1 FILMING WITH 5D,7D and 60D
WHITE BALANCE (WB): Never AWB - it may change the color of your picture WHILE you are shooting. there are Presets, that are really ok. the professional way is to make a Custom White Balance. (the manuals explain how it works.) VIDEO SYSTEM: PAL in Germany/Europe MOVIE REC SIZE /RESOLUTION: there s 1920 x 1080 at 25 fps - regular HDTV (16 GB is 44 minutes) there s 1280 x 720 at 50 fps - small HD less resolution (also 16 GB is 44 minutes) there s 640 x 480 at 25 fps don t use it - that s even smaller than SD PAL Video.
SOUNDRECORDING: put it in AUTO and make shure it s switched on. (alsways record external sound, the camera sound is not good.) FOCUS: put the focus mode in MF, don t use AF (the button is at the side of the lens) Anyway you cannot film in AF mode like with video cameras. FOCUS ASSIST: helps to adjust the focus, it s very a very important, awesome function. It works like a virtual zoom so that you can see part of the picture very close.
ISO: the measure of a photographic film s sensitivity to light, determined by sensitometry and measured on various numerical scales, the most recent being the ISO system.the higher the ISO, the more noisy your picture can become. ISO from 100 to 640 are ok.and switch off AUTO ISO! SHUTTER: the best is to leave it in 50! the shutter changes the expose. a very high shutter changes the style of movements in your picture. IRIS: you can adjust the aperture with the wheel on the back. at old lenses, the aperture ring is directly at the lens. DETAIL SETTINGS: You can adjust the image, there are also presets and one of them is black and white.
LENSES: Different Factor for 5D Camera and at the 7D and 60D Cameras! Crop factor is a property of the camera body, not lenses. A 7D and a 60 D has a crop factor of 1.6x, just like every Canon DSLR its price or cheaper. Apply the crop factor to all lenses, regardless of whether they are EF, EF-S, digital, L, or whatever. 22mm x 1.6 = 35mm 50mm x 1.6 = 80mm The crop factor is a reference number that relates to the difference in sensor size. The 5D has a full frame sensor- its crop factor is 1.0.
HISTOGRAMM: The camera display is not calibrated. It doesn t show the exact picture. Therefore the histogram is a big help for shooting. A histogram is nothing more than a bar graph. It shows how the luminance values in a digital or digitized photograph are distributed. The linear scale in a histogram runs from black at the left to white at the right end. Usually you can activate the histogram by pressing the INFO button. Some Cameras show it only before filming in the standby mode. Siehst Du also bei Deinem Foto im Histogramm diese Werte (links), dann bedeutet das, dass Dein Foto überbelichtet ist. Die grössten Anteile des Fotos sind somit sehr hell und auch weiss. Dadurch gehen so manche Strukturen und Details verloren. Es bietet sich an, mit einer Belichtungskorrektur (dunkler) das Foto noch einmal zu machen. Übrigens : Ist eine überbelichtete Aufnahme mit Absicht erstellt worden, so spricht man von einem Highkey-Foto. Solch ein Foto ist dann auch sehr hell und soll gerade dadurch seine Ausdruckskraft bekommen. Hierbei wird die Überbelichtung grosser Flächen im Foto gezielt eingesetzt.
Sollte Dein Foto ein Histogramm anzeigen, dass so aus sieht wie hier dann ist Dein Foto unterbelichtet. Hierbei kannst Du genau umgekehrt wie im ersten Beispiel vorgehen. Einfach mit einer helleren Aufnahme das Foto nocheinmal machen. Auch bei den unterbelichteten Fotos gibt es Ausnahmen, wenn sie absichtlich so erstellt wurden. Man nennt sie Low-Key und auch diese Bilder haben eine ganz eigene Stimmung. Diese sind (wie sich jeder denken kann) besonders dunkel. Hat Dein Histogramm Werte wie dieses hier (oder ähnlich), dann verrät es Dir, dass die meisten Details gut zu erkennen sind. Das Foto ist weder unter noch überbelichtet. Hierzu muss ich sagen, dass es ganz auf das Foto ankommt und Histogramme wirklich sehr unterschiedlich aussehen können. Dieses dient nur als Beispiel um zu veranschaulichen. Depth of field: depth of field is influenced by: the iris, the lens ( the angle), the distance of the filmed object. 1.The wider the angle of the lens and the more closed the iris - the bigger the depth of field. 2. The more tele the lens and the more open the iris the smaller the depth of field. 2 1 - Je größer Brennweite und Blendenöffnung - Je größer der Sensor - Je näher das Motiv am Objektiv ist -> desto geringer ist der abgebildete Schärfebereich.
2 EDITING H.264 THE VIDEO OF 5D, 7D and 60D IN FINAL CUT PRO
H.264 Codec: You should never use your native h.264 material in Final Cut Pro. H.264 isn t an editing format, which is logical, given that it s a delivery format by nature. for working in Final Cut Pro you should convert into a native apple codec such as ProRes or Pro- Res HQ. Therefore Canon provides a plug in for Final Cut. Load your material via LOG AND TRANSFER: Set your preferences
Your material will appear in your project. The Transferred files with the ProRes Codec will be stored in the Capture Scratch folder of your project.
Syncing External Sound: As you always should record external sound, because the camera mics od the D Cameras are very bad, for syncing you could use a application called Pluraleyes (no freeware, but there is a 30 days trial version). for this method please be shure to have the camera mic switched on so that afterwards the application has a reference for syncing.
