Universities and technical institutes are now also putting out their feelers towards this unique instrument for home and building automation. Cooperation with the academic world is likely to be considerably intensified by the recently founded EIBA Scientific Partnership Forum. One important factor that explains the widespread enthusiasm is that a solid information base is meanwhile propagated worldwide over the Internet. The EIBA facts speak for themselves: More than 110 members and licensees More than 5000 certified products More than 5 million EIB nodes worldwide More than 7000 ETS licenses already sold More than 50 registered and/or certified training centres More than 30,000 users already trained More than 30,000 projects already completed More than 1000 EIB partners. Expectations are high The clear goals defined for the EIB and its phenomenal market successes have led to high expectations, not least regarding its convergence with the Batibus Club International (BCI) and the European Home System Association (EHSA), the two European associations concerned with installation bus systems. The advantages of the different systems can now be combined, releasing new potentials for markets and applications. Focusing on the customer This extended platform will lead to new business opportunities for all concerned from manufacturers, wholesalers and electricians to service providers. The focus is always on the customer. With a view to concentrating European energies and thus strengthening international competitive positions, the EIBA Management Board reached a clear verdict in favour of convergence at its last meeting. It is now up to us to exploit the opportunities opened up by convergence together. Success will prove how right we are. 5 NEW EIB PRODUCTS ISOMET AG Elektrotechnik Halogen-free bus cables ISOMET AG Elektrotechnik Halogenfreie Buskabel ISOMET AG Elektrotechnik Câbles bus sans halogène Isomet AG, based in Otelfingen in Switzerland, has recently developed shielded and unshielded EIB cables with dimensions of 2x2x0.80 mm and stranded in a star-quad arrangement. The application-specific background knowhow was provided by AZ Elektro AG in Zürich, a major supplier of electrical installation systems in the field of home and building automation. The wire colours are defined in accordance with the EIB recommendations: red (+ EIB), black (- EIB), yellow (+ 29 V, optionally + EIB), white (- 29 V, optionally - EIB). Conductor oxidation is to a large extent prevented by the tinned copper wires, the contact resistances of the sensors and actuators are low and a long service life is guaranteed. The type (ISOSAFE EIB), the number of wires and the cross-section are printed on the cables as recommended in the EIB Manual so that their identification complies in full with the requirements of DIN VDE The continuous metre markings on the halogen-free, flame-retardant cable sheath permits the time for measuring and cutting the cables to length to be shortened. The flame-retardant properties and the proof of freedom from halogen are in line with IEC and IEC The other tests and standards, and in particular the test voltage, capacitance, attenuation, etc., are in conformance with PTT , SEV NIN 49 ff and SEV info Die Isomet AG aus Otelfingen in der Schweiz entwickelte EIB-Leitungen der Abmessung 2x2x0,80 mm mit Verseilung im Sternvierer in geschirmter und ungeschirmter Ausführung. Die Aderfarben sind nach den EIB-Richtlinien definiert: rot (+ EIB), schwarz (- EIB), gelb (+ 29 V, optional + EIB), weiss (- 29 V, optional - EIB). Dank der verzinnten Kupferdrähte wird eine Oxidation der Leiter weitgehendst vermieden, die Übergangswiderstände bei den Aktoren und Sensoren sind gering und die Funktionalität bleibt langfristig erhalten. Mit dem Aufdruck des Typs (ISOSA- FE EIB), der Aderzahl und des Querschnitts wie im EIB-Handbuch ermpfohlen wird die Kennzeichnung nach DIN VDE voll erfüllt. Die fortlaufende Metrierung auf dem halogenfreien und flammwidrigen Kabelmantel verkürzt die Ausmeßzeit. Die Flammwidrigkeit und der Halogennachweis entsprechen den Normen IEC sowie IEC Die weiteren Prüfungen und Normen, speziell Prüfspannung, Kapazität, Dämpfung, etc. sind in Anlehnung an PTT , SEV NIN 49 ff bzw. Les couleurs des conducteurs sont definies selon les directives EIB: rouge (+ EIB), noir (- EIB), jaune (+ 29 V, additionnel + EIB), blanc (- 29 V, additionnel - EIB). Grâce aux fils de cuivre étamés, une oxydation des conducteurs peut largement être évitée, la résistance de transfert des capteurs et actionneurs reste infime et le fonctionnement conservé. Two processor systems are also available: Versions 1.2 and 2.0. Chips as an alternative to the bus coupling unit Für die Hersteller von EIB-Geräten standen bisher die Systemkomponenten BIM (Bus Interface in Module) und die allseits bekannten Busankopplungen zur Verfügung: die übertragerlose Version und die Ausführung mit symmetrischen Übertrager. Außerdem sind zwei Prozessorssysteme verfügbar: Versionen 1.2 und 2.0. 