Besonders deutlich zeigt sich dies daran, daß in der Romantik der Kunst allgemein Lösungskompetenzen zugeschrieben wurden, die man anderen Disziplinen (wissenschaftlicher Art, hier vornehmlich der Philosophie) nicht zutraute. Im folgenden wird versucht, zweierlei Dinge herauszustellen. Einmal sind dies - in äußerst knapp gehaltener Form - allgemeine Faktoren (aber z.t auch Ausflüsse), die sich für die Konstituierung der Romantik als Epoche verantwortlich gezeigt haben. Zum anderen wird ein Paradigmenwechsel in der Philosophie skizziert, welcher als geradezu außerordentlich in seiner Bedeutung für die literarische Produktion der Romantik erachtet werden muß, nämlich die Einbeziehung der Ästhetik in die Philosophie bzw. die Erklärung der Ästhetik als gewichtigstes bzw. eines der gewichtigsten philosophischen Themen überhaupt.
