On this side of the polestar there are no minutes or hours, just seasons long, dark winters and short, joyous summers, when the sun sits in the sky for twenty hours, even in the South of the country.
Late evening, feet dangle from a bridge into pleasantly warm water. Little waves ripple softly to the shore, glances float across the silent pond. The sun has just set, making room for the moon for two, three hours, but it won t get dark. There is no black in a Scandinavian summer. The colour midnight blue was probably invented here.
Slowly, a strip of daylight creeps up the horizon first a red gleam, then a fiery glow, turning quickly into a bright light with a tinge of blue. A mystical, mysterious light. A light by which you can suddenly see the sprites dancing in the forest.

He is known as the poetic interpreter of the material world. Among the numerous artists and designers who have created collections for the Rosenthal studio-line, Timo Sarpaneva takes a special place. His shape»suomi«has been accepted into the permanent collection of the Centre Pompidou in Paris as an example for contemporary design.
The children in Lapland used to play with the spirits, the adults would speak with the animals and the shamans could travel between the worlds. And for some people in the sparsely populated expanse of Northern Finland, it remains so today.
In the Scandinavian forest around 230 kilometres east of Helsinki, there are no more street names or house numbers.
Most people these days lack the ability to listen to nature and their inner voice. They don t have the time and the peace to feel what is happening around them, below them and above them.
