Here are some useful phrases: Was ist die Meinung Ihres Chefs? Wo ist der Bericht Ihres Kollegen? Trotz des Wetters gehen wir spazieren. Eines Tages fahre ich nach Paris. Während des Sommers bleibe ich zu Hause. What is the opinion of your boss? Where is your colleague s report? We re taking a walk in spite of the weather. One day, I m going to Paris. During the summer, I m staying home. TRACK 2 Another way to talk about ownership is to use the genitive case. The standard marker for this case is /S/, just as in English. We say Peter s book, and the Germans say Peters Buch. Just as there are nominative, accusative and dative words for The, there is also a set of genitive words for The. In English, we often use the construction Of + a noun to mark possession, for example, What is the opinion of your boss?. We can also say, What is your boss s opinion? In German, you will use the genitive case for both of these English expressions. Here is the genitive case The Masculine: Feminine: Neuter: Plural: des der des der 122
