1 German 101 Prof. Kim Vivian Fall 2007 Office: DK 109 MWF (B Period) Phone: 7606 DK-B2 Office Hours: TTH , and by appointment I. Grading: Participation 10% A+ 100 Homework 10% A Quizzes 15% A Tests 65% B (Einführung: 5% B Kapitel 1: 10% B etc. Kapitel 2: 15% Kapitel 3: 15% Kapitel 4: 20%) II. Homework will be given a or a. Homework with a receives no credit but may be redone for credit. Late homework will be corrected but will not be credited, except in case of an excused absence. Homework is based on the 90/80/70/60 scale above. Thus if there are 20 homework assignments and you do not hand in, or hand in late, 5 assignments, the homework grade is 75%, or C, which accounts for 10% of the total grade. Lab assignments count as homework. The exercises in the lab manual can be accessed at: public folders/academic/german/deutsch, na klar!, and then either text or lab, the appropriate chapter, and the appropriate track. There will be multiple vocabulary quizzes per chapter of the grammar book. A list of missed vocabulary should be kept. After twenty missed words a quiz on those words can be taken, and the lowest quiz grade of the term will be replaced by the new grade. There may be other announced and unannounced quizzes. There will be one test per chapter of the grammar book. Tests are cumulative, building on material covered throughout the term. There will be no final. There are no makeups for quizzes or tests except in case of an excused absence. In case of an absence it is your responsibility to find out what happened in class. You should contact Prof. Vivian or a classmate for information. Participation (10% of the grade) involves 1) your willingness to speak voluntarily in class, 2) the ability to answer correctly when called on, 3) preparedness, and 4) attendance. Upon the second unexcused absence, your participation grade will be dropped one letter grade per unexcused absence. Punctuality is expected. Repeated tardiness will be counted as an absence. The German Department expects students to conform strictly to the Augustana Honor Code. No food or drink in class. Please eat breakfast before you come to class.