7 NEW EIB PRODUCTS by experience to date, a figure of around 30,000 chips per year and device type is required to make their use economically viable. TPUART for solutions with other processors A new chip the TPUART is currently undergoing development, to facilitate solutions with other processors (e.g. 8051). This chip consists of an analog section, which forms the interface to the EIB, and a digital section, which converts the bus telegrams into serial bit streams in accordance with the relevant UART recommendations. All standard processor types with the same interface can thus be connected to the UART interface of the chip. A C programme, which will allow manufacturers to design their own solutions, is already in preparation for controlling this interface. In order to ensure compliance with the electrical safety requirements (EIB uses SELV Safety Extra-Low Voltage), the only connection to the processor is via two cables and a software handshake. No components for reverse-voltage and EMC protection are integrated, so that the manufacturer can add them in a manner tailored to the intended product application. erhöhten Kosten für die Prüfungen, die für CE-Kennzeichnung und EIB-Zertifizierung erforderlich sind. TPUART für weitere Prozessoren Um Lösungen mit anderen Prozessoren (z. B. 8051) zu ermöglichen, ist derzeit ein neuer Chip in Entwicklung: der TPUART. Dieser besteht aus einem Analogteil, das die Schnittstelle zum EIB bereitstellt, und einem Digitalteil, das die Bustelegramme nach den gültigen UART-Richtlinien in serielle Bitströme umwandelt. Damit können an der UART-Schnittstelle des Chips alle gängigen Prozessoren mit gleicher Schnittstelle angeschlossen werden. Zur richtigen Bedienung dieser Schnittstelle ist derzeit ein C-Programm in Vorbereitung, das den Herstellern als Basis für die Entwicklung eigener Lösungen dienen soll. Zur Einhaltung der elektrischen Sicherheitsanforderungen (EIB ist Schutzkleinspannung SELV), wird der Prozessor nur über zwei Leitungen und Software-Handshake angeschlossen. Die Bauteile für Verpolungs- und EMV-Schutz sind nicht integriert, so daß der Hersteller diese maßgeschneidert auf den Anwendungsfall seines Produkts ergänzen kann. L expérience prouve que l utilisation de chips ne deviendra rentable qu à compter d un quota annuel d environ unités par type d appareil. TPUART pour de nouveau processeurs En vue d autoriser des solutions faisant appel à d autres processeurs (p. ex. 8051), une nouvelle puce se trouve actuellement en phase de développement : sa désignation est TPUART. Ce composant se compose d une partie analogique qui constitue l interface avec l EIB et d une partie numérique qui convertit conformément aux directives UART en vigueur les télégrammes du bus en courants binaires. Cela permet de raccorder sur l interface UART de la puce tous les processeurs conventionnels possédant la même interface. Un programme en C, qui servira aux constructeurs de base pour le développement de leurs solutions individuelles, est actuellement en cours de préparation. En vue de répondre aux exigences de sécurité électrique (EIB est à très basse tension de sécurité TBTS), le processeur n est relié que par deux lignes et un protocole de validation de transfert logiciel. Les composants servant à la protection contre les inversions de polarité et à la compatibilité électromagnétique ne sont pas intégrés, si bien que le constructeur a toute latitude de les compléter en fonction du cas d application de son produit. Especially when the EIB is used, mere status indications are not enough - customers also want to be able to intervene in the system directly. Since the additional technical effort necessary to visualize EIB systems is minimal, there is no reason to refuse such requests. Furthermore, effective visualization is a powerful sales argument in favour of the EIB. Elvis a visualization tool IT GmbH has added Elvis, a visualization tool, to its family of addons for the EIB. Elvis is coupled to the bus via ports. The ports convert the bus-specific addresses (the group addresses in the case of the EIB) into bus-neutral data points. The process server (Elvis kernel) is thus decoupled from the bus system. The operator terminals work with the data points provided by the server. The maximum number of bus ports, data points per port, graphics and pixels is limited solely by the capabilities of the PC. Vector-based graphics editor The vector-based graphics editor is a convenient means of designing graphics. It incorporates check elements for various switches, analog input devices (slide and rotary controls, edit fields), status indicators, analog and digital instruments, XY recorders and text elements. Besonders beim Einsatz des EIB sind nicht nur bloße Zustandsanzeigen, sondern auch der Eingriff in die Anlage gewünscht. Da der zusätzliche technische Aufwand für die Visualisierung bei EIB-Systemen sehr gering ist, drängt sie sich hier geradezu auf. Die gute Visualisierbarkeit ist andererseits auch ein wesentliches Verkaufsargument für den EIB. Elvis ein Werkzeug zur Visualisierung Die IT GmbH hat die Reihe ihrer EIB-Zusatzprodukte um Elvis, einem Werkzeug zur Visualisierung, erweitert. Elvis wird über Ports an den Bus gekoppelt. Der Port setzt die busspezifischen Adressen (beim EIB die Gruppenadressen) in busneutrale "Datenpunkte" um. Damit wird der Prozeßserver (das Kernstück von Elvis) vom Bussystem entkoppelt. Die Bedienstationen arbeiten