14 Nützliche Informationen zum Thema Batterien und der Alternative "Akkus und Ladetechnik" Useful information concerning batteries and the alternative rechargeable batteries and charging technology Einsatzmöglichkeit und Kosten von Akkus im Vergleich zu Primärbatterien Batterien sind quer über den Haushalt verteilt, sitzen in jedem zweiten Spielzeug, im Walkman, Discman, Blitzgeräten, Digitalkameras, Gameboys usw.. 60 Batterien verbraucht ein Haushalt im Jahreschnitt diese verursachen Jahr für Jahr ca DM Kosten. Akkus sind fast immer die intelligentere Lösung! Sie können überall dort eingesetzt werden, wo Batterien im Einsatz sind. Die Kosteneinsparung beim Einsatz von Akkus anstelle normaler Batterien ist enorm. Wer z.b. mit seiner Digitalkamera im Jahr 500 Bilder macht, legt für Batterien rund 80 DM auf den Tisch. Für zwei Batterien kann er einen Akku kaufen, den aber bis zu 1000 mal laden. Thema Umwelt Batterien sind die teuerste Energieform überhaupt. Sie verbrauchen zu ihrer Herstellung 50 bis 500 mal mehr Energie als sie bei der Nutzung zur Verfügung stellen. Diese Bilanz kann durch Akkus deutlich verbessert werden. Ein weiterer Nachteil von Batterien kommt hinzu: Sie sind aus physikalischen Gründen nicht recycelbar. Die gängigsten Akkus hingegen, NiCd-Akkus, lassen sich zu 100% recyceln und Ihre Rohstoffe können zur Neuproduktion verwendet werden. Das entscheidende Umwelt-Plus von Akkus ihre lange Lebensdauer bleibt jedoch nur erhalten, wenn man sie richtig handhabt. (Quelle: Umweltbundesamt) Achtung Akku-Killer! Akkus können unterschiedlich viel Energie aufnehmen. Darum brauchen Sie unterschiedliche Ladeströme oder eine entsprechende Überwachung beim Laden. Billigstgeräte oft schon für unter zehn Mark im Handel erhältlich haben meist keinen Verpolschutz. Das heißt: Wer den Akku falsch einlegt, zerstört Ihn. Ausserdem erkennen diese Geräte oft nicht, welchen Ladestrom der Akku verlangt oder haben keine Ladekontrolle. Im besten Fall laden Sie den Akku schlecht, im schlimmsten Fall zerstören Sie Ihn. Mit solchen Geräten geladene Akkus halten statt bis zu 1000 Ladungen nur Solche Lader sind die reinsten Akku-Killer. Gute Ladegeräte haben grundsätzlich einen Verpolschutz, stellen sich auf die Bedürfnisse des Akkus ein und geben ihm automatisch den richtigen Ladestrom (z.b. unsere BASIC Serie ab Seite 12). Profigeräte laden schnell auch halbvolle Akkus, sparen Zeit und verhindern durch eine Refreshmöglichkeit den bei NiCd-Akkus auftretenden Memory-Effekt. Sie sind absolut bedienerfreundlich und laden auch Akkus, die zu unterschiedlichen Zeiten eingelegt werden. Sie signalisieren, sobald der Akku voll ist und erkennen sogar defekte Akkus. Die Erhaltungsladung gestattet dem Benutzer momentan nicht benötigte Akkus im Ladegerät zu lassen. Dort entladen Sie sich nicht und sind sofort betriebsbereit, wenn sie gebraucht werden (z.b. unsere POWERline Serie ab Seite 6). Hinweise im Umgang mit Akkus: Akkus sollten vor Erstgebrauch geladen werden. Akkus weder verbrennen, kurzschließen oder gewaltsam öffnen. Grundsätzlich sind beide Akkutypen, ob NiCd-Akku oder NiMH-Akku verwendbar. Um den Kapazitätsverlust Memory-Effekt bei NiCd-Akkus zu vermeiden, sollten diese nach ca. 10 Ladezyklen eimal komplett entladen werden. Die Ladezeit der Akkus ist abhängig von der Nennkapazität der Akkus und der Höhe des Ladestroms. Die Ladezeit eines Akkus läßt sich mit Hilfe folgender Berechnung ermitteln. Ladezeit (h)= Kapazität des Akkus (mah) x 1,4 (Ladefaktor) Ladestrom des Ladegerätes (ma) Zur Orientierung befindet sich bei allen ANSMANN-Ladegeräten eine Ladezeittabelle auf der Geräterückseite, woraus die Ladezeit in Abhängigkeit von Ladestrom und Akku-Kapazität ersichtlich wird. Dieses Phänomen kann bei falscher Handhabung sehr schnell dazu führen, dass der Akku nicht mehr in der Lage ist die volle Kapazität zu speichern bzw. abzugeben. Das hat zur Folge dass die Akkus bereits nach kurzer Betriebszeit nicht mehr die benötigte Spannung liefern. Der Memory-Effekt tritt dann auf, wenn NiCd-Akkus nur im teilentladenen Zustand aufgeladen werden. Durch Verwendung von ANSMANN-Ladegeräten mit Entladefunktion geben Sie dem schnellen Akku-Tod keine Chance. Ergänzend muss erwähnt werden, dass der Memory-Effekt nur bei NiCd-Rundzellen auftritt. Der 9V-Block ist eine Zusammenschaltung von mehreren Knopfzellen, diese Zellenart kann bauartbedingt keinen Memory-Effekt aufbauen. Aus diesem Grund wird eine Entladung der 9V-Blöcke überflüssig. Nenn-Kapazität: Die vom Hersteller angegebene Kapazität eines Akkus (mah). Je höher die Nennkapazität eines Akkus, um so länger wird die Betriebsdauer des