The responsibility of property owners and the pressure on building operators to reduce energy consumption, and hence emissions, is increasing worldwide. Sustainable use of energy is not just a global challenge, but also a growing concern for business managers, since reduced energy costs increase a company's competitive edge. Among the essential means to this end are integrated building and room automation solutions. An optimised building automation system of energy efficiency class A can improve the efficiency of a building by up to 30 %. The DIN EN 15232 standard lists the effects of building and room automation on the energy efficiency of buildings (Energy performance of buildings Impact of Building Automation Control and Building Management). The standard describes methods for assessing the impact of building automation and technical building management on the energy consumption of buildings. The automation functions are divided into four building automation (BA) efficiency classes: QQ Class A stands for highly energy-efficient BA systems and technical building management (TBM). QQ Class B stands for optimised BA systems and some special TBM functions. QQ Class C stands for standard BA systems. QQ Class D stands for BA systems that are not energy efficient. Buildings with such systems must be modernised. New buildings may not be built with systems of this class. DIGICONTROL automation systems conform to the highest BA efficiency class A, as specified in the DIN EN 15232 standard. DIGICONTROL ems2 ems4 3

DIGICONTROL economic modular system Open for universal applications in all areas of building automation and industrial automation. The DIGICONTROL ems 2 and ems 4 (economic modular system) are network-based, interdisciplinary, freely programmable automation systems for universal tasks in all areas of building and industrial automation for systems of all sizes. Open communication using all modern communication channels, the consistent use of introduced standards, the use of existing IT infrastructure, the integration of various areas and systems, as well as the sophisticated, modular concept with decentralised distribution of tasks by using intelligent, fine-modular assemblies make DIGICONTROL automation systems predestined for all applications of the present and future. DIGICONTROL ems2 The DIGICONTROL ems2 automation system is the basis for implementing comprehensive building automation systems and networks for all building categories. ems4.cp04d Automation station with operating display DIGICONTROL ems2 has a control unit, various configurable inputs and outputs and, in the ems2.cp04d version, a display and rotary pulse encoder for entering setpoints, querying actual values, switching times, etc. It is a compact station used in smaller systems and is also used as a modular system in complex building automation networks with multiple information centres. DIGICONTROL ems2 is also ideal for integrating multiple technical building services systems distributed throughout a building. In connection with ems4 modules, ems2 offers a broad range of integration solutions which cover even very specialised areas of various building categories. ems4.r4d1b Room controller The web server integrated in ems2 facilitates convenient operation of systems without building control systems. Performance, sustainability and profitability are other arguments for using ems2. Compact, yet modular For detached or smaller systems, ems2 offers a particular advantage: ems2 is compact, yet modular and can be enhanced using ems4 modules. DIGICONTROL ems2 redefines the concept of modularity. Modularity is achieved through simple configuration of the software for the integrated, multifunctional inputs and outputs. This ensures optimal hardware utilisation. Additional modules often become unnecessary. At home in complex building networks As a component of complex building and room automation networks with multiple information centres, ems2 offers various installation options and can be integrated into all common electric distribution systems. DIGICONTROL ems2, field bus modules, and ems4 integration modules can be installed in control cabinets, switchboards, subdistribution systems, ceiling distributors and underfloor distributors. Thanks to PoE (Power over Ethernet), ems2 does not even require a power adapter or a separate plug. DIGICONTROL ems2 ems4 5
DIGICONTROL economic modular system DIGICONTROL ems4 The control units ems4.cp02b and ems4.cp03b-bac are the core of DIGICONTROL ems4. The communicate with the system's input and output modules using a CAN bus with excellent interference resistance and real-time transmission. The input and output modules can also act as system-specific interfaces in addition to the standard analogue and digital signals (e.g.: M bus, KNX/EIB, LCN, Grundfos and Wilo bus, Modbus, etc.). ems4.cp02b Automation station ems4.cp03b-bac BACnet Building Controller (B-BC) The BACnet Building Controller (B-BC) ems4.cp03b-bac was tested and certified by the WSP Lab. Its BACnet functions make ems4.cp03b-bac one of the most comprehensive automation stations available on the market. GFR is a Member of the BACnet Interest Group Europe ems4.cp03b-bac is listed with BACnet International. DIN rail module installed in control cabinet Fine-modular structure The equipment of an information centre with automation hardware varies depending on the technical building systems to be attached. Depending on the type and size of the system and the building network to be installed, either ems2 and/or ems4 controllers are installed. These controllers can be expanded with the required number of ems4 hardware modules. A comprehensive range of communication modules and bus modules is available. On pages 10 and 11 of this brochure, you will find the overview of system components. Intelligent input and output modules DIGICONTROL ems4 and ems2 also feature a fine-modular software structure. Highly complex tasks are no longer processed by a single controller, but are instead efficiently distributed. All modules have an autonomous intelligence function. This means they process parts of the program autonomously, without using the control unit's computing power. The control unit can therefore perform control and regulation tasks far more efficiently. If we look at how blinds are controlled, for example: The controller only defines the position of blinds and slats as a percentage. The output module moves the blinds to the preset position automatically. Or: Input modules convert voltage signals or passive signals into temperatures, scale them and send them to the control unit. 6 DIGICONTROL ems2 ems4

DIGICONTROL System Integration CAN MS/TP IP Solutions for integrated building automation systems If you want to operate a building and save energy, you need an innovative automation system that can integrate all technical building services. It is no longer feasible to treat heating and cooling energy centres, room air conditioning systems, shade systems, facade control, lighting, etc. as autarkic systems. As the hub of the building network, the automation system must record, process and transmit information from all systems and assign it properly. Innovative automation concepts take into account all building states, regardless of which system they belong to, and make them interdependent, taking into account the optimum energy yield. BACnet, KNX/EIB, DALI, M bus, Modbus, Profibus, etc. all networks communicate with each other. 8 DIGICONTROL ems2 ems4
