Dient oft zur Vorauswahl eines Papers Strain Measurement by 3D-Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry: Potentials, Limitations and Applications Lianxiang Yang Oakland University, Department of Mechanical Engineering Rochester, Michigan Andreas Ettemeyer Ettemeyer AG, Nersinger Str , D Elchingen, Germany Abstract The principles and new developments of 3D-Electronic Speckle Patter Interferometry (3D-ESPI) for strain/stress analysis are presented in this paper. Th potentials and limitations are discussed, and some applications as used in industry ar shown. The newly developed 3D-ESPI allows rapid measurement of both the shap and the 3D-deformation of complex industrial components. The combination of shap and deformation provides all the necessary data for the accurate and quantitativ determination of true strain and thus stress on nearly any industrial component. Base on a lightweight compact sensor design and new glass fiber concepts, the new devic has been greatly miniaturized and can be easily attached to the components durin testing. It is well suited for harsh environmental conditions as is often found in th real test world. Key Words: speckle interferometry, ESPI, strain/stress, deformation/displacement, shape measurement.

4 Einführung Hintergrund der Arbeit Aufgabenstellung Zu lösende Probleme 1 Introduction and Background The transportation industry demands high quality components that are designed in a very short period of time, satisfy the toughest strength requirements, and meet stringent safety standards. Especially in the automotive and aircraft industries, the development effort focuses on tailor-made design solutions conforming to the customer s expectations. To reduce cost and time-to-market, rapid design optimization has become a key issue. In the last decade, many industries adopted Computer-Aided-Engineering (CAE) tools to reduce the number of prototype builds and to speed up the development cycle. These analytical tools are relatively inexpensive to use and faster to implement than the costly traditional test methods as used in traditional design processes. There are, however, many variables that CAE tools cannot adequately address, such as, boundary conditions, material anisotropy etc. Therefore, efficient physical experimental techniques are still necessary for component design validation.

Obviously, the out-of-plane component w can be accurately determined with the illumination angle α = 0 oriented perpendicular to object surface or with a known α and u or v values that were determined from previous a quantitative measurement. To measure the in-plane component u or v, a dual-beam illumination is commonly used. 5 Fig. 2 shows the schematic of ESPI for in-plane measurement.