Verbrauchers (z.b. Laufzeit eines Discman mit 600 mah Akkus 2 Stunden; mit 1500 mah Akkus 5 Stunden). Selbstentladung: Kapzitätsverlust eines geladenen Akkus bei einer längeren Lagerung. Automatische Ladestromanpassung: Durch die Konstruktion der V-förmigen Lademulden und der unterschiedlichen Kontakte am Pluspol wird erreicht, dass jeder Akku den für ihn optimalen Ladestrom erhält. Erhaltungsladung/Impuls-Erhaltungsladung: Garantiert, dass geladene Akkus nach Ladeende über einen längeren Zeitraum im Ladegerät verbleiben können ohne überladen zu werden. Den Akkus wird ein geringer Strom zugeführt um der Selbstentladung der Akkus entgegenzuwirken. Applications and costs of rechargeable batteries in comparison with primary batteries Batteries are often used in households, toys, walkmans, discmans, flashlights, digital cameras, gameboys etc. A household uses approximately 60 batteries a year that is to say it has costs of about DM a year. In almost every case rechargeable batteries are the best solution! They can be used wherever batteries are used. By using rechargeable batteries (instead of nonrechargeable batteries) you can save a lot of money. For example: Someone who takes 500 digital photographs a year pays about DM 80 for batteries. Instead of two batteries he could also buy one rechargeable batterie which could be charged up to 1000 times. Sponsoring Environment Batteries are the most expensive form of energy. The production of these cells demands approximately times more energy than they ll provide afterwards. This balance could be much better by using rechargeable batteries. In addition to this we mustn t forget that batteries can t be recycled for reasons of physics. The best selling rechargeable batteries (NiCd) can be recycled up to 100% and their raw materials can be used to produce new batteries. Nevertheless the biggest environmental advantage of rechargeable batteries that is to say their long life will only be kept if they are used correctly. (Source: federal environment office) Caution! Rechargeable batterie killer! Rechargeable batteries can store different quantities of energy. That s why they need different charging currents or an adequate charging supervision. Usually low price chargers (which are often offered under DM 10 / piece) aren t equipped with a polereversal protection. That is to say: If the rechargeable batterie isn t inserted correctly it ll be damaged. Apart from that these devices can t recognize which charging current is required by the cell or they haven t any charging control. At best you ll charge the battery quite badly, at worst you ll damage it. By using such a device, rechargeable batteries can only be charged times (instead of up to 1000 times). Such a charger is a real rechargeable battery killer. Good chargers are equipped with a pole reversal protection, they adapt to the requirements of the rechargeable battery and they provide the correct charging current (e.g. our BASIC series, from page 12 on) Professional chargers charge rapidly (even half-full cells), save a lot of time and avoid the memory effect of NiCD cells due to a refresh possibility. They are absolutely user-friendly and can charge batteries which aren t inserted simultaneously. They are equipped with a cell-full-indicator and a faulty cell detection. Due to trickle charge the cells can remain in the charger unrestrictedly. They won t discharge and will be ready for use. (e.g. POWERline series, from page 6 on). Tips concerning the use of rechargeable batteries Rechargeable batteries have to be charged before use. Do not burn, short-circuit or open any batterie by force. Basically both types of rechargeable batteries (NiCd and NiMH) can be used. On account of wrong use, the rechargeable batterie won t be in a position to store nor to provide the whole capacity. As a result the rechargeable cell can t provide the required voltage after a short operating time. The memory effect appears if the NiCd cells are charged in a partly discharged status. By using ANSMANN chargers with a discharge function you ll avoid this capacity loss. Apart from that you should know that only NiCd cylindrical cells can have such a memory effect. The 9V block is a combination of several button cells. These cells can t have a memory effect, so a discharge is not necessary. Nominal capacity The capacity of a cell indicated by the manufacturer (mah). The higher the nominal capacity of a cell, the longer the operating time of the user (e.g. hours of operation of a discman with 600 mah: 2 h / with 1500 mah: 5 h) Self-discharge Capacity loss of a charged cell during long storage.
