2 Millennium Summit 2000 Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) MDG 1: Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger (reduce by half the proportion of people whose income is less than $ 1 a day; who suffer from hunger) MDG 2: Achieve universal primary education MDG 3: Promote gender equality and empower women MDG 4: Reduce child mortality MDG 5: Improve maternal health MDG 6: Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases MDG 7: Ensure environmental sustainability MDG 8: Develop a global partnership for development 2

4 Zugang zu Sanitärversorgung unter den Millenniumentwicklungszielen Das MDG Ziel zu Sanitärversorgung wird nicht erreicht werden Mit Ablauf der MDGs dieses Jahr noch immer 2.5 Mrd. Menschen ohne Zugang zu verbesserten sanitären Einrichtungen 1 Mrd. Menschen verrichten ihr Geschäft im Freien; davon 600 Mio. in Indien Faktoren wie Handhygiene, Umgang mit Fäkalschlamm, Abwasserbehandlung nicht eingerechnet! 5 Zugang zu Trinkwasserversorgung unter den Millenniumentwicklungszielen Das MDG Trinkwasserziel wurde offiziell 2012 erreicht ABER: zur Zielerreichung verwendeter Indikator nicht aussagekräftig hinsichtlich Trinkwasserqualität Tatsächlich nutzen weltweit mind. 1.8 Mrd. Menschen fäkal kontaminiertes Trinkwasser vs. 748 Mio. Menschen ohne Zugang zu verbesserten Trinkwasserquellenquellen Diskrepanz zw. globalen Zahlen u. Realität vor Ort, insbes. in Slums, führt zu falschen Signalen hinsichtl. 6 Lehren für das post-2015 Wasserziel für nachhaltige Entwicklung? 1. Notwendig: - umfassendes u. ambitioniertes Ziel - richtige Messung des Ziels - Berücksichtigung der Menschenrechts-Kriterien 2. Zentrale Funktion der post-2015 Wasseragenda für nachhaltige Entwicklung: - Stärkung von Politiken, Institutionen und Strukturen - Betonung des Finanzierungs- und Implementierungsbedarf

18 Was ist neu beim Wasserziel im Rahmen der Nachhaltigkeitsziele/SDGs? Breiterer Anwendungsbereich als MDGs; nicht nur Armutsreduzierung, sondern auch Nachhaltigkeit: Erweiterung der globalen Wasseragenda Höheres Ambitionsniveau als MDGs: universeller Zugang im Einklang mit Menschenrecht auf Wasser- und Sanitärversorgung, Berücksichtigung der Menschenrechts-Kriterien u. Prinzipien SDGs bedeuten Nachhaltigkeit auch zu Hause

Juli 2015: Zwischenstaatlichen Verhandlungen März 2015 März 2016: VN Statistikkommission (von VN Mitgliedstaaten beauftragt) erarbeitet Vorschlag für SDG Indikatoren Juli 2015: 3. Internat. Conference on Financing for Development, Addis Abeba (zentrale Veranstaltung zur Definition der Umsetzungsinstrumente) Sept. 2015: VN Gipfel zur Verabschiedung der post-2015 SDG Agenda

Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development 14.1 by 2025, prevent and significantly reduce marine pollution of all kinds, particularly from land-based activities, including marine debris and nutrient pollution 14.2 by 2020, sustainably manage and protect marine and coastal ecosystems to avoid significant adverse impacts, including by strengthening their resilience, and take action for their restoration, to achieve healthy and productive oceans
