2 ThIS Co-Curricular Programme 1 General information We are excited to be able to inform about our co-curricular programme. The programme offers additional recreational and educational activities that will enable students to develop their skills, discover new talents and make new friends. These activities are offered and led by ThIS teachers. There are no costs; however, in some cases there could be a negligible fee charged for specific materials. All details about the courses are listed in this booklet. All students are welcome to participate and due to limited space, places will be given on a first come first serve basis. Some of our activities are for parents or/and teachers, too. Wir freuen uns, Ihnen unser schulbegleitendes Programm vorzustellen. Das Programm bietet ergänzend zum Unterricht Freizeit- und Bildungsaktivitäten, die es den SchülerInnen ermöglichen, ihre Fähigkeiten zu entwickeln, neue Talente zu entdecken und neue Freunde zu finden. Diese Aktivitäten werden von LehrerInnen der ThIS angeboten und durchgeführt. Es entstehen keine zusätzlichen Kosten; nur in einigen Fällen wird eine kleine Gebühr für bestimmte Materialien notwendig sein. Alle Details zu den einzelnen Kursen sind in dieser Broschüre aufgeführt. Alle SchülerInnen sind herzlich eingeladen, sich zu beteiligen. Aufgrund begrenzter Kapazitäten werden die Plätze auf einer "first come first serve"-basis vergeben. Einige der Angebote können auch von Eltern und/oder LehrerInnen wahrgenommen werden. The activities (with some exceptions) start at 15:20 and finish at 16:05 on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays. Die Aktivitäten beginnen (mit einigen Ausnahmen) jeweils dienstags und/oder donnerstags um 15:20 und enden um 16:05. Our programme is divided into three sessions: fall, winter and spring (please find exact dates in the box below). Some clubs or activities however, may run throughout the school year. Parents, together with their child, fill in the sign-up form for all the three sessions. Most of the activities meet once a week for a ten week programme. To allow a better transition from one session to the other, there is a gap of two weeks in between. During these two weeks, the next session will be updated and finished. Unser Programm ist in drei Abschnitte gegliedert: Herbst, Winter und Frühling (genaue Daten sind im Feld unten aufgeführt). Einige Aktivitäten werden jedoch auch das ganze Schuljahr hindurch stattfinden. Die Eltern füllen zusammen mit ihrem Kind das Anmeldeformular für alle drei Abschnitte aus. Die meisten Aktivitäten finden im Rahmen eines 10wöchigen Programms einmal in der Woche statt. Zwischen den Abschnitten gibt es eine Pause von zwei Wochen, um einen besseren Übergang von einem Durchgang zum anderen zu ermöglichen. Während dieser zwei Wochen wird die Teilnehmerliste des nächsten Durchgangs aktualisiert und abgeschlossen.

3 ThIS Co-Curricular Programme 2 Sign up / Application Einschreibung /Anmeldung To sign up for activities, families are requested to complete the application form students bring home. There is a minimum number of participants required to run a club. The rooms will be announced when the courses are set up. Um sich für Aktivitäten anzumelden, werden die Familien gebeten, das Antragsformular, das die SchülerInnen nach Hause bringen, auszufüllen. Es ist eine Mindestteilnehmerzahl erforderlich, damit eine Aktivität stattfinden kann. Die Räume werden mitgeteilt, sobald die Kurse feststehen. Transportation information Information zum Transport Students have to be collected promptly at the end of each activity. This year, too, we will be able to offer the school bus service on Tuesday and Thursday (to students who signed up for the regular school bus service). The busses will leave at the school s bus parking area at about 16:15. The signin form for this special bus service is available on the school s homepage (Campus Life/Co- Curricular). Die SchülerInnen müssen nach Ende jeder Veranstaltung unverzüglich abgeholt werden. Auch in diesem Jahr können wir (für SchülerInnen, die für einen der regulären Schulbusse angemeldet sind) dienstags und donnerstags einen Busservice anbieten. Die Busse fahren um ca. 16:15 Uhr vom Busparkplatz der Schule ab. Die für die Nutzung notwendige Vereinbarung ist auf der Internetseite der Schule (Schulleben/Aktivitäten) abrufbar. Courses run by external people externe Kursangebote At the very end of this booklet you will find some courses run by external people (mostly members of our school community). Please note that not all of those are compatible with the sessions for our regular co-curricular activities and the transport opportunities mentioned above. 5 ThIS Co-Curricular Programme 4 Visual Arts, Music and Crafts Scrapbooking Club Teacher: Ms. Mari Pienaar Session: III; Tuesday Grade level: EP2-2, limited to 8 students Costs for material: 10 Students have to bring their own photographs. We decorate our albums while enjoying some snacks. Event Card and Mobile Making Club Teacher: Ms. Annette Jensen Session: I; Thursday Grade level: 2-6 Costs for material: 5 Learn how to make different kinds of cards and mobiles for different events. Sewing Club Teacher: Ms. Catherine Bunn Session: III; Thursday Grade level: 1-5, limited to 10 students Costs for material: 5 Students will learn to make fun and exciting things using different sewing techniques and a variety of materials. Basket Weaving Club Teacher: Ms. Katharina Kraska Session: II; Tuesday Grade level: 4-12 Costs for material: 10 Basic weaving techniques, making baskets. Choir/Singing Club Teacher: Ms. Katja Rudloff Session: III; Tuesday Grade level: 3-8 Let s sing together! Learn new songs and some singing techniques. Ukulele Club Teacher: Ms. Trudy McMillin Session: I, II, III; Tuesday Grade level: 5-12 Learn to play ukulele for fun and performances. Students must have their own ukulele and ukulele tuner.

