5 Vorwort / Foreword Frauen stellen im Durchschnitt weltweit 67% der Global Health Workforce dar, aber nur 25% von ihnen sind in Führungspositionen vertreten. Bei den Vereinten Nationen sind nur 23% der Führungskräfte Frauen und bei den globalen Gesundheitsinitiativen sind nur 17 von 74 Führungskräften weiblich. Über die Finanzierung und Ressourcenverteilung in der globalen Gesundheit - immerhin ein Budget von bis zu 92,1 Billionen Dollar - entscheiden zu 70% Männer. 1 Bei den globalen öffentlich-privaten Partnerschaften im Bereich Gesundheit sind Frauen im Vorstand ebenfalls unterrepräsentiert. 2 Und auf den vielen Diskussionspanels zur globalen Gesundheit sind vorwiegend Männer vertreten. Um Frauen, die in Global Health tätig sind, mehr Sichtbarkeit zu geben, wurde 2014 von Ilona Kickbusch am Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, Genf eine Twitter Kampagne gestartet und Namensvorschläge von Frauen gesammelt. Die Liste der 100 Women Leaders in Global Health konnte im Dezember 2014 vorgelegt werden. 3 Nach einer Veröffentlichung in The Lancet folgten weitere Nominierungen, so dass 2015 eine Liste von 300 Frauen 4 erstellt wurde. In diesem Zeitraum wurde die Initiative Women in Global Health - A Movement for Gender Equality in Global Women represent on average 67% of the global health workforce, but only 25% are in leadership positions In the United Nations System only 23% of top leaders are women, and in global health initiatives only 17 out of 74 are women 70% of $92.1 billion in global health funding is being directed by men 1 In Global Private Public Partnerships for Health women are underrepresented in the governing bodies 2 On the numerous discussion panels on global health there are primarily men In order to showcase women s leadership in global health, Ilona Kickbusch from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, Geneva launched a Twitter campaign to collect nominations of women working in the forefront of global health around the world. The list of 100 Women Leaders in Global Health was published in December After a commentary in The Lancet further nominations followed and in 2015, the 300 Women Leaders in Global Health 4 list was compiled and published. 6 Health Leadership 5 von Dr. Roopa Dhatt, Dr. Desiree Lichtenstein, Caitlin Jackson and Kristina Ronsin gegründet, um Frauen in Führungspositionen in der globalen Gesundheit zu unterstützen und auf diese Weise zur Verbesserung der Gesundheit weltweit beizutragen. Es wurde vorgeschlagen, dass nun regionale und nationale Listen erstellt werden sollten, um eine bessere Vernetzung vor Ort zu gewährleisten. Diese Idee haben wir - Ilona Kickbusch und Sabine Ludwig - aufgegriffen und im Juli 2017 in Berlin zu einem Treffen eingeladen, um die Gründung einer Initiative Women in Global Health Germany WGH-GER zu beraten. Der Zeitpunkt schien richtig - denn Deutschland spielt eine immer bedeutendere Rolle in der globalen Gesundheit und es gilt sicherzustellen, dass Frauen zu dieser Entwicklung entscheidend beitragen können. Eine Gruppe von Frauen in Berlin, die im Bereich der globalen Gesundheit tätig sind, wurde etabliert. Es wurde beschlossen, als erstes Namensvorschläge für eine Liste zu sammeln, die die Basis für ein Netzwerk von Frauen in Global Health in Deutschland sein kann. Sie umfasst Frauen aus Deutschland, die international in Global Health tätig sind beziehungsweise Frauen, die in der globalen Gesundheit in Deutschland tätig sind und mindestens über eine zweijährige Berufserfahrung in diesem Bereich verfügen. Roopa Dhatt stand uns beratend zur Seite und WGH-GER ist nun das erste nationale pilot chapter der internationalen Initiative. the movement and organization Women in Global Health, which is a movement for gender equality in global health leadership 5 and supports women in global health with the end of goal of achieving improved and more sustainable health worldwide. Recognizing the momentum, and the need to highlight the diversity of women working in global health, it was then suggested to establish regional and national lists to create networks on the regional and national level. We - Ilona Kickbusch and Sabine Ludwig have taken forward this idea and launched a meeting in Berlin in July 2017 to discuss on the founding of a chapter Women in Global Health Germany - WGH-GER. As Germany is taking on a new leadership role in global health, it seemed to be optimal timing to start this initiative and to ensure that women not only significantly contribute to this development, but are also equal leaders. Therefore, a group of women working in the field of global health in Berlin was established with the support and advice of Roopa Dhatt. We are excited to announce that WGH-GER is now the first national pilot chapter of the international movement! It was decided that the first order of business for the new chapter would be the collection of nominations and the compilation of a list of German women working in global health in Germany, and internationally, and women working in global health in Germany. Women on the list are required to have a minimum of two years work experience in this field. It is anticipated that the list will be used as the basis for a national network of women in global health in Germany

