P R E S S E M I T T E I L U N G Kabel Deutschland startet DVB-C2-Feldversuch in Berlin, Hamburg und München Unterföhring, 6.Juni 2013 Im Rahmen eines Feldversuchs verbreitet Kabel Deutschland seit heute in Berlin Hamburg und München auf Kanal D 794 (794 MHz Mittenfrequenz) TV-Programme in dem neuen DVB-C2 Standard. Sobald eine nennenswerte Verfügbarkeit an kompatiblen Endgeräten für Endkunden gewährleistet ist, wird der erweiterte Feldversuch in den DVB-C2 Regelbetrieb überführt werden. Die wesentlichen Vorteile von DVB-C2 sind die höhere Übertragungseffizienz und die optimalen Anpassungsmöglichkeiten an die Charakteristiken unterschiedlicher Kabelnetze, sagt Lorenz Glatz, Chief Technology Officer bei Kabel Deutschland. Erreicht wird dies durch das neue OFDM-Modulationsverfahren und den leistungsfähigen LDPC-Fehlerschutz, die beide auch im zukünftigen DOCSIS 3.1 Standard zum Einsatz kommen werden. Insgesamt kann mit DVB-C2 die maximale Downstream-Datenkapazität in einem 862 MHz-Kabelnetz von heute ca. fünf Gbit/s auf bis zu acht Gbit/s erhöht werden. Die Einführung des neuen Standards wird die ohnehin schon sehr leistungsfähige Infrastruktur Breitbandkabel weiter aufwerten und noch umfangreichere Angebote ermöglichen. Kabelkunden dürfen also gespannt sein, so Glatz. Erstmals in Kabelnetzen wird hiermit die DVB-C2 1024-QAM Modulation bei einer 3/4 FEC-Rate verwendet, die gegenüber DVB-C eine um 46 Prozent höhere Spektrumseffizienz bei unverändertem Sendesignalpegel bietet. Wir hoffen, dass die Geräteindustrie demnächst ihre Endgeräte mit kombinierten DVB-C2/DVB-C- Empfangsteilen in den Markt bringen wird, damit wir dann unser DVB-C2-Angebot erweitern können und so Schritt für Schritt die Migration zu DVB-C2 ermöglicht wird. The field trial will migrate into a regular service as soon as relevant availability of DVB-C2 compliant receivers is given for KD cable customers. The essential advantages of DVB-C2 are the excellent spectrum efficiency and the flexibility to adapt the parameters to the characteristics to the individual network or application, says Lorenz Glatz, Chief Technology Officer of Kabel Deutschland. The key building blocks of DVB-C2 are the new OFDM modulation scheme and the powerful LDPC Error protection system, which both will be used in the future DOCSIS 3.1 standard as well. DVB-C2 will allow increasing the maximum downstream capacity in an 862 MHz cable network from today about 5 Gbit/s to up to 8 Gbit/s in future. The introduction of this new standard will further improve the competitiveness of our already very powerful infrastructure cable and allow extending the service offerings significantly. Cable customers can look forward to a new range of products and services, Glatz adds.