mit den vom Server angebotenen Datenpunkten. Die Anzahl der Busports, der Datenpunkte pro Port, der Bilder und der Bildelemente wird nur durch den PC begrenzt. Vektorbasierter Grafikeditor Mit dem vektorbasierten Grafikeditor können Bilder komfortabel gestaltet werden. Kontrollelemente für verschiedene Schalter, Analogeingabe (Schieberegler, Drehregler, Editierfeld), Statusanzeige, Analoginstrumente, Digitalinstrumente, X/Y-Schreiber und Textelemente werden mitgeliefert. Zeitprogramme, Betriebsprotokoll, Alarmhandler und Benutzerverwaltung mit individueller Une visualisation de la GTB est, de nos jours, exigée même pour de petites installations. En conjugaison avec EIB notamment, on souhaite non seulement des affichages d état, mais aussi une possibilité d intervention dans l installation. Etant donné que les systèmes EIB remplissent implicitement les conditions techniques pour la visualisation, cette dernière s impose quasi logiquement. L excellente aptitude à la visualisation constitue d autre par un argument de vente de poids pour l EIB. Elvis un outil de visualisation La société IT GmbH a complété sa gamme de produits connexes EIB par Elvis, un outil de visualisation. Elvis se couple sur le bus au moyen de ports. Le port convertit les adresses bus spécifiques (dans le cas d EIB les adresses groupées) en points de données banalisés. Le serveur du process (l épine dorsale d Elvis) est ainsi découplé du bus. Elvis is network-capable, which means that distributed systems can be visualized as well. Monitoring, operation and even changes to the configuration can be carried out remotely anywhere in the world over the Internet. When an EIB is visualized with Elvis, all the relevant data can be taken directly from the ETS 2, the ETS 1.x and the designer (the tool for graphical EIB planning). One of the main development aims was to ensure that the different types of sun shield could all be controlled simultaneously. The network of shutters, vertical louvres and awnings can be parameterized individually by means of a light sensor and adapted in line with specific requirements. The reactions of the various sun shielding devices, window openings and roof domes to wind and rain are similarly programmable. It is also possible for the interior lighting to be adjusted automatically to the exterior lighting conditions. Inputs for sensors of all kinds Flexibility was a top development priority, which is why seven analog inputs are provided for sun shield control. The eighth (digital) input is reserved for the anemometer. Eingänge für Sensoren aller Art Flexibilität stand bei der Entwicklung an oberster Stelle, weswegen für die Sonnenschutzsteuerung sieben Analogeingänge vorgesehen sind. Der achte (digitale) Eingang ist speziell für den Windstärkemesser bestimmt. Als Sensoren (max. sieben) sind anschließbar: ein Regenwächter, ein Frostwächter, vier Sonnensensoren, ein Annemometer und ein Dämmerungssensor. The safety objects can be adapted to the type of sun shield. Predefined anemometer values are offered for the various awning and louvre-type shielding systems. If an automatic light/time programme is activated, the sun shield is lowered as soon as the limit value for the lighting level is reached and then raised again at a fixed time in the evening. Since the safety objects influence the system directly, they cause the sun shield to be raised instantly, for example, if a storm blows up. KG has developed an alternative solution for integration in preassembled equipment: the Data Interface Module (DIM). The Data Interface Module isolates the electrical components of the EIB from the application circuit by means of a transformer that has an insulation voltage of 4000 V between the primary and secondary sides. The large number of complex optocouplers used to isolate the data lines in certain application circuits can thus be dispensed with. The essential difference between the Data Interface Module and the existing bus couplers is that the EIB is only used to obtain data, while energy is drawn from the power supply of the application (+5 V). Data communication between the EIB stations is handled by the Data Interface Module. The signal voltages and levels on the EIB are fixed. It is also vital to take account of the requirements of the CSMA/CA bus access method no problem for the Data Interface Module. INSTA has developed communication software for the EIB that supports the Data Interface Module. It has now been implemented for the first time with a Motorola microcontroller. The software consists of an EIB part and an application part. 13 NEW EIB PRODUCTS Block diagram of the Data Interface Module (DIM) EIB W Tronic transformer Another successful application of the Data Interface Module is the EIB W electronic transformer, which is used to control low-voltage halogen lamps. As a competent partner of the luminaire industry, INSTA develops, manufactures and supplies electronic transformers for this type of lamp. If low-voltage luminaires are controlled with the EIB, the electronic transformers are driven by the output voltage of controllers, which are still required to have a bus connection. Generalized phase-control dimmers and control units for 1 V to 10 V are