Historie und Anlage History and site GEPFLASTERT Der befindet sich in der Frankfurter Innenstadt in unmittelbarer Nähe zur Hauptwache. Er geht an seinem nördlichen Ende in den Goetheplatz über und an diesen schliesst sich der Rathenauplatz an. Im Mittelalter war der ein Pferdemarkt. Später, im 17. und 18. Jahrhundert, diente er als öffentliche Richtstätte. Der Umbau wurde 2008 als Fläche mit Kleinpflaster aus Basalt von der Berliner Landschaftsarchitektin Gabriele Kiefer konzipiert. In zentraler Position steht das Gutenberg-Denkmal, das von Sitzstufen und Treppen U-förmig umgeben ist. Der Umbau wurde von Frankfurter Bürgern sehr kontrovers diskutiert. The Rossmarkt is located in Frankfurt s town centre in close proximity to the Hauptwache. It merges into the Goetheplatz (Goethe Square) at its northern corner, where it joins the Rathenauplatz (Rathenau Square). In the 17th and 18th centuries, the Rossmarkt served as a place of execution. Its renovation in 2008 was conceived as a paved area with small basalt cobblestones by the Berlin landscape architect Gabriele Kiefer. In its centre stands the Gutenberg Memorial, surrounded in a U-shape by seating steps and stairways. The reconstruction was a matter of heated debate among Frankfurt s residents. POI Stand: 24.
