2 So important are the Beethoven and Haydn collected editions that every music collection able to afford them has already entered its standing orders for these series. However, for those institutions not fortunate enough to have been able to purchase them when the first volumes were published, the situation worsens with each passing year, since the number of volumes issued steadily increases, and the cost of acquiring back volumes rises accordingly: the Beethoven edition has now published 35 music volumes plus 7 volumes of critical commentary with a total cost of $8,603.00; the Haydn edition has now published 92 principal volumes (in 101) and 41 separate volumes of critical appratus with a total cost of $24, To attract new standing orders for these editions, the publisher s American agent and Broude Brothers have combined to make back volumes available at a discount of 25% for institutions entering new standing orders for future volumes. This discount reduces the cost of back volumes substantially by $2, in the case of the Beethoven edition and by $6, in the case of the Haydn edition. The Beethoven has about a dozen volumes still to publish, the Haydn approximately fifteen. This promotion will continue through July 15, It provides an exceptional opportunity to acquire these essential editions. The conditions for taking advantage of this promotion are few and simple: Orders must be placed directly with Broude Brothers Musicology Department before July 15, New subscribers will be expected to accept delivery of all available back volumes when their subscriptions are entered and to accept all future volumes as they are issued. Institutions that have already acquired some volumes in sets for which they are entering new subscriptions may elect to receive only those back volumes that they do not already have, in which case the prices for back volumes will be adjusted accordingly. In order to allow institutions to be able to access funds from two budget years, this sale runs an unusually long time. During that time, new volumes may be issued, and current prices may change. The prices in effect when orders are placed may therefore differ from the prices listed here. Entering a standing order under the terms of this sale involves a serious commitment. Both Broude Brothers as a dealer and Henle as a publisher are making financial sacrifices to bring these publications within the means of libraries that would otherwise be unable to afford them, and we are asking new subscribers taking advantage of this offer to undertake not to cancel these standing orders except in cases of dire financial necessity, and not to transfer them to other vendors.
