2 Swiss Tunnel Congress 2016 A Warm Welcome The Swiss Tunnelling Society (STS) hosts the annual Swiss Tunnel Congress (STC) in the Lucerne Culture and Convention Centre (KKL Lucerne). In recent years this congress, which originally developed from the AlpTransit Conferences, has become a leading event for tunnelling engineers. Over the previous year s 800 participants from 12 countries attended the congress. The congress includes high level presentations and the traditional excursions to major construction sites in Switzerland. It endeavours to maintain a high quality of presentation. The STC has secured its fixed place in the calendar of the tunnelling engineer. Even if at present times have become quite difficult for the tunnelling engineer, especially for those involved in construction, it is still important, or today perhaps even more important, to take advantage of this platform for clients, planners, engineers, suppliers, service providers, contractors and the tunnelling industry. The STC offers a welcome opportunity of learning at first hand about new developments in selected tunnel projects both in Switzerland and other countries and it also provides an excellent chance to meet people and consolidate existing contacts. The programme begins as usual on Wednesday afternoon with the Swiss Tunnel Colloquium, which is devoted to the theme «Fire and Safety», a theme that is omnipresent in the media and is as topical as ever, especially in view of the controversial safety discussions on the renewal of the first Gotthard road tunnel and the construction of a second single tube tunnel through the Gotthard Massif. We look forward with keen interest to the introductory lecture by the former member of the Swiss Federal Council; he is well known as an incisive and brilliant speaker. The morning of the Congress day is devoted to international projects. In the afternoon, an interesting line-up of current projects in Switzerland shows that the activity is still in full-flow, even if compared with the flourishing period of the past years, these are on a smaller scale. Currently, in the whole of Switzerland people are asking themselves if we are a nation of tunnelling engineers, whether we were born like that or are there other reasons why today so much is spoken and written about tunnelling. In view of the scope of the projects presented in the newspapers this is a justified question, with the new tunnel system Altstetten-Rupperswil on the one hand, and the Cargo Souterrain, on the other, up to the Grimsel tunnel. The latter will eliminate the high voltage overhead line and provide at the same time a connection between the Bernese Oberland and the region of Goms, of great importance for tourism. These are currently some of the ambitious and farsighted ideas and projects. They are quite in unison with the motto of the WTC 2013 in Geneva: «Underground the way to the future». Thus there are still visions for the future! Friday as usual is reserved for excursions. 3 Swiss Tunnel Colloquium 2016 Colloquium Programme, 15 June 2016 The theme «Fire and Safety» for rail and road tunnels is very extensive and manysided. In this year s colloquium the emphasis is on the fire event and the escape route. To start with the subject is reviewed from the perspective of the Federal Office of Transport (FOT), the licensing authority. Aspects from the planning and design of the ventilation system in a critical event lay the foundation for the important structures, such as escape doors and lighting on the escape route. How does one create optimal conditions for people who are fleeing for their lives? How do the rescue teams deal with these requirements in practice? Lecturers from the vantage points of the licensing authority, the owner, planning, industry, training of the rescue teams and the Gotthard road tunnel s emergency fire service will answer these questions in step with current practice. 