Das Projekt ist mehr als umstritten: Polen etwa fürchtet, von der Gasversorgung abgeschnitten zu werden, falls die Route wie geplant durch die Ostsee und nicht über das Baltikum und über polnisches Staatsgebiet führt. Schweden wiederum fürchtet um die Ökologie vor der eigenen Küste - dort verläuft die Pipeline durch mehrere Naturschutzgebiete
