Regulations governing the bachelor's degree programmes in Betriebsökonomie, Business Administration, Wirtschaftsinformatik and Business Information Technology at the FHNW School of Business, part of the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW) (Translation and adaptation of the following document in German: 'Studienreglement der Bachelorstudiengänge Betriebsökonomie, Business Administration, Wirtschaftsinformatik und Business Information Technology an der Hochschule für Wirtschaft Fachhochschule Nordwestschweiz (FHNW), ) Pursuant to the Framework Regulations governing programmes at the FHNW in the area of education dated 2 February 2015, the Framework Regulations governing limitations on the availability of places in the programmes (bachelor s/master s degrees) at the FHNW dated 12 December 2011, and the Study Regulations governing bachelor s and master s degrees at the FHNW School of Business, the Director of the FHNW School of Business hereby approves these Programme Regulations issued by the Head of Education of the FHNW School of Business. Part 1: Programme-specific regulations 1 Scope 1 These Programme Regulations supplement the Study Regulations by governing the following aspects of the bachelor's degree programmes at the FHNW School of Business ( 2 para 2 StuPO HSW FHNW 2015): a. Admission to and conduct of the entrance examination b. The requisite level of linguistic competence ( 4 StuPO HSW FHNW) c. Evidence of professional activity for students in employment attending on a part-time basis ( 5 StuPO HSW FHNW) d. English key words relating to the grades ( 21 para 6 StuPO HSW FHNW) e. Requirements for graduating from the degree programme ( 25 StuPO HSW FHNW) In addition, 3 sets out details in respect of evidence of professional experience. The module lists for the bachelor's degree programmes may be found in the annex to these Programme Regulations. 2 These Programme Regulations apply to all bachelor's degree programmes offered by the FHNW School of Business, with the exception of the trinational programme in International Business Management. 2 2 Entrance exam Admission Pass criteria Contents In respect of applicants unable to provide evidence of holding a Swiss vocational, professional or gymnasial baccalaureate, the Head of Programme may make the decision to admit dependent on obtaining a pass at the entrance exam. This applies in particular to previous education/training obtained abroad at a level equivalent to the Swiss Secondary Education Level II. Pursuant to a decision by the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SBFI formerly BTT), holders of a Swiss Federal Certificate of Competence and those graduating from a Swiss Fachmittelschule without a professional baccalaureate are not eligible for the entrance exam, but must first obtain the relevant vocational or professional baccalaureate. Admission to the entrance exam requires completion of at least three years of Secondary Education Level II. The entrance exam is deemed passed if the average grade obtained is 4.0 or higher. The grade obtained in subjects where applicants sit both a written and an oral test is an arithmetical average of the two marks rounded to the nearest tenth of a mark (commercial rounding rule). The subjects, types and duration of the tests that constitute the admission examination are as follows: Subject Written test Oral test 1. German Communication 90 min English 90 min. 15 min. 3. French 90 min. 15 min. 4. Mathematics 90 min Accountancy 90 min. - Exceptions The Head of Programme can excuse applicants whose schooling has predominantly taken place outside Switzerland from sitting the French section of the entrance exam, provided that a written test in General Business Studies of 120 minutes in duration is passed instead. Applicants applying for a programme instructed in English may, on request, be excused from the German Communication section of the entrance exam. The request must be submitted in good time before the date of the exam and does not excuse the applicant from his/her obligation to sit the rest of the exam. In this event, calculation of the grade for the entrance examination is based on tests 2 to 5. Any resulting admission then applies exclusively to programmes instructed in English. In this case, any ensuing transfer to a different programme is conditional upon passing the relevant assessment stage in the English-language programme. If not passed the first time, the entrance exam can be re-taken once. 3 Details in respect of evidence of professional experience Vocational and profes- 1 Evidence must be provided of a minimum of one year of professional experience following the baccalaureate and prior to the first semester. Page 2 of 6 Valid from: 1 September 2015 FHNW

2 Possible exceptions are as follows: sional baccalaureate Evidencebased admission a. Holders of a vocational baccalaureate with evidence of having received training of a commercial nature during or prior to their studies are excused from having to provide evidence of professional experience and can gain admittance to a programme immediately following their vocational baccalaureate. b. Holders of a business-oriented professional baccalaureate completing a commercially oriented work placement as part of their baccalaureate studies are entitled to have this placement, completed after graduating from a Swiss Fachmittelschule, count towards the requisite professional experience. In the event of an evidence-based admission, it is a matter for the Head of Programme whether and to what extent evidence of professional experience is required. If no evidence of professional experience is forthcoming at the time of the decision on admission, yet there are good grounds for believing that such evidence will be forthcoming to the extent required, the decision can be taken and a place reserved on the programme. Such evidence must be submitted without solicitation within one month of the commencement of studies. Failure to provide the said evidence after expiry of a reasonable period of grace constitutes a serious breach of obligations under 30 StuPO HSW FHNW 2015 and leads to immediate exclusion. 4 Linguistic competence German English The decision to study toward a degree in Betriebsökonomie or Wirtschaftsinformatik presupposes adequate linguistic competence in German. The decision to study toward a degree in Business Administration or Business Information Technology presupposes adequate linguistic competence in English. The requisite level of linguistic competence is B2 under the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). As a rule, the linguistic competence of a candidate whose mother tongue is not German is assessed during an interview conducted by the Head of Programme or a person appointed by him/her. Should the linguistic competence be deemed inadequate, the candidate can be asked to provide formal evidence. Taking each case on its merits, this formal evidence can be furnished prior to the commencement of studies or during the course of the first semester as determined by the Head of Programme. Failure to provide the said evidence after expiry of a reasonable period of grace constitutes a serious breach of obligations under 30 StuPO HSW FHNW and leads to immediate exclusion. 5 Evidence of professional activity 1 Studies undertaken on a part-time basis parallel to professional activity or responsibilities as a carer are predicated on such activity being in the order of at least 50 percent. Page 3 of 6 Valid from: 1 September 2015 FHNW

