1 1 Brief instruction on BZStOnline-Portal Start your registration on the website Recommendation: Print out the Checklist for the registration process BOP under: Click on the link Zur Registrierung (to registration)

3 3 The screen then expands downward and the following view appears: Click on zur Registrierung (to registration)

4 4 We recommend you to check in advance whether your system complies with the requirements of BZStOnline. Our Configuration Assistent performs this check for you automatically. This step is optional. Important note Please do not use the "Back" function of your browser during the registration process, otherwise the registration will not work properly.

5 5 Start the first registration step on the Online-Portal with Schritt 1: Persönliche Daten (step 1: personal data) when you: a) received the BZSt-Nummer (BZSt number) from BZSt by letter post b) get the Geheimniswert (secret code) from BZSt by

6 6 Fill out this form field with a freely selectable short name. Enter character string (up to 8-digits). The short name is used as a distinguishing feature for several personal accounts in BZStOnline, to have different accounts to be kept separate from each other. The short name must be unambiguous. Please use the drop-down menu to choose the 2 nd point : BZSt-Geheimnis Fill in the personal data, the BZSt-Nummer (BZSt number) indicated in the letter post and the Geheimniswert (secret code) indicated in the . For this see points b) and c) on the checklist.

8 8 Geheimniswert (secret code) from BZSt by Sehr geehrte Dame, sehr geehrter Herr, Sie haben dem Bundeszentralamt für Steuern (BZSt) eine Anmeldung zur Nutzung des BZSt-Online-Portals übermittelt. Die Registrierung im BOP erfolgt in folgenden Schritten: 1. Das BZSt übermittelt Ihnen eine BZSt-Nummer per Briefpost. 2. Das BZSt übermittelt Ihnen einen Geheimniswert per Sie beginnen Ihre Registrierung im BOP auf der Internetseite mit der Wahl einer dort beschriebenen Registrierungsarten und der Eingabe der persönlichen Daten im BOP. 4. Das BOP übermittelt Ihnen eine Aktivierungs-ID für ein für Sie eingerichtetes Portalkonto per , das nach Schritt 3 für Sie erstellt wurde. 5. Das BZSt übermittelt Ihnen einen Aktivierungscode für das für Sie eingerichtete Portalkonto per Briefpost. 6. Sie aktivieren Ihr Portalkonto über den Ihnen in der mit der Aktivierungs-ID (Schritt 4) übermittelten Link. Dort erfolgt die Eingabe von Aktivierungs-ID und Aktivierungscode. 7. Sie erhalten vom BOP ein Zertifikat, mit dem Sie sich in Ihr Portalkonto einloggen und von dort aus Anträge stellen können. Sie befinden sich momentan bei Schritt 2 und erhalten mit dieser das BZSt-Geheimnis. Ihr BZSt-Geheimnis lautet: Geheimniswert (secret code) Mit freundlichen Grüßen Bundeszentralamt für Steuern

9 9 Choose one point of the Sicherheitsabfrage (security prompt) and fill in below your own answer After clicking Weiter (continue), a new window appears.

10 10 Please check again your data just before you send the registration data. Sending registration data Click on Absenden (send) to send the registration data to the BZSt. A sending confirmation will then appear on your screen (not shown here)

11 11 A few seconds later you will find an in the mailbox you have specified (a so-called confirmation ; shown here as an excerpt). In it the BZSt ask you to confirm the receipt of the e- mail by clicking on the provided link. Please click on this link. Note: If you have not received the above, you have to register again beginning with step 1. The whole registration must be completed with all required steps within 150 days.

12 12 Link for activation After clicking the above link, you will receive an (a so-called activation mail, shown here as an excerpt). Please do not delete this . It contains the initial information on your further registration steps. Please wait now until you receive the Aktivierungs-Code (activation code) and the remaining information for the registration. This can take up to 14 days. Please refrain from enquiries with BZSt prior to the expiration of the 14 days.

13 13 The letter with the subject Registrierung im BZStOnline-Portal-Aktivierungscode (registration for BZStOnline-Portal-activation code) contains your activation code in the centre of the text. This is a 12-digit combination of numbers and letters followed by your chosen short name as a supplement in brackets. Now after receiving the letter open the so-called activation mail (see the picture on page 9) and click on the marked link. You will be directed automatically to the BZSTOnline-Portal for the next step.

14 14 Now click on Schritt 2: Eingabe der Aktivierungsdaten und Speichern des Elster-Zertifikats (Step 2 Activation and initial login)

15 15 Important note If you enter the activation data incorrectly three times, your registration data will be blocked and you have to register again (beginning with step 1 Persönliche Daten (personal data)). Please enter your Aktivierungs-ID (activation-id) and enter your Aktivierungscode (activation code). Click on Weiter to continue.

16 16 Important note Be sure to note down your personal PIN as well as the location of the.pfx-file and keep these details in a safe place. You will need both pieces of information for the next step of registration in order to activate your certificate. It is activated with the successful first-time login with BZStOnline. As a next step you have to indicate your own password (PIN). Repeat your PIN below the field PIN. Continue with Weiter. Below the field PIN wiederholen (repeat PIN) you will find the field Name der Zertifikatsdatei (name of the certification file). The file name consists of: < short name accout + elster + date of activation + ending.pfx >. The file is generally saved under C:\Documents and Settings\<Your name>. You can also choose a different storage location. The so-called certificate, a file, was generated during the activation process. It contains your entered data securely encrypted- and it is your electronic signature.

17 17 Step 3 is to activate the certificate-file completely with the first Login. The direct link for this is: For this, click the button Durchsuchen (search). A Window opens and you must search for your file with the ending.pfx on your computer. Take this file and enter your PIN. Click the Login button -> you will see the text: Elster online Login bitte warten, bis dieser Vorgang abgeschlossen ist (Elster online Login... Please wait until this process is completed...)

18 18 The next page is headlined Erstmaliges Login Benutzerangaben ergänzen (first login - add user data): Complete your personal data. The fields marked * are mandatory fields. Click on Übernehmen (adopt data)

19 19 After this you will see: Click on privaten Startseite (private start page) You will see on the next site:

20 20 The registration ends. Please click on Logout when you leave the Portal. Important note: Keep your certificate file in a safe place only accessible to you, where you can find it again easily when processing your tax matters. It is not possible to restore the.pfx-file if it is lost. Complete re-registration is unavoidable in this case. The same applies to your PIN. With the ELSTER basic registration type, although your user account will not be blocked after entering the PIN three times incorrectly, a complete re-registration is also unavoidable if the PIN is lost irretrievably.
