Ein Versuch zur Beschreibung des Baskischen nach dem Universalienkonzept von Joseph H. Greenberg SOV ist die dominierende Ordnung in den Aussagesatzen mit Nominalsubjekt und Nominalobjekt. So wird auch der neutrale Aussage satz im Baskischen ausgedrückt. Darum kann man sagen, dass SOV die Grundwortstellung des Baskischen ist': Allandek orain Santurtzira Matxaleni soingainekoa dakarkio. (Allande-k orain Santurtzi-ra Mntxalen-i soingaineko-a da-kar-ki-o) ( Allande + Ergativ jetzt Santurtzi + Illativ Matxalen +Dativ Mantel + Nominativ DOaf. + bringen + IOaf. + IOaf. 3. sg. 1 "In declarative sentences with nominal subject and object, the domirant order is almost always one in which the subject precedes the object". Joseph H. GREFNBERG, Some universals of grammar, in "Universals of language", second edition, edited by Joseph H. Greenberg, the M.I.T. press, 1973, S. 110.
U2 Die Sprachen, die Postpositionen haben, stellen normalerweise den Genitiv vor das Hauptnomen. So ist es auch im Baskischen2: Gizonaren burua. (Gizon-aren buru-a) Etxeko atea. (Hiri handi-a) ( Stadt grob +Nominativ) (Die grobe Stadt) U6 Betrifft das Baskische nicht6. 2 "In languages with prepositions, the genitive almost always follows the governing noun, while in languages with postpositions it almost always precedes", a.a.0. S "Languages with dominant VSO order are always prepositional", a.a.0. S With overwhelmingly greater than chance frequency, languages with normal SOV order are postpositionai", a.a.0. S "If a language has dominant SOV order and the genitive follows the governing noun, then the adjective likewise follows the noun", a.a.0. S "Aii languages with dominant VSO order have SVO as an alternative or as the only alternative basic order", a.a.0. S. 110.
7 "If in a language with dominant SOV order there is no alternative basic order, or only OSV as thce alternative, then al1 adverbial modifiers of the verb likewise grecede the verb", a.a.0. S "When a yes-no question is differentiated from the corresponding assertion by intonational pattern, the distinctive intonational features of each of these patterns is reckoned from the end of the sentence rather than the beginning", a.a.0. S "W.ith well more than chance frequency, when question particles or affixes are specified in position by reference to the sentencc as a whole. if initial, such elements are found in prepositional languages and, if final, in postpositional", a.a.0. S. 110.
U10 Die Fragepartikeln stehen normalerweise nach den Wortern, auf die sie sich beziehen. Im Baskischen stehen diese Partikeln entweder vor oder nach dem Verb, wie man unter U9 gezeigt hatlo: Dakarkioa? (dakarkio-a?) Al dakarkio? Ba dakarkio? U11 Wenn man ein Fragepronomen venvendet, macht man eine Inversion, in der das Fragepronomen an der ersten Stelle steht, an der 2. das Verb und zum Schluss das Subjekt 11: Zer dakarkio Allandek Matxaleni? (Zer da-kar-ki-o Allande-k Matxalen-i?) ( Was bringt Allande + Ergativ Matxalen + Dativ? ) ( Was bringt Allande der Matxalen? ) U12 In den Sprachen mit der Grundwortstellung SOV in den Aussagesatzen stehen Fragepronomina nicht undebingt an der ersten Stelle des Satzes. Im Baskischen jedoch wohll*: Zer da hori? ( Was ist das? ) Nor dator orain? (Wer kommt jetzt?) Nork dauka liburua? ( Wer hat das Buch? ) Noiz boa etxera? ( Wann gehst du nach Hause? ) Non dago etxea? (Wo ist das Haus? ) Zein da Allande? ( Wer ist Allande? ) 10 "Question particles or affixes, specified in position by reference to a particular word in the sentence, almost always follow that word. Such particles do not occur in languages with dominant order VSO", a.a.0. S "Inversion of statement order so that verb precedes asubject occurs only in languages where the question word or phrase is normally initial. This same inversion occurs in yes-no questions only if it also occurs in interrogative word questions", a.a.0. S "If a language has dominant order VSO in declarative sentences, it always puts interrogative words or phrases first in interrogative word questions; If it has dominant order SOV in declarative sentences, there is never such an invariant rule", a.a.0. S. 111.
U13 Wenn das Nominalobjekt dern Verb immer vorausgeht, dann gehen dern Hauptverb auch die Verbformen voraus, die ihm untergeordnet sind 13: Allandek Matxaleni soingainekoa ekarri behar dio. (Allande-k Matxalen-i soingaineko-a ekarri behar d-i-o) ( Allande + Ergativ Matxalen + Dativ Mantel + Nominativ bringen müssen DOaf. + IOaf. + IOaf. 3. sg. ) (Allande muss der Matxalen den Mantel bringen) U14 Als normale Reihenfolge in allen Sprachen gilt, dass der Bedingungssatz innerhalb eines Konditionalgefüges dern Schluss (dem bedingten Satz) vorausgeht 14: Allandek jakea balekarkit, behingoan jantziko nuke. (Allande-k jake-a ba-le-kar-ki-t, behingoan jantzi-ko n-u-ke) ( Allande +Ergativ Jacke + Nominativ wenn + Saf. 3. sg. Pot. + bringen + IOaf. + IOaf. 1. sg., ganz-schnell angezogen + Zukunftssuffix Saf. 1. sg. + haben + Potaf. ) ( Wenn Allande mir die Jacke bringen würde, würde ich sie ganz schnell anziehen ) U15 In den Ausdrücken des Wollens und der Absicht folgt eine untergeordnete Verbalform in der Regel immer dern Hauptverb, ausser in solchen Sprachen, in denen das Nominalobjekt immer dern Verb vorausgeht. Letzteres ist der Fa11 im Baskischen ls. Josu etxera joan naai da, oder auch Josuk etxera joan nahi du. (JOSU etxe-ra joan nahi da) (Jesus Haus + Illativ gehen wollen ist ) (Jesus will nach Hause gehen) 13 "If the nominal object always precedes the verb, then verb forms subordinate to the main verb also precede it", a.a.0. S "In conditional statements, the con, ditional clause precedes the conclusion as the normal order in all languages", a.a.0. S "In expressions of volition and purpose, a subordinate verbal form always follows the main verb as normal order except in those languages in which the nominal object always precedes the verb", a.a.0. S. 111.