2 The nature of the professional activity must be relevant to the chosen course of study. It is for the Head of Programme to decide the relevance. 6 English key words relating to the grades 1 The key words attached to the 6-point grading scale are as follows: German English hervorragend excellent 5.5 sehr gut very good 5.0 gut good 4.5 befriedigend satisfactory 4.0 genügend pass 3.0 ungenügend fail 2.0 schlecht fail 1.0 sehr schlecht fail. In the binary grading scale, the equivalent in English of "erfüllt" is "pass", and that of "nicht-erfüllt" is "fail". 7 Requirements for graduating from the degree programme Germanlanguage programmes 1 2 The programmes in Betriebsökonomie or Wirtschaftsinformatik come to a successful conclusion at the FHNW when: a. All compulsory and elective compulsory modules have been passed (or recognised, if judged to be of equal value), thereby earning the student a total of 180 ECTS credits, and b. A minimum of 60 of these ECTS credits (including those of the bachelor's thesis) have been earned at the FHNW, and c. The bachelor's thesis has been submitted at the FHNW and has been awarded a grade of 4.0 or higher. On successful completion of the programme, students are awarded the degree of Bachelor of Science FHNW in Betriebsökonomie or Bachelor of Science FHNW in Wirtschaftsinformatik. If the student also completed a major / extended major, this is indicated on the degree scroll. Page 4 of 6 Valid from: 1 September 2015 FHNW

Englishlanguage programmes List of modules Assessment stage Bachelor's thesis Students passing or credited with all the compulsory and elective compulsory modules of the programme in Business Administration and meeting the following conditions in addition to those in paragraph 1 are awarded the degree of Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with the endorsement "International Management": a. In line with the learning agreement, at least one semester must have been spent abroad unless special dispensation was obtained from the Head of Programme, e.g. where the student is in employment and attending on a part-time basis. b. At least 129 qualifying ECTS credits have been acquired in modules taught in English. c. All student assignments, including the bachelor's thesis, have been successfully completed in English. Students passing or credited with all the compulsory and elective compulsory modules of the programme in Business Information Technology and meeting the following conditions in addition to those in paragraph 1 are awarded the degree of Bachelor of Science in Business Information Technology: a. At least 120 qualifying ECTS credits have been acquired in modules taught in English. b. All student assignments, including the bachelor's thesis, have been successfully completed in English. The compulsory subjects and criteria for fulfilling the elective compulsory subjects are contained in the accompanying list of modules. If the list of modules is changed, and with it the requirements for successfully completing the programme, the new list applies to all students. It is a matter for the Heads of Programme whether to apply transitional provisions should the change to the new requirements constitute an unreasonable burden. Heads of Programme are also authorised to organise tailored curricula for students experiencing hardship as a result of changes to the list of modules. This is of particular application in the case of students who have been studying for a long time (due to breaks in studies and/or module re-takes) and for whom a change to the list would mean a further extension to their studies. The programmes in Betriebsökonomie and Business Administration are composed of an assessment stage and a specialisation stage. To complete the assessment stage, students must pass all the assessment modules within one academic year. The assessment modules are identified as such in the list of modules and are compulsory. The bachelor's thesis is a compulsory module, wherein students demonstrate their ability to reflect on a specific assignment in a scholarly manner and solve it autonomously within a set period of time in a way that is theoretically correct and practically sound. 140 ECTS credits or more earned during the corresponding programme are required for admittance to the bachelor's thesis module. The Head of Programme has discretion in this matter. 11 Prior to commencement of the bachelor's thesis, details on the following are issued in writing: Page 5 of 6 Valid from: 1 September 2015 FHNW

a. The procedure relating to the choice of assignment. b. The deadlines relating to the assignment and submission of the thesis. c. The assessment criteria. d. The lecturers and external specialists marking the thesis. The assignments of the individual students and the issuing and submission of the bachelor's thesis are put on record. When submitting the bachelor's thesis, students are required to confirm in writing that it was completed autonomously using only the sources, tools and assistance stated in the thesis, and that quotes are readily identifiable as such. The bachelor's thesis is marked by the supervising lecturers, taking into account the assessment of the client. A bachelor's thesis submitted late or deemed to be plagiarised will be awarded grade 1.0. Separate guidance on this is available. If a bachelor's thesis is awarded a grade below 4.0, a new thesis featuring a new assignment can be written, but only once. If the bachelor's thesis receives the grade FX, a single attempt can be made to improve it, or a new thesis featuring a new assignment can be written, but only once. Part 2: Final and transitional provision 8 Wildcard rule The "wildcard rule" currently in force continues to apply. Under the wildcard rule, students are entitled to repeat one, and only one, module in the main part of the programme on request this in addition to the module repeats defined in 21 para 12. Requests of this nature should be submitted to the Heads of Programme. 9 Entry into force These Programme Regulations take effect on 1 September Bond on the German regulations governing issued by the Director 1 September 2015 Page 6 of 6 Valid from: 1 September 2015 FHNW