7 Die Liste soll dazu beitragen, diesen Frauen mehr Sichtbarkeit zu geben, so dass sie sich auch gegenseitig unterstützen können. Die Standardantwort es gibt keine Frauen gilt jetzt nicht mehr bei Stellenbesetzungen, in Entscheidungsgremien, Redebeiträgen auf Panels, Tagungen und Foren. Wir freuen uns, dass wir über 100 Nominierungen in dieser Broschüre vorstellen können. Die Liste ist alphabetisch geordnet und stellt kein Ranking dar. Es sind unter anderem Frauen aus dem akademischen Bereich, aus Wissenschaftszentren, Stiftungen, Nichtregierungsorganisationen, internationalen Organisationen, Ministerien und aus dem Privatsektor vertreten. Wir danken den Sponsoren und Unterstützern, die die Publikation dieser Liste sowie den Launch Event in Berlin ermöglicht haben, hoffen, auf diese Weise zu mehr Gender Equality im Bereich globale Gesundheit beitragen zu können und freuen uns auf die gemeinsamen Projekte. (mult) Ilona Kickbusch is the Director of the Global Health Centre at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva. She has contributed significantly to innovations for global health. She advises countries and organisations on their global health strategies and has been a member of the independent Ebola interim assessment panel of WHO and the United Nations SecretaryGeneral s Global Health Crises Task Force. Presently she is a senior advisor to the Director General of WHO. She co-moderated the health crisis simulation at the G20 health ministers meeting. She chairs the international advisory board that advises on the update of the German Global Health Strategy and chairs the Council of the World Health Summit. She launched #WGH 100, one of the starting shots for greater gender equality in global health. 2016, She has been awarded the Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany (Bundesverdienstkreuz). Professor Dr. Dr. h.c. (mult) Ilona Kickbusch ist Direktorin des Zentrums für Globale Gesundheit im Genfer Hochschulinstitut für internationale Studien. Sie hat maßgeblich zu Innovationen in der globalen Gesundheit beigetragen. 9 Dr. Sabine Ludwig Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin / Research Associate Robert Koch-Institut Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin ludwigs@rki.de sabine.ludwig@charite.de Dr. Sabine Ludwig ist Volkswirtin (MSc; deutsch-französischer Studienabschluss) und Sinologin (MA). Sie hat in Berlin, Shanghai, Paris, Frankfurt und Peking studiert. Nach ihrem Studium arbeitete sie bei der Europäischen Kommission in Brüssel und Peking und bei UNIDO in einem Projekt im Gesundheitssektor. Nach ihrem sechsjährigen Aufenthalt in China arbeitete sie als wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin an der Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin. Zuerst im Masterstudiengang International Health, danach in der Projektsteuerung für den Modellstudiengang Medizin mit der Aufgabe der Integration von Gender und Diversity Mainstreaming. Im Anschluss daran war sie im Bereich Qualitätssicherung und Evaluation in Studium und Lehre tätig. Im Moment arbeitet sie am Robert Koch-Institut zur Erstellung des Frauengesundheitsberichts. Dr. Sabine Ludwig hat an der Charité zum Thema Gender Medizin, Gender Equality, Frauengesundheit und Curriculumsentwicklung promoviert. Dr. Sabine Ludwig is an economist (MSc; German-French degree) and sinologist (Chinese Studies MA) and has studied in Paris, Shanghai, Beijing, Berlin and Frankfurt. She has worked at the European Commission in Brussels and Beijing, and with UNIDO in a project in the health sector. After six years in China, she started to work at Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin. Her first assignment was as research associate within the Masterprogramme International Health. She then joined the curriculum development team for the new modular medical curriculum at Charité Berlin, being in charge of integrating gender and diversity perspectives into the new programme. After this, she worked in the quality management and evaluation unit of the department of medical education at Charité. Currently she works at the Robert Koch-Institute in Berlin in the team of the National Women s Health Report. She has obtained her doctoral degree at Charité in the field of Gender medicine, Women s Health, Gender Equality and Curriculum Development. 9

