Aus vier Wahlveranstaltungen werden drei zu insgesamt 3 CP ausgewählt. The lecture Introduction to organismic Marine Biology is mandatory. 3 out of 4 optional courses must be selected. Wahl / optional Lernziele des Moduls Die Studierenden sollen einen Überblick über die Artenvielfalt und Lebensstrategien mariner Organismen erhalten. die Funktionsweise des Lebensraums Wattenmeer verstehen. eine umfassende Artenkenntnis der marinen Fauna erwerben. wissen, welche Themen der Meeresbiologie an welchem Institut bearbeitet werden. einen Einblick in aktuelle meeresbiologische Forschungen erhalten. learning outcome Bacteria: Knowledge of main physiological groups of marine microorganisms, role of microorganisms in primary production and in material cycles of the elements, adaptations to location factors. Algae: Knowledge of main systematic groups of phytoplankton and phytobenthos: morphological, biochemical and metabolic physiology characteristics, reproduction strategies, physiological adaptations to the location. Invertebrates: Knowledge of main systematic groups of invertebrates, especially cnidaria, molluscs, crustacea, echinodermata: morphology, reproduction and development, physiological adaptations, ecological importance. Knowledge of the special importance of the Wadden Sea regarding to the complex ecological interrelations and living conditions in the Wadden Sea, insight into the ecological consequences of overexploitation of the Wadden Sea, dicsussion of systematic changes due to climate change, overview of current research activities. Basic knowledge of the most abundant marine taxa and their ecological functions in the North Sea, self-study of identification literature and learning of the terminology, presentation of own work and debate in plenary. Knowledge of current issues of marine biology. Knowledge of current issues in marine biology research at several research institutes. Art der Prüfung / method of assessment, exam Modulprüfung (MP) / Assessment of module (MP) or submodule (TP) Klausur written exam Die Modulprüfung besteht zu 100% aus Fragen zur Vorlesung Einführung in die organismische Meeresbiologie. 3 Ökologie des Wattenmeeres Ecology of the Wadden Sea PM2Mar-2 SWS / teaching hours per week within Semester (14 weeks) 1,7 20 h V+Ex Kapazität / capacity V Lecture, P Lab course, Ü Exercise, S Seminar, Ex Excursion, 20 TN Die VA "Ökologie des Wattenmeeres" findet als Blockveranstaltung statt (2 Vorlesungstermine und 1 Tag Exkursion). / Block course (2x lecture, 1x excursion) Vorlesung: Das europäische Wattenmeer im Nordseebereich ist eine der letzten großflächigen naturnah erhaltenen Landschaften Mitteleuropas und seit 2009 Weltnaturerbe der UNESCO. Die Vorlesung gibt einen Einblick in die komplexen Zusammenhänge dieses Ökosystems. Behandelt werden die Besonderheiten verschiedener Teilbereiche (Gezeitenzone, Sublitoral, Salzwiese) und deren besonderen Lebensbedingungen für die dort lebenden Organismengruppen. Des Weiteren werden Auswirkungen und mögliche ökologische Konsequenzen anthropogener Einflüsse angesprochen, wie erhöhte Nährstoffeinträge (Eutrophierung), intensive Garnelen- und Muschelfischerei, Nutzung von Windenergie, Klimawandel sowie Tourismus. Neben Grundlagen werden auch Ergebnisse aus neueren Wattenmeerprojekten vorgestellt. Exkursion: Auf der Exkursion in den Nationalpark Niedersächsisches Wattenmeer (Dorum-Neufeld) werden die ökologischen Besonderheiten des Eulitorals (Gezeitenbereich) und der dort lebenden Organismengruppen vorgestellt. Die Demonstration der typischen Fischfauna aus Dredgefängen ist abhängig von der Verfügbarkeit des Krabbenkutters Ruth Albrecht/ Nordstern. Lecture: The European Wadden Sea at the North Sea is one of the last extensive areas of near-natural landscape in Central Europe and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since This lecture provides an insight into the complex interrelations of this ecosystem. Features of different subareas (intertidal, sublitoral, salt marsh) and special living conditions for organisms living there Effects and possible ecological consequences of anthroplogical influences such as eutrophication, intensive prawn and clam fishery, use of wind energy, climate change and tourism Results of current Wadden Sea projects Excursion: Excursion to the Wadden Sea National Park (Dorum-Neufeld, Lower Saxony) Presentation of ecological features of the eulittoral and organisms living there

4 02-02-PM2Mar-3 Bestimmungsübungen an Meerestieren Exercises in Taxonomic classification of marine invertebrates using morphological traits SWS / teaching hours per week within Semester (14 weeks) 1,7 24 h S+Ü Kapazität / capacity V Lecture, P Lab course, Ü Exercise, S Seminar, Ex Excursion, 20 TN Die Veranstaltung findet als Blockveranstaltung statt (4-tägig, jeweils max. 5 h P und 1 h Seminar). / Block course ( 4 days, maximum of 5 hours practical course and 1 hour seminar each day Die Lehrveranstaltung gibt den Studierenden eine Einführung in die Bestimmung mariner Evertebraten der Nordsee und damit einen Überblick über die wichtigsten benthischen und pelagischen Organismengruppen der hiesigen Meeresfauna. Zusätzlich zu den praktischen Übungen, die den Studierenden die morphologischen Charakteristika der verschiedenen Taxa nahe bringen, werden die Verbreitung und die Ökologie der Tiere vorgestellt bzw. eigenständig erarbeitet. Zur Bestimmung wird neben allgemeinen Bestimmungsbüchern vor allem spezielle Fachliteratur, auch in englischer Sprache, eingesetzt. Im Rahmen des täglichen Seminars im Anschluss an die praktischen Übungen werden die Bestimmungswege kritisch diskutiert und die einzelnen Arten vorgestellt. Vor allem werden Vertreter der Crustacea, Echinodermata, Molluska und Polychaeta behandelt, darüber hinaus werden aber weniger bekannten Gruppen wie z.b. Sipunculida, Nemertini, oder Branchiostoma, vorgestellt.
