldern eingeschrieben. Während die äußeren Ebenen mit abstrakt wirkenden Ornamenten und Formen versehen sind, bleibt das Zentrum der Arbeit leer. Ähnlich ihrer Schnitztechnik bearbeitet Groult auch die Motive der Fotografien und lässt so neue Strukturen und Räume entstehen. Hier verwendet sie Bilder einer Performance, die sie 2012 in Bordeaux gemeinsam mit Bonana van Mil realisiert hat und entwickelt sie weiter. Die Gewänder im zweiten Raum der Galerie führen den Arbeitsprozess der Künstlerin fort, den Menschen konkreter in den Mittelpunkt zu stellen. Die bereits verwendeten Gewänder dienen hier als Display für stellvertretende Figuren der erwähnten Welten. Ähnlich der kreisrunden Holzarbeit gibt es hier ein leeres Zentrum im Brustbereich, das den Blick in das Ungewisse frei gibt. Auch das Oktogon findet sich wieder in den geschnitzten Holztafeln, die eine Mischung aus menschlichen Portraits und sich transformierenden Wesen darstellt und die verschiedenen Schichten des menschlichen Bewusstseins zeigt. Während der Eröffnung findet eine Performance mit Yohanna B., Habima Fuchs, Ingy Ganga Volando, Pierre Friquet und Felix Heimbächer statt.

3 We are delighted to present works by Brunhilde Groult (*1986) for the first time in Berlin. Her pieces are created by overlapping layers that are applied and removed, thus combining narrative fragments from different times, rituals and cultures to a mythology of its own. The central work of the exhibition is the sculpture =1 (2012), a globe consisting of wooden arcs whose carved sides reveal ornamental and figurative elements. With her carving technique, the artist makes reference to the four aspects of the creative world flora, fauna, minerals and humans, which are all equally interconnected. The format of the work describes the cycle of life and suggests that the course of time is to be regarded as circular instead of linear. The round wooden work Ohne Titel (2012) hanging on the front wall shows the artist s abstract approach to the organic material that already brings its own language with it. An octagon with differently carved fields is inscribed in the circle. While abstract ornaments and forms are applied to the outer levels, the centre remains empty. Similar to her carving technique, Groult works on photographic motifs to create new structures and spaces. In this case, pictures of a performance she realised together with Marion Benoit and Bonana van Mil in Saint Vincent de Tyrosse in 2012 and that she now further develops. The garments in the second gallery space continue the artist s working process of focusing more concretely on the human. Here, the used garments serve to display figures representing the worlds mentioned above. As with the round wooden works, there is an empty centre in the area of the chest that grants a view to uncertainty. The octagon can be found again in the carved wooden panels that depict a mixture of human portraits and beings in transformation and reveal the various layers of human consciousness. During the opening, a performance by Yohanna B., Habima Fuchs, Ingy Ganga Volando, Pierre Friquet and Felix Heimbächer will take place.