6 Swiss Tunnel Excursions 2016 Site Visit, 17 June 2016 The Swiss Tunnelling Society organises annually the Swiss Tunnel Congress held in the Lucerne Culture and Convention Centre, with excursions on the following day. This year the participants can choose from the following four excursions: A) Alptransit Ceneri Base Tunnel Sigirino (TI) B) A9 Visp Tunnel (VS) C) Belchen Tunnel (SO/BL) D) Car parking for the castle area in Thun (BE) C) Belchentunnel Baden- Württemberg Luzern A) AlpTransit Ceneri Base Tunnel Sigirino (TI) Visit to the installations both above ground, especially the material handling and final storage place, and also below ground. From the intermediate attack Sigirino a minibus takes us into the tunnel and then we can explore on foot one of the two main tunnel drives. Following this, we will visit the construction site in the Portal Area South (Vezia). With a length of 15.4 km between the North Portal Vigana near Camorino and the South Portal in Vezia, after the Gotthard Base Tunnel, the Ceneri Base Tunnel is the second largest tunnel project in Switzerland Meeting point at the Inseli car park (behind the KKL Lucerne) Departure Lucerne (bus) Arrival at the ATG construction site in Sigirino. Construction site visit in 2 groups (each of 25 persons) by minibus Lunch in the local construction works canteen in Sigirino Depart by bus to the portal construction site Vezia Arrival at construction site and site visit Return to Lucerne. 7 Swiss Tunnel Excursions 2016 B) A9 Construction site of Visp Tunnel The tunnelling work for the Visp Tunnel has already started. Together with the Eyholz Tunnel, the Visp Tunnel is part of the southern bypass of the planned motorway A9 in the region of Visp. Site Visit, 17 June 2016 C) Belchen Tunnel (SO/BL) The 3.2 km long auxiliary tunnel Belchen (RTB), part of the motorway A2, crosses the Jura mountains between Basle and Egerkingen. The stretch of mountain to be driven through consists to a large extent of swelling rock, i.e. Gypsum-Keuper and Opalinus Clay. The existing twin tube two-lane tunnels were completed in 1970, with separated direction of travel. Rehabilitation is now urgent. The purpose of the auxiliary tunnel Belchen, which is already under construction, is to alleviate the traffic restrictions resulting from the rehabilitation work. 8 Site Visit, 17 June 2016 Organisation D) Car parking for the castle area in Thun (BE) In the Schlossberg (Castle Hill) in Thun work will be in progress until Autumn 2018 on the Parking City East Schlossberg project. Using the top-down underground construction method the structure, with eight mezzanine floors, is free of intermediate supports and it will provide 300 parking spaces. The excavation work for the two cavern calotte-shaped roofs has been in progress since the beginning of this year. 18 Swiss Tunnel Congress 2016 Herzlich willkommen Die Fachgruppe für Untertagebau / Swiss Tunnelling Society veranstaltet jährlich im KKL Luzern den Swiss Tunnel Congress. Der Anlass hat sich in den letzten Jahren zum führenden Kongress für die Tunnelbaufachleute in der Schweiz entwickelt. Entstanden ist der Kongress ursprünglich aus den AlpTransit Tagungen. In früheren Jahren haben sich über 800 Fachleute aus 12 Nationen eingefunden und den qualitativ hochstehenden Referaten beigewohnt. Daneben fanden traditionell Exkursionen zu grossen Tunnelbaustellen statt. Der STC 2016 wird durch das Ressort Swiss Tunnel Congress des Vorstandes der Fachgruppe für Untertagbau / Swiss Tunnelling Society organisiert: Luzi R. Gruber, Dipl. Ing. Male den jährlichen Swiss Tunnel Congress (STC) im Kultur und Kongresszentrum Luzern durch, im grossen Konzertsaal, dem Prunkstück des KKL. Der STC hat sich einen festen Platz im Kalender der Tunnelbauer gesichert. Auch wenn die Zeiten für die Tunnelbauer, insbesondere für die Ausführenden härter geworden sind, ist es nach wie vor wichtig oder heute vielleicht noch wichtiger, die Plattform für Bauherren, Planer, Ingenieure, Lieferanten, Dienstleister, Unternehmer und die Industrie zu nutzen. Der STC bietet eine willkommene Gelegenheit, Neuigkeiten von auserwählten Tunnelprojekten aus dem In- und Ausland aus erster Hand zu erfahren und er bietet eine hervorragende Gelegenheit, persönliche Kontakte zu vertiefen. Das Programm beginnt wie gewohnt am Mittwochnachmittag mit dem Swiss Tunnel Colloquium, welches dem Thema «Fire and Safety» gewidmet ist. Ein Thema, das omnipräsent in den Medien ist und angesichts der kontroversen Sicherheitsdiskussionen um die Sanierung der ersten Röhre und den Bau des zweiten Einspurtunnels am Gotthard aktueller ist denn je. Wir dürfen gespannt sein auf das Einführungsreferat von Alt-Bundesrat Moritz Leuenberger, er ist ja als pointierter und brillianter Redner bekannt freuen wir uns darauf. Der Vormittag des Kongresstages ist den internationalen Projekten gewidmet, sei es aus unserer unmittelbaren Nachbarschaft und Schweden bis hin zu Panama und Peru. Wie üblich beim STC, sind es handverlesene Perlen des Tunnelbaus, mehrheitlich mit Beteiligung von Schweizer Know-how. Eine interessante Palette von laufenden Projekten aus der Schweiz zeigt am Nachmittag, dass die Aktivitäten in unserem Lande nach wie vor voll im Gange sind, wenn auch, verglichen mit der NEAT Blüte, auf