2 1. General NOTE: As when installing any performance product, a certain amount of mechanical ability is required. If after reviewing the parts and instructions you don t feel that you can properly complete this installation, take your car to a competent professional. Proper installation will save time, money and aggravation. We recommend using this manual together with the applicable workshop manual for your car to help you with the installation. Please read the entire fi tting instructions before installing your new exhaust system. Requirements: - The CSP WASP muffl er is designed to be used on Type-1 engines with the CSP WASP header system. It is self-evident that the megaphone needs to be removed prior to the muffl er installation. - The CSP WASP muffl er systems are designed to be used on the Beetle or Karmann Ghias. We can not guarantee the use in any other application. Allgemein WICHTIG: Wie bei allen Fahrzeugteilen ist eine gewisse Sachkenntnis Voraussetzung für eine korrekte Montage. Wenn Sie nach Sichtung der Teile und der Montageanleitung nicht der Meinung sind die Montage durchführen zu können, wenden Sie sich an eine Fachwerkstatt um die Arbeiten ausführen zu lassen. Eine korrekte Montage und Einstellung spart Zeit, Kosten und Ärger. Wir empfehlen Ihnen, diese Anleitung zusammen mit einem Reparaturhandbuch für Ihr Fahrzeug einzusetzen. Voraussetzungen: - Der CSP WASP Schalldämpfer ist zur Verwendung an Typ 1 Motoren, mit CSP WASP Auspuffanlage vorgesehen. Bevor Sie mit der Installation der neuen CSP WASP Schalldämpferanlage beginnen muss selbstverständlich das CSP WASP Megaphone demontiert werden. - Die CSP WASP Schalldämpfer sind für die Montage am Käfer oder Karmann Ghia entwickelt. Eine Verwendbarkeit mit anderen Fahrzeugtypen ist nicht sichergestellt. Installation 2.1 Preparation - Remove WASP megaphone if installed and clean the mounting sleeve. CAUTION: The 9 mm hole in the tab welded to the collector sleeve needs to be enlarged to 11 mm on all WASP headers from the fi rst series. (see Fig. 1) 2. Einbau 2.1 Vorbereitungen - Demontieren Sie falls vorhanden das CSP WASP Megaphone und reinigen Sie den Fächerkrümmer an der Anschlussstelle. ACHTUNG: Bei den WASP Fächerkrümmern der ersten Serie muss das Loch am Kollektorausgang (siehe Fig. 1) von 9 mm auf 11 mm aufgebohrt werden. Ø11 mm Fig. 1 3

(Fig. 2 & Fig.3) - Apply some anti-seize copper compound on the collector end where the WASP muffl er will be attached. - Slide the rubber support onto the bracket at the end of the WASP Muffl er. See Fig. 4 for details. The spacers inside the rubber support will avoid any distortion of the brackets once the screws are tightened up. - Lösen Sie die Klemmschrauben am Kollektor und an den Haltelaschen der J-Rohre, so dass Sie leicht die Position des Kollektors verändern können. (Fig. 2 & Fig. 3) - Tragen Sie etwas Kupferpaste auf die Anschlussstelle auf. - Montieren Sie das Gummi und den Halter, wie in Fig. 4 gezeigt, am Schalldämpfer. Die Distanzhülsen werden dabei in das Gummi gesetzt um ein Verformen der Befestigungen beim Festziehen der Schrauben zu vermeiden. 2.2 Installing the muffler - Put the WASP muffl er on the mounted collector assembly. 2.2 Montage Schalldämpfer - Setzen Sie den Schalldämpfer auf dem bereits montierten Fächerkrümmer an der Anschlussstelle auf. hex screw M10x30 reinforcement bandclamp collector tab bandclamp reinforcement safety nut M10 Fig.4 Fig.5 4

5 - Make sure the collector mounting tab is centered between the WASP muffl e mounting strap. (Fig.5) NOTE: Secure the WASP muffl er to stop it rotate and falling off. - Mount the hex screw M10x30 and the two reinforcement plates as shown in Fig.5. Use the M10 safety nut to hold the assembly in place. Do not fully tighten the screws yet! - Check the alignment and adjust the assembly as required. Make sure the WASP muffl er has enough clearance between body or tire. NOTE: The bandclamp is welded to the muffl er input sleeve. Therefore the height of the muffl er can not be adjusted. If it is necessary to correct the vertical position you can use one of the procedures shown in Fig.6. By any of these methods you are able to either raise or lower the muffl er position. NOTE: If the collector is not positioned midpoint to the engine or body, check the alignment engine/body and/or engine width and tyre size. - Achten Sie darauf, dass sich die Haltelasche des Fächerkrümmers zwischen den Laschen der Klemmschelle des Schalldämpfers befi n- det. (Fig.5) ACHTUNG: Sichern Sie den Schalldämpfer so, dass er sich nicht nach unten drehen oder herunter fallen kann. - Montieren Sie die M10x30 Schraube mit den Verstärkungen und der Mutter wie in Fig.5 beschrieben. - Richten Sie den Schalldämpfer wie gewünscht aus. - Achten Sie beim Ausrichten darauf, dass der Schalldämpfer nicht den Reifen oder die Karosserie berührt. ANMERKUNG: Da die Bandschelle an dem Anschlussrohr fest verschweißt ist, kann die Höhe des Dämpfers nicht eingestellt werden. Sollte es notwendig sein, die vertikale Position des Schalldämpfers zu verändern, so verfahren Sie bitte wie in Fig.6 gezeigt. Hierdurch kann der Schalldämpfer jeweils in eine höhere oder eine tiefere Position gebracht werden. ACHTUNG: Es kann vorkommen, dass der Kollektor nicht in der Mitte des Motors oder der Karosserie hängt. 6 Beetle / Käfer Karmann Ghia Fig.7 Fig.8 - Now slightly tighten all the mounting hardware to fi x the WASP muffl er position. Do not fully tighten screws yet! - Slide the upper muffl er bracket onto the rubber support and use the second bracket to localize the ideal mounting position on the body. NOTE: Compare the different bracket variations for Beetle (Fig.7) and Karmann Ghia (Fig.8) application. CAUTION: Make sure the rubber support is under slight tension. The support is designed to hold half of the muffl er weight in operation. - Mark the mounting holes for drilling. - Drill the marked mounting holes by using a 8.5 mm drill bit. - Secure the body bracket in place by using the supplied M8x20 hex screws, matching washers and M8 safety nuts. - After the fi nal check of the collector and muffl er position you can fully tighten all mounting hardware. - Ziehen Sie nun alle Schrauben leicht an. - Setzen Sie die obere Schalldämpferaufhängung auf das Gummielement und fi nden Sie die passende Position für die Befestigung an der Karosserie. WICHTIG: Vergleichen Sie die unterschiedlichen Ausführungen beim Käfer (Fig.7) oder Karmann Ghia (Fig.8) ACHTUNG: Beachten Sie, dass das Gummielement leicht unter Spannung angebracht werden soll, um einen Teil des Gewichtes des Schalldämpfers aufzunehmen. - Markieren Sie die Position der Befestigungsbohrungen. - Bohren Sie nun die Befestigungslöcher in die Karosserie. - Schrauben Sie den Halter mit Hilfe der M8x20 Schrauben, Scheiben und Sicherungsmuttern M8 fest - Nachdem die Position des Kollektors und des Schalldämpfers erneut überprüft wurden, können alle Schraubverbindungen angezogen werden. 6
