5 1.2 Safey Precauions The Sarocheck mini inegriy eser complies wih he direcives and sandards for elecrical equipmen, elecromagneic compaibiliy, and he sipulaed safey requiremens. Improper use or handling, however, can resul in damage and/or injury. The equipmen may only be operaed by rained personnel. Operaors mus read hese insallaion insrucions, paricularly he safey informaion, and mus be familiar wih he operaion of he equipmen. The operaor is required o supplemen hese safey precauions as appropriae. The operaing personnel mus be provided wih he appropriae raining. Before working wih he Sarocheck mini inegriy eser, i is imperaive ha you read he chaper on Safey Insrucions in he enclosed operaing insrucions! 1.3 Proper Use The Sarocheck mini inegriy eser is a ligh-weigh and ransporable uni for esing he inegriy of membrane filer carridges. The uni has been consruced in accordance wih he European Direcives as well as inernaional regulaions and sandards for operaion of elecrical equipmen, elecromagneic compaibiliy and applicable safey requiremens. Improper use or handling, however, can resul in damage and/or injury. Follow he insrucions below o ensure proper insallaion and operaion of your Sarocheck mini: 1. Sarocheck mini is used o suppor aciviies involved wih running diffusion ess. A he end of a diffusion es, Sarocheck mini indicaes Tes passed or Tes failed. 2. Sarocheck mini precisely measures he pressure o allow accurae deerminaion of he diffusion on a filer in ml/min. 3. This operaing manual was developed according o regulaions and legal guidelines currenly available a he ime. I is srucured so ha i can be implemened and used by rained personnel. 6 1.4 Funcionaliy of Sarocheck mini Sarocheck mini faciliaes he work involved wih carrying ou diffusion ess. By precisely measuring he pressure, i allows accurae deerminaion of he diffusion on a filer in ml/min. A he end of a diffusion es, Sarocheck mini indicaes Tes passed or Tes failed. Sarocheck mini will sore in memory every es ha you carry ou. Laer, i can be indicaed on he display, prined ou on a buil-in priner or archived on an inerfaced PC for monioring purposes. Wih Sarocheck mini, you can es every kind of filer carridge in every possible housing combinaion. For his purpose, he uni is equipped wih many feaures for enering and soring your own filer daa. Sarocheck mini is a fully auomaed inegriy eser. I regulaes he pressure seing hrough buil-in valves. 8 2. General Informaion Basic Funcions of Sarocheck mini 2.1 Measuring Principle During he inegriy ess, Sarocheck mini akes very precise pressure measuremens. Tha way, he inegriy eser deermines he pressure drop aking place during he es period. I can calculae he diffusion from he pressure drop and he ne volume in he housing. Filer housing under pressure Filer housing under pressure Volume V1 Volume V1 Pressure P1 Pressure P1 open Ambien pressure P0 Gas volume escaping: P0*V0 Afer he filer carridges have been weed sufficienly (see operaing insrucions for he respecive filer carridge), connec he housing o he pressure supply P1. During he sabilizaion ime, he inegriy eser pressurizes he housing a a defined pressure. A he end of he sabilizaion ime, close he upsream valve and block he pressurized filer volume. The filer housing wih he upsream volume V1 is now pressurized a pressure P1 (Figure 1). The air ha has escaped on he downsream side of he filer by diffusion now causes a pressure drop in he filer housing. By he end of he es, he pressure in he filer housing has dropped o pressure P2. The values on pressure drop, es ime and ne volume can be used o calculae he diffusion. Diffusion D is calculaed as follows: D * * P0 / VN = P = P1 - P2 P = Pressure drop during measuring ime D = Gas diffusion in ml/min = Tes ime in min P0 = 1000 mbar or baromeric pressure in mbar depending on seing VN = Upsream volume of he sysem in ml. 8 Basic Funcions of Sarocheck mini

9 However, a low proporion of he ambien pressure or he deviaion in ambien pressure from he assumed baromeric pressure (1,000 mbar) is included in he equaion. Therefore, i can be enered in he uni (via PC sofware). The ambien emperaure influences he pressure measuremen and he diffusion. Observe he echnical specificaions of he filer carridges o be esed! During he diffusion es, he ambien emperaure mus be kep consan. Oherwise, he pressure measuremen and diffusion values may be falsified. Immediaely afer seam serilisaion of he filer, no diffusion es may be performed. Oherwise, he pressure measuremen and diffusion values may be falsified. The filer housing mus be cooled down. Avoid performing ess a exreme emperaures! I is essenial o observe he specificaions of he carridges. The upsream pressure from he compressed air supply mus be sable and sufficienly high. Oherwise, he adaping imes may be unnecessarily prolonged and error messages generaed. When calculaing he diffusion from he pressure drop, Sarocheck mini assumes ha he emperaure is consan a 20 C and he amospheric pressure is also consan. The amospheric pressure can be enered ino he uni as a parameer via he SaroConrol mini Sofware. As delivery saus (facory seings) he auomaic vening funcion is acivaed. When his funcion is deacivaed by he user, i is eminenly imporan o manually ven he pressurized filer housing before opening i. Basic Funcions of Sarocheck mini 9

