Allgemein formulierte Strategien wie Wir wollen Marktführer werden sind in konkrete Arbeitsaufgaben umzusetzen. Die Balanced Scorecard liefert einen Ansatz zur Lösung dieses Problems. Damit verbunden ist allerdings auch die Aufgabe, in Form eines Berichtswesens für die Unternehmensleitung oder externe Dritte die Erreichung der Ziele zu kontrollieren und zu dokumentieren. Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es die Balanced Scorecard als ein Managementsystem für die Logistik zu untersuchen. Da aber die Logistik ein breit gestreutes Themengebiet ist, wird in dieser Arbeit die Sicht des Einkaufs betrachtet. Wesentliche Gründe, die für den Einsatz einer Balanced Scorcard sprechen, werden daher eingangs behandelt und mit einer kurzen Erklärung der allgemeinen Funktionsweise der Balanced Scorcard in Verbindung gebracht.