Sie hat einen Master in Gesundheitswesen (MPH) sowie einen Bachelor für die Wissenschaft in der Pflege (BSN) an der amerikanischen Universität in Beirut absolviert. Sie verfügt über umfangreiche Erfahrungen auf dem Gebiet der Evidenz- Synthese, der Wissensübersetzung, der evidenzbasierten Politikgestaltung und der Akkreditierung. Ihre Forschungsaktivitäten und ihr Interesse konzentrieren sich auf Gesundheitssysteme und -politik, die evidenzbasierte Politik, Wissensübersetzung, Qualitätsverbesserung, Humanressourcen für Gesundheit, Akkreditierung, Datenvisualisierung, Kinderschutz, die Mütter- und Kindergesundheit sowie gesundes Altern. Clara Abou Samra is an Evidence Lead Specialist at the Knowledge to Policy (K2P) Center at the American University of Beirut. She holds a Master s in Public Health (MPH) from the American University of Beirut and a Bachelors of Sciences in Nursing (BSN) from the School of Nursing at the American University of Beirut. She has extensive experience in the field of evidence synthesis, knowledge translation, evidence-informed policymaking and accreditation. Her research activities and interest are focused on health systems and policy which include evidence-informed policy, knowledge translation, quality improvement, human resources for health, accreditation, data visualization, child protection, infant and maternal health and healthy aging. 12

13 Annette Abraham Technische Universität München linkedin.com/in/annette-abraham-860b95110 Nach dem Biologie-Studium an der LMU hat Frau Abraham in Paris und München Public Health studiert. Während eines Ersamus- Aufenthaltes an der Université de Bordeaux hat sie sich dann in dem Bereich International Health vertieft. Seit ihrer Masterabeit beschäftigt sie sich mit internationaler/ globaler Neuroinfektiologie, im Speziellen der Neuroinfektionserkrankung Neurozystizerkose (vernachlässigte Tropenkrankheit). Ihr Fokus liegt auf der Kontrolle dieser Erkrankung in Europa (Studienaufenthalt und Zusammenarbeit mit dem ECDC) und der Behandlung dieser Erkankung weltweit (Erstellung systematischer Reviews für die WHO guidelines zur Diagnose und Behandlung der Neurozystizerkose). Annette Abraham holds a Bachelor in biology and a Master s in Public Health. During her studies abroad in Bordeaux (France), she was able to deepen her knowledge in international health. Her main research interests since then is in the field of international/global neuroinfectiology (e.g. contributing to surveillance of neurocysticercosis in Europe (in collaboration with ECDC), and working as a WHO consultant for the WHO guidelines on diagnosis and treatment of taenia solium neurocysticercosis). 13

