4 InEquality UnGleichheit Low interest rates may benefit investors but those who have savings will lose out. Opinions differ on the question of just how fairly financial and capital markets are designed. Do they only help the rich? Or does everybody profit from a financial system which supports the wider economy? How can players on the financial market put the conclusions of the InEquality debate into action? What consequences can we anticipate? The Financial Market Symposium will investigate the interplay between InEquality and the financial world in various areas: do all citizens have enough information on how they can profit from financial services? Does the international financial architecture still fulfil all the requirements set by developing countries and new players? Is the European financial architecture fit for purpose for future years? Alongside plenary sessions, financial experts will delve into these questions together with the audience during interactive breakfast clubs. For example, women only hold one-tenth of the top management posts in the Eurozone's biggest banks. Why and how could banks benefit from a more diverse staff? What would the effects of more diversity be on decision-making processes inside banks and the corporate culture as a whole? Would it impact performance at all? The cast: 1 whiteboard, 1 flipchart, a huge amount of office supplies and Benedikt Grawe himself. For 70 years, Everyman and every woman has come to Alpbach to disucss domestic, foreign and love affairs. A global vanity fair in the small mountain village: at lectures, working groups, networking events, clubbings and receptions. The "Spirit of Alpbach" is eyeing all the hustle sceptically. On the 70th anniversary he takes a step back, reflects and realises: things cannot go on like this!