6 ThIS Co-Curricular Programme 5 Mural Painting Club Teacher: Ms. Hanna Muller Session: II; Tuesday Grade level: 8-12, limited to 7 students Students must be willing to possibly work on a few Saturdays. As a group a mural will be designed and transferred to a wall in the school. Yearbook Club Teacher: Ms. Kay Gulledge Session: II; Tuesday Grade level: 5-12 Students will become journalists, photographers, and designers for the yearbook.

7 ThIS Co-Curricular Programme 6 Sports and Games Football Club Teacher: Mr. Phil Armstrong Session: III; Thursday Grade level: 6-8 Football Club for boys and girls. Football Fridays Teacher: Mr. Jake Gulledge Session: I, II, III; Friday 15:30 17:00 (NO bus shuttle!) Grade level: 9-12 and faculty Student/faculty football (soccer) game in the gym. Outdoor Club Teachers: Ms. Denise Dittmar, Ms. Maren Kaiser Session: III; Tuesday Grade level: 4-7 It s all about cross country running. If you love being outside at all weather conditions and want to improve your endurance you are right at this club. Badminton Club Teacher: Mr. Andrew Brown Session: II; Thursday Grade level: 6-12 Having fun playing Badminton, getting some exercise, learning Badminton rules. Kids Zumba Club Teacher: Ms. Stefanie Nardella Session: I; Tuesday Grade level: 2-5, staff also welcome Students will be taking part in kid-friendly Zumba routines and dancing. Running Club Teacher: Mr. Scott Overby Session: III; Tuesday Grade level: 8 12, teachers and parents Participants need a pair of running shoes, weather appropriate running clothes, and a watch. We will run/jog and stretch. This is for any level of fitness.

8 ThIS Co-Curricular Programme 7 Language Adult Beginning Conversation in German Teacher: Ms. Patricia Syring Session: I; Thursday Grade level: adults Open to teachers and parents who want to learn or refresh their basic German conversational skills. Bring a notebook, but the emphasis is having fun with spoken German. English for Parents Teacher: Ms. Cornelia Möhler Session: III; Thursday For parents who are interested in English conversation. IGCSE French Support for the Exam Teacher: Ms. Fanny Gorant Session: I; Monday (NO bus shuttle!) and Tuesday Grade level: 10 Spend time studying IGCSE topics and exam papers to feel more confident and succeed for exam. IB Spanish Club Teacher: Ms. Emilia Gancedo Session: II; Tuesday Grade level: Students will practise their language skills for the exam. Short Story Club Teacher: Mr. John Campbell Session: II; Tuesday Grade level: 9-12 We will read and discuss various short stories.

