1 Moravian College Foreign Language Department Introductory German I (Germ 105) Fall 2008 Instructor: Martina Buckley Office Hour: Monday 12:45-1:45pm (and by appointment) Office Location: Comenius C 409 Telephone: FL Department :(610) tbuckley@moravian.edu Class Meeting Schedule: MWF 10:10 11:20 am / Memorial Hall 301 Course Description: Introduction and practice of elements of language structures in the classroom through oral and written exercises as well as class participation and homework assignments. Reading, writing, listening to and speaking the language will be taught and practiced throughout the course. Prerequisite: German 100 or equivalent experience Objectives: This course is structured to provide students with a sound basis for learning German as it is spoken and written today. Students will have the opportunity to communicate in concrete situations, engage in basic conversations, master the basic features of the sound and writing systems and utilize a basic vocabulary and grammar knowledge. This course will also cover an introduction to contemporary life and culture in the German speaking countries. Course Outcome: Upon completion of this course the students will be able to participate in easy to intermediate German conversations, ask and answer everydays questions and understand basic German texts and talks.
