2 You are advised to spend 45 minutes answering the questions in this booklet. QUESTION ONE: Penfriends Two German students have written to an international teenage magazine asking for penfriends. In their letters, they say where they live and something about their lives. Details about the teenagers will go into the magazine s penfriend database. Read the letters on pages 3 and 4 and complete the database forms that follow, in English, in the spaces provided. Your answers must be based on the information you read. You will be rewarded for providing: all the information requested detailed answers.
3 Part A: Melanie (16 Jahre) Glossary: die Clique group of close friends Hallo, ich heiße Melanie. Melanie Complete this form: Name: Melanie Age: 16 (a) (b) Lives in: Favourite meeting place: Favourite leisure activities: (c) (d) (e) Sports: Age preference for penfriends: Gender preference for penfriends: Other preference: (f) Reason:
Tschüss Patrick Complete this form: Name: Patrick Age: 15 (g) Lives in: (h) Favourite meeting places: Favourite leisure activities: (i) (j) (k) Team sports: Age preference for penfriends: Gender preference for penfriends: (l) Other preference:
5 QUESTION TWO: Mealtimes in Germany and New Zealand Sandra and Holger are both students from Germany. In the following extracts, they have written about some of their experiences with food, either at home in Germany or away from home in New Zealand. Read the extracts on pages 6 and 7, and answer the questions that follow, in English, in the spaces provided. Your answers must be based on the information you read. You will be rewarded for providing: all the information requested detailed answers. Illustrations pp 2, 5, Rogelio Carles-Rosas
6 Part A: Sandra Sandra explains what her family would normally eat in Germany. (a) What does Sandra s father do before breakfast? (b) What do the family put on their rolls? (c) Describe the midday meal. Give details. (d) What does the family drink with their evening meal? Explain why.
7 Part B: Holger Holger has returned to Germany from New Zealand. He writes about his meal experiences with his New Zealand host family. (e) In what way was Holger s breakfast in New Zealand different from his breakfast at home? (f) Why did he drink tea in New Zealand? (g) What did he say about New Zealand bread? (h) What did he say about the evening meal? Give details.
8 Extra paper for continuation of answers if required. Clearly number the question. Question number
