2 Liebe Leserinnen und Leser, Thüringens Wirtschaft wächst kräftig. Die Unternehmen in unserem Land sind innovativ und dynamisch. Allein im Jahr 2011 verzeichnen die Statistiker beim Wachstum ein Plus von 3,4 Prozent. Im Vergleich der Bundesländer belegt der Freistaat damit den hervorragenden Platz drei, gleich hinter Baden-Württemberg und dem Saarland. Diese Spitzenposition wollen wir sichern und am besten noch ausbauen. Immer häufiger werden auch Führungskräfte von Thüringer Unternehmen durch Fachjurys und Branchenmagazine ausgezeichnet. Das sind gute Signale für unser Land. Unternehmensvorstände sind die zentralen Treiber der wirtschaftlichen Entwicklung im Freistaat. Prozesse straffen, Kernkompetenzen stärken, Talente nutzen, Zukunftsfelder besetzen und die Innovationskraft erhöhen: All das können jedoch keine einzelnen Personen leisten, sondern nur teamorientierte Unternehmen. Wir haben uns mittlerweile eine gute Basis mit einer großen Zahl an schlagfertigen Unternehmen aufgebaut: Ich sehe Firmen, die sich erst vor kurzem für die Verwirklichung ihrer Geschäftsideen in Thüringen niedergelassen haben, ebenso wie Unternehmen, die hier bereits seit Jahrhunderten erfolgreich wirtschaften. Ich sehe Weltkonzerne wie Daimler, Schott, Bosch, Jenoptik oder Masdar, und zugleich einen breit aufgestellten, leistungsfähigen Mittelstand sowie erfolgreiche Kleinunternehmen. Genau dieser Mix ist das Erfolgsrezept des Landes. Ohne ihn wäre die Entwicklung Thüringens zu einem dynamischen Wirtschaftsstandort, der stetig neue Investoren aus dem In- und Ausland anzieht, undenkbar. 3 Dear Readers, Thuringia s economy is growing strongly. The companies that are doing business in our region have shown themselves to be innovative and dynamic. Statistics indicate that in 2011 alone growth was up by some 3.4 percent. This confirms the Free State of Thuringia as the third best-performing of all the federal states, just behind Baden-Württemberg and Saarland. Of course, we want to keep this position and, if possible, improve on it. Managing directors and executives from Thuringia-based companies are now being acknowledged with increasing frequency by expert juries and trade magazines. That is a good omen for us, since corporate boards are the main drivers of economic development in the Free State. Increasing business efficiency, strengthening core skills, tapping into talent, occupying the niche markets of tomorrow and improving innovation capacity: all this cannot be achieved by individuals alone but requires a team-oriented corporate culture. We have now succeeded in building a good platform with a large number of resourceful enterprises: and I am referring not only to established companies that have been operating successfully in the region for hundreds of years but also to firms that have just recently chosen Thuringia as the best place for turning their business ideas into reality. I see global corporations such as Daimler, Schott, Bosch, Jenoptik and Masdar, and at the same time I can point to a diversified and highly productive midmarket sector and many successful small-scale companies and businesses. And it is this mix that has been the secret of our success. Without it, Thuringia would never have been able to develop as a dynamic business location with the capacity to attract increasing numbers of new investors from within and outside Germany.
