(3 points) (a) We have to compute ggt(f,d(f)): f is squarefree if and only if the ggt is a unit. This can be done as Char(Q) = 0, or also because as 1,2,3 0 in Q. (1pt) As D(f) = 3X 2 3 we apply the Euclidean Algorithm to X 3 3X +2 and 3X 2 3. We have X 3 3X+2 = 1 3 X (3X2 3)+( 2X+2), and 3X 2 3 = ( 3 2 X 3 2 )( 2X+ 2)+0. (b) Gibt es in G ein Element der Ordnung 7? (c) Welche Ordnungen können Elemente g G mit g 6 1 haben? (1 Punkte) Task 3: (5 points) Consider the multiplicative group G = (Z/13Z). Answer the following questions and justify every answer: (a) What is the order of G? (b) Is there an element of order 7 in G? (c) Which orders can elements g G with g 6 1 have? (1 points) (a) As 13 is a prime element in the principal ideal domain Z, Z/13Z is a field. (1pt) Hence, G = Z/13Z\{0} and G = Z/13Z 1 = 13 1 = 12. (1pt) (b) By Lagrange, ord G (g) G for all g G. As G = 12 and 7 is no divisor of 12, there is no element in G of order 7. (1pt) (c) By Lagrange, elements in G can have orders 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 12. (1pt) By Exercise 52 (a), g 6 has order ord G (g) ggt(6,ord G (g)). Hence: ord G (g) ggt(6,ord G (g)) ord G (g) ggt(6,ord G (g)) Hence, if g 6 1, then g must have order 4 or 12. (1pt) (One can show that G is cyclic, whence an element of order 12 exists: this shows that the orders 1 and 2 actually appear.) An alternative solution: g 6 = 1 ord G (g) 6. 6 Aufgabe 4: Zeige, dass es keine einfache Gruppe der Ordnung 148 gibt. Hinweis: 37 ist eine Primzahl. Task 4: Show that there is no simple group of order 148. Hint: 37 is a prime. (4 Punkte) (4 points) Let G be a group of order 148 = (1pt) By Sylow s Theorem 3, the number s 37 of 37-Sylow subgroups of G satisfies s 37 4 and s 37 1 (mod 37). (1pt) This is only satisfied if s 37 = 1. (1pt) By the corollary to the Sylow theorems, s 37 = 1 implies that the unique 37-Sylow subgroup is a normal subgroup in G. Therefore, G is not simple.
