3 Chairman s Corner Dear GSSPE members and friends of GSSPE, Time is passing by so fast. Almost a half of the year has passed already. For GSSPE it has been time full of events including different technical talks, Ambassador Lectures at Universities, Young Professional Events, Meet & Greet s and the first SPE Germany Women in Oil and Gas Workshop. Furthermore, the next annual general meeting is approaching. It is going to take place at Baker Hughes in Celle on the 29th of June. I would like to encourage all GSSPE members to participate. The second half of the year is promising to be full of great events like technical talks and the STC. This year the Student Technical Conference [STC] is moving to a new location. On th November it is scheduled to take place at the Clausthal University. This is a special issue of our GSSPE newsletter, as it is our first digital only newsletter!, and we hope it will be easy to download. More good news is that a new student group at KIT (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology) got established under the wing of GSSPE. On behalf of the GSSPE board I would like to cordially welcome the new members of the KIT student group! Enjoy the summer season and see you at the next meeting! May 29, 2017 Vortrag Hannover Wiedererschließung des Erdölfeldes Suderbruch mittels einer neuen mobilen modularen Langzeitfördertestanlage Kurt A. Sackmaier (Wintershall) Donnerstag, 15. Juni 2017 Abstract: Für die Wiedererschließung des Ölfeldes Suderbruch wurden zwei Explorationsbohrungen abgeteuft um einerseits alle möglichen Lagerstätten zu untersuchen und andererseits den Gigas-Träger, der selbst in der 45-jährigen historischen Produktionsphase nicht hinreichend ausgebeutet werden konnte mit neuer Technologie aufzuschließen und über eine längere Zeit zu testen. Hierfür wurde eine neue mobile modulare Langzeitfördertestanlage konzipiert und gebaut. Aufgabe dieser Anlage ist es, rasch nach Abteufen der beiden Wiedererschließungsbohrungen das Langzeitförderverhalten zu untersuchen und verkaufsfähiges Erdöl zu produzieren. Im Wiederentwicklungsfall soll sie dann auch die Zeit bis zur Inbetriebnahme stationärer Aufbereitungsanlagen zu überbrücken. Die Bohrungen Suderbruch 2001 und 2002 wurden von November 2015 bis März 2016 niedergebracht und mit einer elektrischen Tauchkreiselpumpe sowie einer Insert-Exzenterschneckenpumpe komplettiert. Im Zuge der Testarbeiten waren verschiedene Stimulationen und Rekomplettierungen erforderlich. Das Hauptproblem hierbei die passende Auslegung der Pumpen und die spezifische Beurteilung der jeweiligen Bereiche aus denen gefördert wurde. Die zum Langzeitfördertest gebaute Anlage sollte > weitestgehend modular aufgebaut und somit flexibel und transportabel sein, > die geförderten Produkte spezifikationsgerecht trennen, aufbereiten und stapeln können, > weitestgehend mannlos und fernüberwacht sowie durch die Messwarte in Barnstorf betrieben werden können, > alle für die Beurteilung der Bohrungen erforderlichen Informationen akquirieren und archivieren können und > unsere HSE-Anforderungen und die No Flanring Policy erfüllen können.

5 Vortrag Hannover Page 2 of Natürlich muss die Anlage für Teste gewünschte Änderungen der Fördermengen problemlos darstellen können und ohne personellen Eingriff auch auf Wetter- und Situationsänderungen reagieren können. Für die Prozessdatenerfassung, -übertragung und -visualisierung stehen die schon in den anderen Feldern bewährten Systeme wie ifix, SPS mit entsprechender Sensorik und Profibus zur Verfügung. Über VPN können die Signale und Informationen aber auch an die Laptops der Mitarbeiter gesendet und Steuerbefehle abgesetzt werden. Mittels spezieller Software (ACRON) werden alle Messwerte weiterverarbeitet und zu Diagrammen und Berichten geformt, sodass dem Betriebspersonal jederzeit der passende Einblick in die Verfahrensweise ermöglicht wird. 7 On 03 and 04 th of November 2016 it was time again for the 11 th Student Technical Conference held at the historical surroundings of the Deutsches Erdölmuseum in Wietze. Although challenged by the current market conditions, participation by students and professionals was still at excellent levels. A special thanks needs to be given to the organizing committee, who did a great job in selecting interesting presentations that allowed for this great event to take place. STC 2016 organizing team: Ingo Forstner and UlrikePeikert The conference has established itself in the last several years as a prime event to learn about the research done in academia related to the wider oilfield. As the presentations are solely performed by students, it is also a good first opportunity for them to present their work to a broad audience. It also offered opportunities for students and potential employers in the oilfield industry for informal discussions. Similar to previous years, the German Oil Museum was chosen as venue for the event, not the least because it offers a unique setting where you can smell oilfield history. If an opportunity raises itself one should visit the Museum that shows a true history in one of the birthplaces of the global Oil & Gas industry. Although our current short term industry outlook is not optimal STC maintained its wide participation and this year there were approximately 90 participants. They came not only from our associated student chapters in Aachen, Clausthal and Freiberg, but also from different Universities in Germany as well as from Austria, Hungary, Romania, Russia and India. Participation was divided between presentations and poster sessions. After last year s successful introduction another Young Professional session was held. During this session the students could get an insight in the day to day activities (or how do I survive all these meetings) explained by academia who just started in their jobs. This year s keynote speaker was Dr. Christoph Löwer, Managing Director of BVEG. The title was well placed in today s climate The future of the German E&P Industry and the role of the business organisation

12 " Case Study: Methods for automated Drilling Performance Analysis Based on Downhole Measurements " Hamza Sellami, Leibniz Universität Hannover Hamza started his presentation by explaining his motivation for this subject; i.e. through the need for drilling optimization based on post well dynamics and vibrations data analysis. In the post-drilling phase huge advancements can be made. Not only failure runs should be evaluated, but also successful runs, to establish good operational procedures for future use. Further there is a need for standardization and automation of the data analysis process, which drives the need to define KPIs to systemize the analysis and present the data to give better insights..

13 Extended Horizontal Jet Drilling for Geothermal and Hard Rock Applications" Simon Hahn, Ruhr-Universität Bochum Simon discussed work done by the International Geothermal Centre as part of the European Union s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program. As part of the program students work on innovative concepts to drill a hole in this case radial jet drilling.