Nach dem Studium bei UN Volunteers im Afrika-Bereich zuständig für verschiedene Länderportfolios u.a. mit Gesundheitsprogrammen. Seit 2010 im Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung; zunächst im Grundsatzbereich, danach als WZ-Referentin für drei Jahre an der Deutschen Botschaft in Windhuk, Namibia, jetzt Stellvertretende Referatsleiterin im Referat für Gesundheit, Bevölkerungspolitik und soziale Sicherung. Zuständig u.a. für die Themen Gesundheitssicherheit und Gesundheitsfachkräfte. After graduating from her studies in geography, she worked as Programme Specialist overseeing different African country portfolios at the UN Volunteers programme, including Programmes on Health and HIV and AIDS. Since 2010 she has been working for the BMZ, on policy issues, as counsellor for development cooperation at the German Embassy in Windhuk, Namibia and on health specifically on health security and health workforce issues. 14

15 Dr. Inge Baumgarten Head of Global Programmes Health, Education and Social Development Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit linkedin.com/in/inge-dr-baumgarten-b87a1b29 Dr. Inge Baumgarten leitet im Bereich der Sektor- und Globalvorhaben der GIZ die Gruppe Gesundheit, Bildung und Soziales. Sie verfügt über eine mehr als 17-jährige Erfahrung durch ihre Tätigkeit im öffentlichen Gesundheitssektor und in der internationaler Zusammenarbeit in unterschiedlichen technischen Beratungspositionen und als Führungskraft, sowohl in Deutschland, in den Staaten Subsahara-Afrikas und Südasien als auch im WHO-Regionalbüro für Europa. Sie strebt nach effektiven Lösungen bei komplexen Herausforderungen und ist Fürsprecherin für eine gerechte und inklusive Herangehensweise in nachhaltiger Entwicklung im Bereich der Gesundheit und darüber hinaus. Als ausgebildete Sozialwissenschaftlerin (Dr Phil), Medizinantropologin (MA) und Spezialistin im öffentlichen Gesundheitssektor (MSc Public Health LSHTM) verfügt sie über Erfahrung in der interkulturellen und internationalen Zusammenarbeit. Dr. Inge Baumgarten is head of Global Programmes Health, Education and Social Development at GIZ. With over seventeen years of experience in public health and international cooperation she has been serving in various technical advisory and leadership positions in Germany, in countries of Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia as well as with the WHO Regional Office for Europe. She strives for effective solutions to complex challenges and advocates for a rights-based and inclusive approach to sustainable development in health and beyond. A social scientist (Dr Phil), medical anthropologist (MA) and Public Health professional (MSc Public Health LSHTM) by training, she is experienced in intercultural and international cooperation. 15

Anna Berezovskaja is a technical advisor at GIZ focusing on the areas of health systems strengthening, global health and cooperation with the private sector in health and social protection. She worked in health systems development in Tanzania and Cambodia. Anna holds a Master s degree in Development Studies from the London School of Economics and Political Science. 17

