YTM15MA Heating Adjustment Set 5

2. Safety Instructions 2.1 Intended Use The activities described in these operating instructions are reserved exclusively for Sartorius Service personnel (or specialized personnel expressly authorized by them). 2.2 General Safety Instructions Danger of burns! Do not insert the adjustment disk immediately after drying. Do not remove the disposable pan or pan retainer until they have cooled down enough to be touched. Always use the removal tool to transport the adjustment disk or remove it from the moisture analyzer. Allow the adjustment disk to cool on a clean, temperature-resistant pad before or after completion of a measurement. After cooling, place the adjustment disk back into its packaging and store it in a dust-free and protected location. 6 YTM15MA Heating Adjustment Set

3. Device Description 3.1 General The YTM15MA heating adjustment set basically consists of an adjustment disk with a special coating and a GMH175 digital precision thermometer. Both parts have a common serial number (reference ID no.). This is listed in the factory calibration certificate. YTM15MA Heating Adjustment Set 7

3.2 Equipment Supplied After unpacking the heating adjustment set, inspect the device immediately for completeness and any visible external damage. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 No. Description 1 Carrying case 2 GMH175 measuring instrument 3 Adjustment disk 4 Battery 5 Disk holder (removal tool) 6 Measurement cable 7 Factory calibration certificate with serial number (ref. ID no.) 8 Operating instructions 8 YTM15MA Heating Adjustment Set

4. Transport The adjustment disk may only be removed or transported using the disk holder (removal tool). The adjustment disk may not be removed or transported using a sharpedged tool (e.g.: pliers or tweezers). Do not pull the adjustment disk out of the device using the measurement cables. Do not transport the adjustment disk by holding it by the measurement cables. YTM15MA Heating Adjustment Set 9

5. Calibration 5.1 General The moisture analyzer to be calibrated (called device in the following) should be calibrated to the ambient conditions present for the user. If the moisture analyzer is operated in an extraction chamber, then the calibration must also be performed there. Avoid influencing the measured values. The device should always be calibrated while taking the following conditions into account: Calibration should always be performed in a temperate area (room temperature = 20 C) Calibration should always be performed in a clean measurement location On a stable and even surface (table) Drafts (e.g. from open doors/windows) should be avoided Shield the device if required The frequent movement of persons in front of the device should be avoided (unstable conditions) Avoid direct sunlight Avoid gases or dusts Set up a safety distance in the direct vicinity of the device (at least 20 cm on all sides and at least 1 m over the device) 10 YTM15MA Heating Adjustment Set

5.2 Requirement for Calibration When a performance test is carried out for the series MA37 or MA160 device (see Sartorius Moisture Analyzer model MA37 and MA160 operating instructions), both the weighing system and heating unit components are tested and checked at the same time. A ReproEasy pad is required for this. If this test comes back negative multiple times, then a calibration of the heating is probably required. The performance test is not carried out for the MA35 device. In this case, only a single-point comparison of the heating is possible (in this situation, contact Sartorius Service beforehand). The calibration of the heating for a device is a vital procedure. Therefore, a detailed analysis must be performed before the calibration because any possible incorrect calibration can have negative effects on the measurement results for the user. Proceed as follows for the analysis: tt Run the performance test for the MA37/160 devices. yy If this test fails twice consecutively, then either heating calibration or balance calibration is required (see following flowchart). YTM15MA Heating Adjustment Set 11

Device should be tested Run performance Test Test OK? no Text failed 2x? no yes yes Balance tested? no yes Device is OK Calibrate heating Calibrate the balance* * See: Conditions Before Calibration (weighing properties) 12 YTM15MA Heating Adjustment Set

Reasons for an incorrect measurement: Non-compliance regarding ambient conditions Intense direct sunlight Strong draft ReproEasy pad was not used correctly (e.g. the protective film was not removed from the ReproEasy pad or the incorrect side of the ReproEasy pad was placed on the pan) Weighing system is defective Temperature sensor was replaced Heating rod was replaced Motherboard (MA35) was replaced (Err 340) Powerboard (for MA37/160) was replaced Error 79 (MA35): Absence of temperature difference compensations (no dryer adjustment data) 5.3 Conditions before Calibration 5.3.1 Weighing Properties When a calibration of the heating system must be performed on the device, then device weighing properties must be checked beforehand (linearity, reproducibility). Sartorius recommends calibrating the device weighing properties before calibrating the heating properties. Please follow the respective information regarding calibration in the service manuals of the devices being tested. YTM15MA Heating Adjustment Set 13