10 2.2 Descripion of he Uni Display and Keypad Display The display has 4 lines: The upper line usually indicaes he meaning of he menu indicaed. The lower line usually conains a riangular black arrow ha indicaes which keys can be pressed. START TEST? forward 0 LM L M Sar Sop * # 9 Example: Do you wan o sar he filer inegriy es? Press Sar y Coninue wih he up arrow : Forward he down arrow: Back Keypad Overlay The keypad overlay has 16 keys ha are equipped wih a clear acion poin. The special keys have he following funcions: Forward, nex sep Back, previous sep Sar a funcion End or cancel a funcion * and # are special funcions They are indicaed in he display if required : Enering numbers Connecions On/Off Key The ON and OFF key is locaed on he fron of he uni. Press i once o swich he uni on, wice o swich i off. Afer powerup, he uni akes a few seconds unil he display appears. The uni swiches iself off auomaically when he baery saus ges low. The informaion sored a his ime is preserved. Compressed air connecion All compressed air lines mus be seaed properly and securely on he respecive device connecions. They should never loosen inadverenly. Any inadveren loosening of he connecions can cause a high risk of injury! Connecions may only be made in compliance wih he echnical specificaions concerning pressure (see Chaper 1.5, Technical Specificaions )! Connec he compressed air connecion o he sysem s compressed air supply. The compressed air connecion on he back panel of he uni is labelled In. Filer connecion Using a pressure hose, connec he filer o be esed o his plug-in nipple. 10 Basic Funcions of Sarocheck mini

11 The filer connecion on he back panel of he uni is labelled Ou. Power supply connecion (Power) Connecing he uni direcly o 220V can cause desrucion and endanger he user! The connecion o he recharger power supply included wih he uni is locaed on he back panel. Make sure o never use any oher AC adaper wih a higher or lower volage. y When he recharger power supply is working, he loading LED on he fron panel flashes green. Daa inerface (USB) A USB daa inerface is locaed on he housing back panel. Use his connecion o ransfer measuring daa o a PC. y On his PC, you can use he SaroConrol mini program o save measuring daa or prin hem ou on a priner pored o his PC. For furher informaion, refer o Chaper 1.5, Technical Specificaions. Exernal priner por (priner) As an alernaive o he buil-in srip priner, he measuring daa can be prined ou on an exernal priner conneced o his por. Vening por The vening por mus be open and funcional. Oherwise, he filer housing will no be properly vened and would be pressurized afer a filer inegriy es! Afer a filer inegriy es, he sysem is vened a his por. As delivery saus (facory seings) he auomaic vening funcion is acivaed. When his funcion is deacivaed by he user, i is eminenly imporan o manually ven he pressurized filer housing before opening i Housing The splash waer-proof housing proecs he uni agains moisure, humidiy and damage when handled improperly. The high-qualiy elecronic uni mus be permanenly proeced agains long-erm effecs of moisure and mechanical shock - Danger of Desrucion! The uni should be always aligned o preven any fluids from peneraing he priner or he elecrical connecions on he back panel. For furher informaion, refer o Chaper 1.5, Technical Specificaions Special Technical Feaures To save elecriciy, Sarocheck mini is equipped wih a power managemen ha can swich off unused componens on he uni. This is a good opion during long baery operaion. If he uni is swiched on and no in use for around 5 minues, i swiches iself off. The auomaic shuoff is deacivaed during es operaion and calibraion Calibraion Inervals The manufacurer recommends mainaining a calibraion inerval of 1 year a mos. The calibraion mus be performed using a reference insrumen wih an a leas ±1 mbar accuracy. 