niedrigerem Niveau. Aktuell frägt sich die ganze Schweiz, ob wir ein Volk von Tunnelbauern seien, ob uns das in die Wiege gelegt wurde oder ob es andere Gründe gibt, warum aktuell so viel von Tunnelbau geredet und geschrieben wird. Angesichts der Projekte, welche in der Presse vorgestellt wurden ist die Frage berechtigt. Neues Tunnelsystem Altstetten-Rupperswil einerseits, Cargo Souterrain andererseits, bis hin zum Grimseltunnel. Dieser eliminiert die Hochspanungs-Freileitung und stellt gleichzeitig eine touristische Verbindung des Berner Oberlandes mit dem Goms dar. Das sind aktuelle weitsichtige Ideen und Projekte. Ganz nach dem Motto unseres WTC 2013 in Genf: "Underground the way to the future!" Es gibt also noch Visionen. Der Freitag ist dann den Exkursionen vorbehalten. 19 Swiss Tunnel Colloquium 2016 Tagungsprogramm 15. Juni 2016 Das Thema «Fire and Safety» für Bahn- und Strassentunnels ist sehr umfangreich und vielseitig. Am diesjährigen Colloquium stellen wir das Brandereignis und den Fluchtweg ins Zentrum. Den Auftakt macht das Referat aus der Sicht der Bewilligungsbehörde BAV, Bundesamt für Verkehr. Aspekte aus der Projektierung der Ereignislüftung legen die Grundlagen für die wichtigen Einbauten, wie Fluchttüren und Fluchtwegbeleuchtung auf dem Rettungsweg. 22 Swiss Tunnel Exkursionen 2016 Baustellenbesichtigung 17. Juni 2016 Die Fachgruppe für Untertagbau / Swiss Tunnelling Society veranstaltet jährlich im KKL Luzern den Swiss Tunnel Congress mit Exkursionen am Folgetag. Dieses Jahr können die Teilnehmer unter vier Exkursionen auswählen: A) AlpTransit Ceneri Basistunnel Sigirino (TI) B) A9-Baustellen Tunnel Visp (VS) C) Belchentunnel (SO/BL) D) Schlossparking Thun (BE) C) Belchentunnel Baden- Württemberg Luzern A) AlpTransit Ceneri Basistunnel Sigirino (TI) Besichtigung der Installationen sowohl über Tag, insbesondere Materialbewirtschaftung und Endlager, wie auch Untertag. Vom Zwischenangriff Sigirino fahren Sie mit einem Kleinbus in den Tunnel und erkunden zu Fuss die Untertagbaustellen (Innenausbau, Rohbauausrüstung). Anschliessend erfolgt die Besichtigung der Baustelle im Portalbereich Süd (Vezia). Mit einer Länge von 15,4 km zwischen dem Nordportal Vigana bei Camorino und dem Südportal in Vezia ist der Ceneri-Basistunnel nach dem Gotthard-Basistunnel das zweitgrösste aktuelle Tunnelprojekt in der Schweiz Besammlung beim Carparkplatz Inseli (hinter KKL Luzern) Abfahrt in Luzern (Bus) Ankunft auf der ATG-Baustelle in Sigirino, Baustellenbesichtigung in 2 Gruppen (je 25 Personen) mit Minibus Mittagessen in der Kantine des Baustellendorfes in Sigirino Abfahrt mit Minibus zur Portalbaustelle Vezia Ankunft Baustelle Vezia und Besuch Rückfahrt nach Luzern, Transport an Bahnhof Bellinzona bei Bedarf ca. Ankunft beim Carparkplatz Inseli (hinter KKL Luzern) Schutzkleider, Stiefel und Helme stehen zur Verfügung. 23 Baustellenbesichtigung 17. Juni 2016 B) A9 Tunnel Visp (VS) Die Vortriebsarbeiten im Tunnel Visp sind bereits weit fortgeschritten. Zurzeit wird der Werkleitungskanal ausgebrochen. Der Tunnel Visp bildet zusammen mit dem Tunnel Eyholz die Südumfahrung der künftigen Autobahn A9 im Raum Visp. Mit diesem Meilenstein ist die Realisierung der Visper Südumfahrung auf gutem Wege Besammlung im Bahnhof Luzern (voraussichtlich Gleis 8) Abfahrt SBB ab Luzern mit dem Zug durch den Lötschberg-Basistunnel Ankunft Visp SBB Transport mit Postauto zur Baustelle Begrüssung, Kaffee, Projektvorstellung Baustellen-Besichtigung Mittagessen Transport mit Postauto zum Bahnhof SBB ab Visp Luzern an Schutzkleider, Stiefel und Helme stehen zur Verfügung. Juni 2016 C) Belchentunnel (SO/BL) Der 3,2 km lange Sanierungstunnel Belchen (STB) der A2 quert das Juragebirge zwischen Basel und Egerkingen. Die aufzufahrende Strecke weist einen grossen Anteil von quellhaften Gesteinen wie Gipskeuper und Opalinuston auf. Eine Sanierung der beiden bestehenden, richtungsgetrennten Doppelspurröhren aus dem Jahr 1970 ist dringend notwendig. Um die damit verbundenen Verkehrseinschränkungen möglichst gering zu halten, wird der Sanierungstunnel Belchen aktuell realisiert. Die Hauptarbeiten für den STB wurden im September 2014 gestartet, der Vortrieb des STBs wurde mit der 14 m Durchmesser grossen Tunnelbohrmaschine im Februar 2016 begonnen Besammlung beim Carparkplatz Inseli (hinter KKL Luzern) Abfahrt in Luzern (Bus) Ankunft Infocenter Belchen, Portal Hägendorf Projektvorstellung und Besichtigung der Baustelle (in Gruppen) ca. Mittagessen Rückfahrt mit dem Bus nach Luzern ca. Ankunft in Luzern Schutzkleider, Stiefel und Helme stehen auf der Baustelle zur Verfügung.