18 Dr. Catharina Boehme Chief Executive Officer FIND linkedin.com/in/catharina-boehme Dr. Catharina Boehme ist CEO von FIND, einer internationalen Non-Profit-Organisation mit Sitz in Genf, Schweiz, die die Entwicklung und den Einsatz von innovativen Tests zur Diagnose von Infektionskrankheiten in Entwicklungsländern vorantreibt. Vernachlässigte Tropenkrankheiten sind ein Schwerpunkt von FIND. Unter der Führung von Catharina wurden in den letzten drei Jahren zehn neue Diagnostika für Schlafkrankheit, Malaria und Tuberkulose eingeführt. Sie hat den Fokus von FIND auf die Bereiche antimikrobielle Resistenz und Epidemieprävention erweitert. Catharina kämpft für die Schließung der massiven diagnostischen Lücke bei der Tuberkulose. Catharina hat einen Doktor der Medizin der Ludwig- Maximilians-Universität in München und der Universität Heidelberg sowie Diplome im Bereich Public Health und Management. Sie ist Vorsitzende der Arbeitsgruppe Neue Diagnostik des Stop-TB-Partnership und wirkt in mehreren Gremien mit (WHO STAG-TB, EU Horizon 2020 Dx, Australian Innovation Exchange Programme). Sie ist Autorin von mehr als 100 Publikationen. Dr. Catharina Boehme is the Chief Executive Officer of FIND, an international non-profit organization headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland that drives the development and delivery of diagnostic tests for diseases of poverty. Under Catharina s leadership, ten new diagnostic tools have been introduced in resource poor settings over the last three years, for sleeping sickness, malaria and tuberculosis. She has expanded FIND s scope to include outbreak preparedness, hepatitis elimination and antimicrobial resistance and is passionate about closing the massive diagnostic gap in tuberculosis, the leading global infectious disease killer. Catharina holds a MD from Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and Heidelberg University, Germany, as well as diplomas in Public Health and Management. She is the Chair of the New Diagnostics Working Group of the Stop TB Partnership and serves on several Public Health Advisory Committees (WHO STAG-TB; EU Horizon 2020 Dx; Australian Innovation Exchange Programme). She has authored more than 100 publications. 18

19 Prof. Dr. Theda Borde Professorin Alice Salomon Hochschule Berlin linkedin.com/in/theda-borde-5851b45a Theda Borde studierte Politikwissenschaften und Gesundheitswissenschaften und promovierte in Public Health. Sie ist Professorin an der Alice Salomon Hochschule; von war sie Rektorin der Hochschule. Sie hat langjährige Erfahrungen in der praktischen Sozialen Arbeit in einem internationalen Zentrum für Immigrantinnen und geflüchtete Frauen und war als Wissenschaftlerin in verschiedenen Public- Health-Projekten an der Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin tätig. Ihre Forschungsschwerpunkte konzentrieren sich auf die Gesundheit von Immigranten, Frauen und Müttern, Gesundheitsförderung und Versorgungsforschung. Sie wirkt in verschiedenen internationalen und nationalen wissenschaftlichen Beiräten und Gremien mit. Theda Borde studied political science and health sciences and received a doctoral degree in Public Health. She is professor at the Alice Salomon Hochschule Berlin; from she was the rector of the university of applied sciences. She has longstanding practical work experience in an international center for immigrant and refugee women and as a researcher in various public health projects at Charité University Medicine Berlin. Her research and teaching focus on immigrants, women s and maternal health, health promotion and health service research and development. She cooperates in various international and regional scientific boards and networks. 19

Primarily trained as a specialist physician in infectious diseases she spent most of her initial career working on prevention, clinical care, and research and teaching on HIV/AIDS, neglected tropical diseases and other infectious diseases in specialized units in Germany and, as a guest, in San Francisco. After her specialization, she moved to Malteser International to work in refugee camps in Thailand and Albania. She then decided to broaden her expertise to public health with a Master degree in Public Health and Control of Infectious Diseases from LSHTM. In ihrer Arbeit in Deutschland und in Tansania hat sie v.a. auf die Verknüpfung von Gesundheitssystemstärkung, Einbindung der Zivilgesellschaft und internationale Finanzierungsinstrumente wie den GFATM fokussiert. Seit 2016 leitet Kristina Kloss ein GIZ-Projekt zur Unterstützung des Bundesministeriums für Gesundheit zunächst im Rahmen der deutschen G20-Präsidentschaft und aktuell im Bereich globale Gesundheit. Seit 2015 lebt und arbeitet sie in Berlin. Dr. Ekua Yankah is an Afro-German social scientist and activist. From 2007 to 2010 she initiated and led UNESCO s global programme on sexuality education. She was responsible for commissioning and publishing the first edition of the United Nations Technical Guidance on Sexuality Education. Since 2010 she has worked as an independent consultant for UNICEF, UNFPA and BZgA. Ekua holds a PhD in social epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (UK) and a Masters in Public Health from George Washington University (USA). she is based in Berlin, Germany. 111