12 2.3 Funcions Menu Guidance Overview and The inerconnecions of he individual funcions feaured on Sarocheck mini are General Funcion Char illusraed in he following graphic. The main funcions are presened in heir display windows; he funcions are accessed by moving forward and back using he arrow keys. The user moves o he desired funcion using he indicaed keys: swich-on START TEST? forward LM SERVICE? forward LM TEST RESULTS? forward LM SELF TEST? forward LM PRINT DATA? forward LM VENT? forward LM TEST PROGRAMS? forward LM CLEAN? forward LM SET CLOCK? forward LM The availabiliy of each of he main funcions can be configured in he configuraion secion of he Service Menu. Tha means ha he selecion of he main funcions is independen of he individual equipmen seings. 13 2.3.3 Main Funcions The block of main funcions conains all he funcions necessary for running he filer inegriy es and managing he es resuls: START TEST? forward LM Wih he START TEST funcion, you can es up o 19 differenly configured filer filer housing combinaions. Use his funcion o selec your filer sysem and run he es. TEST RESULTS? forward LM Every es resul is sored o memory. Use he RESULTS funcion o selec any es from he las 100 filer inegriy es runs and display he relaed daa. PRINT DATA? forward LM Wih his funcion, sored daa can be prined ou on he buil-in priner or on an exernal priner. Prin ou sored daa on he buil-in priner or an exernal priner. TEST PROGRAMS? forward LM The PROGRAM TEST funcion is used o ener he configuraion daa of a new filer sysem or o change previously enered daa. You can sore up o 19 differen filer sysems. Ener he configuraion daa of a new filer sysem, or change previously enered daa. SET CLOCK? forward LM This menu can be blocked or released in he Service Menu. The SET CLOCK funcion is used o oggle he buil-in clock beween summer and winer ime. This menu can be blocked or released in he Service Menu. Toggle he buil-in clock beween summer and winer ime. CLEAN? forward LM Use his funcion o flush he air hose and solenoid valve wih waer or a cleaning liquid. Acivae he cleaning funcion. VENT? forward LM Wih he RELEASE PRESSURE funcion, he pressure in he filer housing is released hrough he uni. Release he pressure in he filer housing. SELF TEST? forward LM Use he SELF-TEST funcion o check and display he mos imporan componens on Sarocheck mini. Run a self es on Sarocheck mini. SERVICE? forward LM Use he SERVICE funcion o oggle from he main funcions o he service funcions. These are no necessary for he rouine use of Sarocheck mini. Access o he Service Menu is only possible by enering a user code. Unlike he oher menus, he Service Menus are no accessed wih he Sar key bu wih he # key. 14 2.3.4 Selecing Oher Funcions Afer swiching, Sarocheck mini always jumps o he START TEST? funcion. 15 2.4 Selecion of Funcions Generaing Tes Programs Parameer Limis Sarocheck mini can generae and save 19 differen es programs for esing 19 differen filer - housing combinaions. To do so, ener he daa for your sysem ino he eser: Parameer Limis Pos. You mus deermine he maximum permissible diffusion for a filer carridge and ener i ino he es program. Bear in mind ha some filer carridge manufacurers always sae he diffusion for 10 filer elemens. If your filer carridges are longer, you mus muliply his diffusion as follows: Diffusion = max. permissible diffusion per 10 elemen * number of 10 elemens One 20 filer carridge convers as follows: Diffusion = max. diffusion per 10 elemen * 2 One 30 filer carridge Diffusion = max. diffusion per 10 elemen * 3 If he filer housing conains differen filer carridges, he enire diffusion mus be compued. This number is hen divided by he number of filer carridges o obain he mean diffusion per filer carridge: This is he value ha can be enered. Diffusion per filer carridge = oal diffusion of all filer carridges / number of filer carridges Calculaing he ne volume The ne volume includes he enire upsream volume on he unfilrae side (from he shu-off valve of he filer inle hrough he connecion pipe o he filer carridge). I can be approximaely calculaed using he following formula: Ne volume = Housing volume + vol. of connecion pipe + vol. of measuremen line vol. of all filer carridges As needed on reques, your Sarorius service echnician can measure he ne volume for you. 16 2.4.2 Programming The uni can be programmed manually or by using Sofware SaroConrol mini Version 2 ff. Programming wih SaroConrol mini is much easier in erms of enering he ype and serial number and is herefore recommended. This menu iem is available depending on he device configuraion. Firs, sar as described in Chaper 2.3.4, Selecing Oher Funcions. When connecing he filer housing, make sure ha no waer can flow ino Sarocheck mini. Of course, he pressure applied o expel he waer wih compressed air may no be higher han he es pressure or he bubble-poin pressure.
