1 Anschluss der NCR PC-8881 Doppelfloppystaton an einen "normalen" Computer (keinen NEC): Durch die Wannenstecker auf der Laufwerksplatine des FD1165A ist die Belegung an der 50pol. Centronics Buchse um 180Grad gedreht. Ich hatte als Adapter ein "SCSI-Flachkabel auf Centronics Buchse" genutzt und dann den Computer mit externem 50pol SCSI Kabel mit der Floppystation verbunden. Somit war alles 1:1 durch verbunden. Aber - bedingt durch die Drehung der Belegung hatte ich dann einen Kurzschluss an Floppycontroller und Masse gegen Signal verbunden. Schlecht! Normal ist ungerade 1-49 = Masse, gerade 2-50 = Signal. Durch die Wannenstecker der Floppy ist es jetzt umgekehrt. Behoben habe ich das Problem, indem ich im Computer das 50pol Flachkabel auf der Stiftleiste des Controllers auch verdreht gesteckt habe. Also 2 x verdreht... wieder richtig. Anschliessend reagierte die Floppystation normal und ich wollte eine Diskette formatieren. Die Formatierung startet - es kam aber sofort eine Verify Fehlermeldung. Schlecht! Durch Vergleich mit einer einzelnen FD1165 die schon in Benutzung war und Lesen im Handbuch habe ich den Fehler gefunden. Umstecken des Jumpers RD brachte die Rettung.!!! PROBLEME MIT LESEN / SCHREIBEN!!! Das NEC FD1165 wurde mit den Computern NEC APC oder 98 Serie verwendet, welche die Schnittstellensignale durch VFO (3.5) zum Verbessern der Signalstaerke aktiviert haben. Fuer die Verwendung mit anderen Computern und Standard-Floppy- Controllern muss VFO durch den in gezeigte RD-Jumper abgeschaltet werden. Ich habe das FD1165A und das FD1165FQ. FD1165A hatte VFO per Jumper RD aktiviert, FD1165FQ hatte VFO mit Loetbruecken deaktiviert, was je nach Laufwerksmodell variieren kann.!!! PROBLEMS WITH READ/WRITE!!! The NEC FD 1165 maybe used with the NEC APC or 98 series computers.these have enabled the VFO for strength Interface Signals ( 3.5). For use with other computers and standard floppy controller you have to disable the VFO bythe RD Jumper shown in Remove the drive from its enclosure and look for a jumper called RD. Change jumpersettings from 2 to 1 (don't forget to put it back to 2 if using the drive again with a Japanese PC, this is the VFO switch). I have the FD1165A and the FD1165FQ. The FD1165A had VFO enabled with a jumper for RD, the FD1165FQ has VFO disabled with solder-type connectors. This may be vary on other drives. # VFO = Variable Frequenzy Oszillator

Basically, the serial I/O device converts parallel data of the microprocessor into serial data and vice versa A functional block diagram of the serial I/O device is shown in Figure Table The serial I/O connects to the APC rear panel with a 26-pin cable connector, designated CN3 on the Controller PCB.
