Targeted and evidence-based prevention for local realities and priority populations is key to success. Effective prevention means cost-effective investments with long-term benefits.

4 EU Health Program: Improvement of HIV Prevention in Europe Use quality assurance and quality improvement (QA/QI) to improve the effectiveness of HIV prevention. Improve the effectiveness of prevention to help reduce the number of new HIV infections. Enhance HIV prevention efforts by using QA/QI to address the role of stigma and discrimination.

5 What do we mean by QUALITY in HIV prevention? Quality: Achieving positive health outcomes in a manner consistent with the best available evidence, knowledge and standards. Quality Assurance (QA) monitors the quality of services and activities against standards, including review, problem identification and corrective action. Quality Improvement (QI) identifies, implements and evaluates strategies to increase the capacity to fulfil and exceed quality standards.

6 Why focus on quality in HIV prevention? Build evidence base for sound interventions Support projects in demonstrating (cost-) effectiveness Improve political commitment and funding support Ensure quality during scale-up and transfer