Es gibt kein solches Adjektiv in der baskischen Sprache "In languages with dominant order VSO, an inflected auxiliary always precedes the main verb. In languages with dominant order SOV, an inflected auxiliary always follows the main verb", a.a.0. S "With overwhelmingly more than chance frequency, languages wíth dominant order VSO have the adjective after the noun", a.a.0. S "When the descriptive adjective precedes the noun, the demonstrative and the numeral, with overwhelmingly more than chance frequency, do likewise", a.a.0. S "When the general rule is that the descriptive adjective follows, there may be a minority of adjectives which usually precede, but when the general rule is that descriptive adjectives precede, there are no exceptions", a.a.0. S. 111.
(Etxe-a berebil-a baino handbago-a da) ( Haus + Nominativ Auto + Nominativ als grop + Vglaf. +Nominativ ist ) (Das Haus ist grgper als das Auto) 20 "When any or al1 of %he items -demostrative, numeral, and descrigtive adjective- precede the noun, they are always found in that order. If they foliow. the order is either the same or its exact opposite", a.a.0. S "Ii some or al1 adverbs foiiow the adjective they modify, then the language is one in which the qualifiying adjective follows the noun and the verb precedes its nominal object as the dominant order", a.a.0. S "If in comparisons of superiority the only order or one of the alternative orders is standard-ma~ker-adjective, then the language is postpositional. With overwhelmingly more than chance frequency, if the only order is adjective-marker-standard, the language is prepositional", a.a.0. S. 111.
If in apposition the proper noun usually precedes the common noun, then the Janguage is one in which the governing noun precedes its dependent genitive. With much better than chance frequency, if the cornmon noun usualiy precedes the proper noun, the dependent genitive precedes its governing noun", a.a "If the relative expression precedes the noun either as the only construction or as an alternative constmction, either the language is postpositional or the adjective precedes the noun or both", a.a.0. S "If the pronominal object foliows the verb, so does the nominal object", a.a.0. s "ii a language has discontinous affixes, it always has either prefixing or suffixing or both", a.a.0. S "If a language is exclusivdy suffixing, it is postpositional; if it is exclusively prefixing, it is prepositional", a.a.0. S. 112.
U28 Die Derivationsmorpheme stehen naher am Stamm als die Beugunsmorpheme Itsaskapitainari (Itsaskapitain-ari) (Itsas + kapitain-ari) ( See + Kapitan + Dativ ) ( Dem Kapitan ) U29 Im Baskischen gibt es sowohl Derivation als auch Beugung. Siehe U28 ". + Wurzel + IOaf. + IOaf. 3. sg.) hakart: ha-kav-t ( DOaf. + Wurzel des Verbs + Subjektaffix 1. sg. ) = (ich bringe dich) 28 "If both the derivation and inflection follow the root, or they both precede the root, the derivation is always between the root and the inflection", a.a.0. S "If a language has inflection, it always has derivation", a.a.0. S "If the verb has categories of person-number or if has categories of gender, it always has tense-mode categories", a.a.0. S. 112.
Der Numerus kommt in den Verbalformen sowohl beim Subjekt als auch beim Objekt vor: Liburua erosi dut. (Liburu-a erosi d-u-t) ( Buch + Nominativ gekauft DOaf.

If either the subject or object noun agrees with the verb i!. gender, then the adjective always agrees with the noun in gender", a.a "Whenever the verb agrees with a nominal subject or nominal object in gender, it also agrees in number", a.a.0. S "When number agreement between the noun and verb is suspended and the rule is based on order, the case is always one in which the verb is in the singular", a.a.0. S "No language has a trial number unless it has a dual. No language has a dual unless it has a plural", a.a.0. S "There is no language in which the plural does not have some nonzero aliomorphs, whereas there are languages in which the singular is expressed only by zero. The dual and the trial are alrnost never rearesed only by zero", a.a.0. S "If a language has the category of gender, it always has the category of number", a.a.0. S "A language never has more gender categories in nonsingular nmbers than in the singular", a.a.0. S "Wbere there is a case system, the only case which ever has only zero allomorphs is the one which includes among its meanings that of the subject of the intransitive verb", a.a.0. S. 112.
39 "Where morphemes of both number and case are present and botb follow or both precede the noun base, the expression of number almost always comes between the noun base and the expression of case", a.a.0. S "Al1 languages have pronominal categories involving at least three persons and two numbers", a.a.0. S. 113.

RESUMEN El trabajo presentado se ha realizado siguiendo el modelo de los universales presentado por Joseph H. Greenberg en su artículo «Some universals of grammar with particular reference to the order of meaningful elements* ', que apareció en el libro por él dirigido «Universals of language». En dicho trabajo el autor valiéndose de 30 lenguas diferentes trata de obtener las estructuras comunes a los idiomas del mundo y para ello como dice en la introducción: «as indicated by the title, attention has been concentrated largely, but by no means exclusively, on questions concerning morpheme and word order. The reason for this choice was that previous experience suggested a considerable measure of oderliness in this particular aspect of grammar» '. 1 Joseph H.
