2 Role of the Swiss Federal Office of Energy SFOE (1) The SFOE is the competence center for issues relating to energy supply and energy use at the Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (DETEC). It Creates the prerequisites for a sufficient, crisis-proof, broadbased, economic and sustainable energy supply. Ensures the maintenance of high safety standards in the production, transport and utilization of energy. Creates the necessary conditions for efficient electricity and gas markets and an adapted infrastructure. Actively promotes efficient energy use, an increase in the share of renewable energy and a reduction in CO 2 emissions. Promotes and coordinates national energy research and supports the development of new markets for sustainable energy use and supply. 2

12 Summary SFOE could provide support to R&D and P&D R&D budgets decreasing selection criteria (topics, quality) more important be early and always contact programme manager P&D budget stable opportunity for SCCER s 2 nd phase: well coordinated and large scale demos are still rare Increasing role of SFOE to coordinate and support national and international collaboration Make use of the unique SCCER network to propose high quality and coordinated P&D but still important as well as R&D projects for an efficient use of resources! 12
