Comenius meeting in Enns from Nov. 4 th to Nov. 8 th, 2013 Monday,Noveber 4 th : The meeting started on Nov, 4 th with the arrival of the participating schools. The teachers and students from Bratislava were the first to arrive in the afternoon. There were three teachers and nine students. After the check in at their hotel, we visited our school and then we took a short walk through Enns. Then three teachers and 15 students from Lauterhofen in Germany arrived at the train station in Enns. Finally, late in the evening, our Romanian guests arrived at the train station in St. Valentin.
Tuesday, November 5 th : At 8 o clock in the morning all the teachers and students met at NMS Lauriacum Enns. While the students were taking part in school lessons together with the Austrian students, all the teachers were having a meeting, in which further ideas and concepts were discussed. One important part was the Logo competition. Each school had brought and selected three different logos. So there were twelve logos, which took part in the competition. The winner was one of the German logos. Congratulations! For lunch our guests were invited to our school cafeteria, where noodle soup, Speckknödel and applestrudel were served. Everyone enjoyed this typical Austrian food.
In the afternoon we had organized a sightseeing tour through Enns. Our guides took us along all the interesting medieval landmarks such as the town tower in the middle of the town square, the Parish church, the castle and the city walls. At the end of the tour we climbed the steps up to the top of the town tower, where everyone enjoyed an excellent view of Enns, Linz and the Upper Austrian landscape. After dinner in the Hotel am Limes we spent some time with juggling and playing with diabolos in the gym of our school. Wednesday, November 6 th : The third day of the Comenius meeting began with a tour through the Enns harbor. A bus took us through the enormous area of the harbor, which is situated right at the border between Upper and Lower Austria, where the river Enns merges into the Danube.
Then we could watch a video documentation about the economical importance of the harbor and the companies there, and the students were allowed to play some strategic computer games explaining harbors and ships. At the end we entered a ship and could see how life was like on a ship and how the engines worked. After lunch at the harbor restaurant we had a bus tour to the Danube water power plant of Aschach. The power plant in Aschach is one of ten water power plants in Austria along the Danube.
The water power plants on the Danube are the most important source and provider of electrical energy in Austria. A guide took us through the power plant where we could see the turbines working and a ship passing the locks.
Thursday, November 7 th : This day began again at the NMS Lauriacum Enns. The students took part in school lessons and the teacher spent the morning with work and discussion of the project. At noon our visitors and 20 students from our school took the train to Linz. After a quick lunch we walked through the town of Linz and stopped at the most important landmarks and places of the capital of Upper Austria. So we visited the Neuer Dom, the castle with an excellent view of the town, the main square, the Lentos museum and the famous Nibelungenbrücke. Of course, there was also some time for shopping in the shops and shopping centers along the Landstraße.
After we had got back to Enns, we had our final dinner at the Hotel am Limes. Friday, November 8 th : In the morning the teachers and students left Enns after a very pleasant and informative stay in Enns.