typical of the products used for this purpose. Both the EIB controller and the electronic transformer are thus needed to convert EIB telegrams to brightness values a very expensive method. If the bus connection is integrated in the electronic transformer, the EIB controller can be dispensed with, making the whole process much more economical, particularly for installations in private homes. Sophisticated lighting systems tend to lead people to expect lighting scenarios which at present are still only possible using additional bus couplers with special software as storage devices. The Tronic EIB transformer can store up to eight lighting scenarios with programmable values for customers who do not wish to forego this luxury. Beim EIB müssen heute zur Steuerung von Niedervoltleuchten noch immer Steuergeräte mit Busanschluß eingesetzt werden, die mit ihrer Ausgangsspannung die elektronischen Transformatoren ansteuern. Typische Produkte dieser Art sind Phasenabschnittsdimmer und Steuereinheiten für 1 V bis 10 V. Die Umsetzung eines EIB-Telegramms in einen Helligkeitswert erfolgt somit über die beiden Geräte EIB-Steuergerät und elektronischer Transformator und ist damit sehr kostenintensiv. Durch die Integration des Busanschlusses in den elektronischen Transformator entfällt das EIB-Steuergerät und führt damit auch zu kostengünstigen Lösungen insbesondere im Heimbereich. In komfortablen Beleuchtungen besteht häufig der Wunsch nach Lichtszenen, für die heute zusätzliche Busankoppler mit entsprechender Software als Speicher benötigt werden. Für diese Anwendungen hält der Tronic Transformator EIB den Speicher für acht Lichtszenen bereit, der mit Werten beschrieben und gelesen werden kann. This connection is designed as if the two bus systems were to be connected via another bus line with two couplers. The connection is set up and cleared down automatically. The criterion for clearing down the connection is an absence of bus telegrams. This enables automatic routers and demand dial connections to be used. The visualization function enables EIB actuators, sensors and macros to be represented on the display in the form of icons, which indicate their status online. Voice signals which are linked to defined events can be broadcast over loudspeakers installed at different points in the building. Self-learning macros can be used to generate complex lighting sequences or in conjunction with a random timer create the impression of an occupied house. Up to 9999 seven-day switching programmes that even take account of public holidays can be defined using timers. The user can change the times of these devices or switch the timers on and off via the television set, the monitor or the remote-control PC. The Gira HomeServer also includes an integrated answering machine, the recorded voice messages of which can be displayed on the television screen or the monitor in the form of a caller list. Underneath the roof is a maze of transmission systems, with long belts that still power old machines from the fan used for the smith s fire to the pile-driver. In the air hangs a smell of smoke and the red-hot iron that is worked on the anvil. Water trickles into the trench at the bottom of the mighty water wheels. A few old carbon-filament lamps provide a dim light. This is the scene at the Bremecker Hammer Smithy Museum not far from Lüdenscheid, a town on the fringe of Germany s old industrial heartland on the River Ruhr. All structural alterations to this old, listed building are prohibited, and that includes the electrical wiring system. Nevertheless, it was the wish of Mr. Binczyk, who looks after the museum and conducts guided tours, that only those objects he is in the process of explaining or demonstrating should actually be illuminated. Our task was to find a solution that did not entail installing completely new electrics. In der Luft liegt ein Geruch von Rauch und glühendem Eisen, das auf dem Amboß bearbeitet wird. Neben mächtigen Wasserrädern plätschert etwas Wasser in den Untergraben. Einige alte Kohlefadenlampen geben spärliches Licht. Wir sind im Schmiedemuseum Bremecker Hammer in der Nähe von Lüdenscheid. In dem unter Denkmalschutz stehenden alten Gebäude sind bauliche Änderungen nicht möglich, was auch auf die elektrische Installation zutrifft. Trotzdem war es der Wunsch von Herrn Binczyk, der das Museum pflegt und die Führungen übernimmt, immer nur die Objekte zu beleuchten, die er gerade erklärt oder vorführt. Il n est pas autorisé de modifier la construction du vieux bâtiment classé monument historique, et cela s applique également à l installation électrique. Pourtant, Monsieur Binczyk, qui entretient le musée et guide les visites, souhaitait éclairer ponctuellement les objets sur lesquels il donne des explications ou effectue une démonstration. Et comment y parvenir sans une nouvelle installation? Une technique ultramoderne utilisant de vieilles lignes On dispose de 230 V : deux fils dénudés, fixés proprement à une distance de quelques centimètres l un de l autre avec des isolateurs en porcelaine aux poutres du plafond. Powernet EIB se contente également de ces lignes (de bus). Le télégramme EIB est injecté sur le réseau 230 V via le récepteur IR Powernet EIB.