Devices must first be acclimatized for the calibration/ adjustment. MA35, MA37, and MA160 devices must be turned on in mains operation approx. 30 minutes before calibration without any heating activities. After this task is completed, the device must remain in operation until the calibration of the heating properties takes place. The device sample chamber must be clean; any objects placed inside must be removed. 5.3.2 Heating Properties First check the general heating status of the device: Is the heating element dirty or loose? If yes, clean the heating element and/or secure it. Is the temperature sensor dirty or loose? If yes, clean the temperature sensor and/or secure it. Is the temperature sensor positioned correctly? If no, adjust it to the correct position. 5.4 Single-point Temperature Adjustment (MA35) Perform the single-point temperature adjustment on an acclimatized device (no pre-heating required). The temperature adjustment (duration approx. 85 minutes) must take place while maintaining constant ambient conditions. 14 YTM15MA Heating Adjustment Set

The following procedure corresponds to a fixed, uniform process between heating up, cooling down, measuring and adjusting, each under the same general conditions. These constant conditions are required so that the temperature measurements can be compared. Use the adjustment set to determine the temperature setting of the reference dryer according to the respective control instructions (pre-heating, measuring, cooling down, etc.) and note the determined value. Example: Test temperature setting for reference dryer: 130 C (display) Determined temperature (with adjustment set) for test device: 134.5 C (display) Procedure for single-point temperature adjustment: tt Switch on the device to be tested. tt Set the following temperature parameters: Drying temperature: Test temperature of the reference dryer Remaining parameters: Any tt Select the calibration function using the cursor keys: Confirm CAL (display) with ENTER. tt Select the PH function (heating calibration) via the cursor keys and confirm with ENTER. TAR appears on the display. tt Tare the device with ENTER. tt Now place the measurement disk on the cruciform pan retainer with the GMH175 measuring device connected. YTM15MA Heating Adjustment Set 15

tt Close the hood. yy The measurement starts with the following sequence: 0.0 to 49.9 minutes: Display CAL H1 50.0 to 69.9 minutes: Display CAL H2 70.0 to 84.9 minutes: Display CAL H3 85.0 to 99.9 minutes: Display + x.x, Output display + 0.0. Beeps 5x every 10 sec. until one of the two +/- cursor keys is pressed. tt If the temperature deviation is within tolerance (after 85 minutes), exit the program with the CF key. tt If the temperature deviation is outside of tolerance (between 85 and 100 minutes), correct the temperature with the +/- cursor keys. tt Enter the correction values: Positive values for a temperature that is too low, negative values for a temperature that is too high. tt Confirm the correction by pressing and holding the ENTER key. yy A report is now printed. If no correction entry with a confirmation is made before 100 minutes, the calibration cancels automatically with Err C. Example: Adjustment temperature Adjustment range 50 C +5.5 / 7.5 C 100 C +9.5 / 12.5 C 150 C +13.5 / 18 C The permitted adjustment range depends on the selected drying temperature. 16 YTM15MA Heating Adjustment Set

5.5 Two-point Temperature Calibration/ Adjustment (MA37, MA160) The adjustment can only be activated in Service mode. Enter the service password: see MA37, MA160 service manual. tt Place the measurement disk. The dryer requires a heat-up phase of at least 30 minutes to achieve a uniform temperature in the device for the start of the calibration/adjustment. tt Pre-heat the device to a temperature of 110 C. This may require that you create a new program or change an existing program: Delicate drying 110 C Time 30 minutes 5.5.1 Calibration (MA37, MA160) After the heat-up phase is complete, the device calibration takes place at a temperature of 110 C. The calibration procedure is explained in detail in the MA37, MA160 service manual. The ambient conditions must be maintained during the calibration/adjustment process (duration approx. 50 minutes). If the deviation is significantly outside of the specified tolerance, the service technician can perform a heating calibration/adjustment. 20 YTM15MA Heating Adjustment Set