9 ThIS Co-Curricular Programme 8 Sciences, Social Studies and more Student Council Lower School Teacher: Ms. Dominik Bourgoin Session: I, II, III; every other Friday 11:35 12:05 Grade level: 2 5 The representatives from each class will meet to discuss the projects and changes they would like to accomplish this year to make our school a great place to be. School Spirit Day once a month. Election will be in September for the new council members to be voted in. Student Council Upper School Teacher: Ms. Catherine Williams Session: I, II, III; Friday at 13:15 Grade level: 6-12 One elected representative each from Upper School homerooms. Members will meet weekly to represent the interests/concerns of the student body and to organize events and activities as needed. Extra Maths Club Teacher: Mr. Herman Pienaar Session: III; Tuesday Grade level: 6-8 General assistance as well as revision for exams. Maths Help Club Teacher: Mr. Petrut Grigore Session: I, II, III; Tuesday Grade level: 11 SL (B) students only Students will review and practice different maths topics. Chocolate Maths Club Teacher: Mr. Jason Smith Session: I, II, III; Monday (NO bus transfer!) Grade level: 9-12 Fun and challenging activities with a view to preparing a small group for one of the International School competitions. Science Club Teachers: Mr. Eric Tolentino, Mr. Robert Dunn Session: III; Tuesday Grade level: 7 9, limited to 15 students Lab based activities and exploration for fun and enrichment.

Students will have the opportunity to explore exciting hands on learning. History Bee/Bowl Club Teacher: Ms. Catherine Williamson Session: III; Friday (NO bus transfer!) Grade level: 7-10 History quiz in groups and individual students - leading to regional tournament (TBC). Homework Help Club Teachers: Ms. Kellie Conahan, Ms. Aimee Tolentino Session: I, II, III; Tuesday and Thursday Grade level: 6 12 For students who receive learning support services. Students are invited to receive extra assistance in homework, projects, etc. in any subject area. Internet Tips and Tricks LS Teacher: Mr. Petrut Grigore Session: II; Thursday Grade level: 2 5, limited to 12 students The students will learn useful tips and tricks to make their life easier and safer in the online environment. Internet Tips and Tricks US Teacher: Mr. Petrut Grigore Session: III; Thursday Grade level: 9 12, limited to 15 students The students will learn useful tips and tricks to make their life easier and safer in the online environment. Chess Club Teacher: Mr. Boris Raderschatt Session: I; Tuesday Grade level: 3 5, limited to 8 students Learn basic chess rules and strategies. Please bring own board.

11 ThIS Co-Curricular Programme 10 Gardening I Teacher: Ms. Eva-Maria Böhner Session: I; Tuesday Grade level: EP2 3 Students will need a pair of wellingtons (Gummistiefel) and gardening gloves if desired. Students will learn about plants and how to work in a garden and practice their English. Gardening II Teacher: Ms. Angela Houtzager Session: III; Thursday Grade level: 6 8 We will be working in our school garden, starting with growing some plants from seeds. Cooking Club Teachers: Ms. Eva Slaje, Mr. Wolfgang Aicher Session: III; double period every other Thursday (03:20-04:50) NO bus shuttle! Grade level: 3 5, maximum of 12 students Costs for ingredients: 10 We will prepare our own two-course menu from scratch. Model United Nations Club Teachers: Ms. Catherine Williamson, Mr. Wayne Symes Session: I, II, III; Tuesday Grade level: 8 12 United Nations role-play - to debate and find solutions to global issues.

12 ThIS Co-Curricular Programme 11 External Courses Standard and Latin Dance Course Tanzwerkstatt Weimar Grade level: 7-12 Wednesdays, 15:30-17:00 (NO bus shuttle!); School Aula Start: 15 February 2017, 9 lessons Costs: 90 Minimum number of participants: 12 You need comfortable clothing, shoes, and something to drink. Application forms available in the school office or at info@tanzwerkstatt-weimar.de. Please sign in by 31 Dezember! Origami Club Teacher: Mr. Long Zhang Session: I; Tuesday Grade level: 4 5, limited to 10 students We will need colored papers, 130g please. Students will learn how to fold papers and have a lot of fun. Chinese Language Club Teacher: Mr. Long Zhang Session: I; Monday and Thursday (for the same group of children) NO bus shuttle on Monday! Grade level: 6 12 Chinese for fun. The students will learn Chinese language with ludic activities. Soccer Club Teacher: Mr. Frank Schön All year, Monday, 15:30-17:00 (NO bus shuttle!), Gym Start: 29 August Grade level: 1-4 Costs: 10 per lesson Application forms available in the school office or under fussballschule@f-schoen.de. Private Music Lessons ThIS supports private, individual lessons to learn musical instruments and is very open to provide rooms for that purpose.
