7 Illuminance (Beleuchtungsstärke) Die Beleuchtungsstärke EV beschreibt die auf einen reflektierenden Körper auftreffende Lichtenergie. 8 Illuminance (Beleuchtungsstärke) Die Beleuchtungsstärke hat großen Einfluss darauf, wie gut eine Sehaufgabe zum Beispiel beim Lesen oder bei der Arbeit am Computer von den Augen bewältigt werden kann. 9 Daylight Factor (Tageslichtquotient) Daylight Factor (DF) is defined as the ratio of the indoor illuminance (Ei) at a point of interest to the outdoor horizontal illuminance (Eo) under the overcast sky. DF = (Ei / Eo) x 100% Limitations: The major weakness of the daylight factor is that the orientation of the investigated building does not influence the daylight factor. Nevertheless, the daylight factor is widely used and provides a feeling of how bright or dark the interior of a given building is.

10 Daylight Factor (Tageslichtquotient) Guide values: DF < 2 Not adequately lit artificial lighting will be required. 2 < DF < 5 Adequately lit but artificial lighting may be in use for part of the time. DF > 5 Well lit artificial lighting generally not required except at dawn and dusk but glare and solar gain may cause problems.

12 Daylight Autonomy (Tageslichtautonomie) The daylight autonomy at a point in a building is defined as the percentage of occupied hours per year, when the minimum illuminance level can be maintained by daylight alone. In contrast to the more commonly used daylight factor, the daylight autonomy considers all sky conditions throughout the year. Example: A daylight autonomy of 70% for a work place with working hours on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. and a minimum illuminance levels of 500 lux implies that the occupant can in principle work 70% of the year by daylight alone.

14 Useful Daylight Illuminances (UDI) Useful Daylight Illuminances (UDI) aims to determine when daylight levels are useful for the occupant, i.e. neither too dark (<100 lux) nor too bright (>2000 lux). Based on the upper and lower thresholds of 2000 lux and 100 lux, UDI results in three metrics, i.e. the percentages of the occupied times of the year when the UDI was achieved ( lux), fell-short (<100 lux), or was exceeded (> 2000 lux). The last bin is meant to detect the likely appearance of glare.

18 Rules of Thumb Daumenregeln Die Landesbauordnungen schreiben je nach Bundesland verschieden zwischen 1/8 und 1/10 der Raumgrundfläche als Fensterfläche vor. Großzügiger ist die Empfehlung nach DIN 5034 Tageslicht in Innenräumen : Die Breite des durchsichtigen Teils des Fensters (bzw. die Summe der Breiten aller Fenster) sollte mindestens 55% der Breite des Wohnraums betragen.