For the MA37: Make a note of the original method parameters of the customer. After the calibration/adjustment, the method parameters must be restored. 5.5.2 Heating Calibration/Adjustment Do not operate the device with a temperature that is higher than 80 C immediately before the calibration/ adjustment. If this is the case, allow the device to cool down at least 30 minutes with its hood open. tt Place the measurement disk. The dryer requires a heat-up phase of at least 30 minutes to achieve a uniform temperature in the device for the start of the calibration/adjustment. The device is pre-heated to a temperature of 80 C. tt Perform the heating calibration/adjustment in two steps as follows: At a temperature of 80 C (lower measurement point) At a temperature of 140 C (upper measurement point) The two-point calibration/adjustment ensures that operating points in between are within the calibration/ adjustment interval. The calibration/adjustment is described in detail in the MA37, MA160 service manual. YTM15MA Heating Adjustment Set 21

After completion of the heat-up phase (30 min.), the service technical can start the calibration/adjustment process: Procedure A : 12-minute heat-up phase (80 C) 3-minute stabilization phase (visual display) 6-minute measurement value recording (determining and entering the value) Then the device heats up to 140 C on its own. Procedure B : 12-minute heat-up phase (140 C) Approx. 3-5-minute stabilization phase (visual display) 6-minute measurement value recording (determining and entering the value) The device then calculates on its own the new parameters for the measurement values that were entered for the heating calibration/adjustment. A check of the calculated data is only possible here to a limited extent. 22 YTM15MA Heating Adjustment Set

6. Error Codes Certain events cause a message to appear on the display: 1. Some error messages are displayed for approx. 3 seconds (e.g. CAL-Extern : calibration canceled ). 2. Some error messages are displayed until they are acknowledged by a key (e.g. incorrect password for service access ). 3. Information messages are displayed until they are acknowledged with a key. 6.1 Deactivated Keys To prevent operating errors, only relevant functions/ keys are displayed depending on the situation. This prevents most operating errors from occurring. The following buttons are only available in specific circumstances: O T Only if there is a measured value in the zero setting range before external calibration/ adjustment. Only when there is a weight value larger than or smaller than zero. YTM15MA Heating Adjustment Set 23

6.2 Error Messages during Operation Value is too small. Value is too large. Passwords do not match Wrong password Error 46 Error 401 to 407 When an entered value is too low for the parameter. When an entered value is too high for the parameter. When a password does not match the previous entry. When password protection is enabled and the password was entered incorrectly. When the max. heating temperature has been briefly exceeded. Faulty heating element. Contact the Sartorius Service Center. 6.3 Calibration/Adjustment Error Messages Weight is too low. Weight is too high. Cal. data not saved. When a weight that is too light is placed during external calibration. When a weight that is too heavy is placed during external calibration. When the maintenance date set by the Sartorius Service Center has been exceeded. 6.5 USB Device Error Message The attached USB device is not supported. When a USB device (printer) that is not permitted by Sartorius has been connected. 24 YTM15MA Heating Adjustment Set

7. Care and Maintenance The adjustment disk has been calibrated according to a factory-internal test procedure. Keep the adjustment disk clean. Clean any soiling using water or a soft, lint-free cloth. Clean any coarse soiling using a brush. Do not use aggressive cleaning agents (solvents, etc.). The adjustment disk may not be scratched. Do not touch the adjustment disk with oily or greasy fingers, as this could falsify the measurement results. Ensure functional safety via regular inspection. The adjustment disk should be inspected annually if used frequently (> 1 /week). This inspection requires that you send the adjustment disk to Sartorius Service with the complete heating adjustment set. YTM15MA Heating Adjustment Set 25

8. Disposal Old Battery or PCB Batteries should not be disposed of as household waste. EU legislation requires its Member States to collect electrical and electronic parts and dispose of it separately from other unsorted municipal waste so that it may be recycled. Germany and several other countries have a return system or collection boxes for old batteries that conform to disposal regulations. In countries that are not members of the European Economic Area (EEA) or those without return systems or collection boxes, please contact your local authorities or a commercial disposal operator. Prior to disposal and/or scrapping of device PCBs, any batteries should be removed and disposed of in local collection boxes. 8.1 Battery Replacement If the battery installed in the GMH175 measuring device is discharged, then it must be replaced. The battery is dead when BAT appears on the display when the measuring device is switched on. 26 YTM15MA Heating Adjustment Set

Kalibrierung 5.
