1 Open Cloud Day 3 OPEN CLOUD DAY 10. Juni 2014, 08:30-17:00 an der Universität Bern UniS, Hörsaal A003, Schanzenstrasse 1, 3011 Bern Cloud Computing gewinnt immer mehr an Bedeutung und Gewicht. Damit die gesamten Möglichkeiten ausgeschöpft werden können, sollten Clouds nach den Prinzipen der Open Cloud Initiative aufgebaut werden. Das Ziel des Anlasses ist es, offene Clouds zu fördern und die Interoperabilität von Clouds zu verbessern. 3 Keynote La qualité suisse pour les open clouds: vers un nouvelle politique industrielle? Jean Christophe Schwaab, Nationalrat VD / SP ü La marque «qualité suisse» doit aussi s appliquer aux clouds. C est une chance pour notre pays. Et c est une chance pour la branche. ü La «qualité suisse», c est notamment: La sécurité La fiabilité La protection des données et de la sphère privée Or, on retrouve à mon avis toutes ces qualités dans les open clouds. Il est donc légitime de les développer. ü Malheureusement, l industrie du cloud est encore trop balbutiante en Suisse. C est par exemple incroyable que swisstopo ne trouve pas de partenaire en Suisse et doive faire appel à Amazon, qui n est, en plus, pas open (en plus des autres défauts de cette entreprise). ü La politique ne s intéresse pas (encore) aux clouds, ou alors, seulement par bribes. Elle ne s intéresse pas non plus aux open clouds. Elle ne sait d ailleurs pas ce que c est. Souvent, elle ne sait d ailleurs pas exactement ce qu «open» signifie. ü Les promoteurs des (open) clouds doivent donc : Se faire connaître des décideurs (le groupe parlementaire «informatique durable» est un bon début) ; leur montrer le potentiel économique de la branche ; et, surtout, indiquer précisément de quelles conditions-cadre elle a besoin. Jean Christophe Schwaab (* 23. August 1979 in Lausanne, heimatberechtigt in La Chauxde-Fonds und Lausanne) ist ein Schweizer Politiker (SP). Schwaab ist seit 2011 Mitglied des Nationalrats und ist dort in der Kommission für Rechtsfragen RK und der Begnadigungskommission BeK. Vorher war er seit März 2007 im Grossen Rat des Kantons Waadt. Weiter war er von 1999 bis 2008 im Gemeinderat von Bourg-en-Lavaux.

4 GovCloud 2014 Willy Müller, Chef Architekt, ISB Seit Mai 2013 ist das ISB daran, die vom Steuerungsausschuss E-Government verabschiedete Cloud-Strategie der Schweizer Behörden umzusetzen. Das Interesse an Cloud-Lösungen bleibt gross. Der Fall Snowden/NSA hat nochmals die Bedeutung des Datenschutzes und der Datensicherheit für die Behörden unterstrichen. Das Referat zeigt auf, welche Projektinhalte in der Zwischenzeit erzielt wurden und welche Aufgaben noch anstehen. Willy Müller is working for the Federal IT Steering Unit FITSU as Chief Architect. After his studies in psychology and information technology he worked as software engineer and project manager. He built the Competence Center Internet of the BIT. He set up ech, the Swiss association for egovernment standards, and is head of the egovernment architecture initiative, one of the prioritized projects of the Swiss egovernment strategy. In this context he is responsible for defining the cloud strategy for Swiss Governments and sponsor for its realisation. Deploying trusted developer sandboxes in Amazon s cloud Jason Brazile, Director Space, Netcetera Deploying trusted developer sandboxes in Amazon s cloud As Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) offerings in the cloud become more compelling, new collaboration possibilities emerge. A large European agency wished to offer vast satellite imagery free of charge to developers who create good applications for it. Instead of sending large volumes of data to many developers, why not offer a single dev environment in the cloud? Some developers don t trust putting their unprotected intellectual propery in the cloud. This talk describes an automated trusted remote Java development sandbox hosted in the Amazon cloud that uses strong encryption for system authentication and file system services. Security-conscious users can trust that their application intellectual property won t be leaked while trusting neither the cloud provider nor the operators who deploy and maintain the cloud-based sandbox service running on top of it. Jason is a software engineer and consultant at Netcetera, specializing in system analysis, design and prototyping. He holds an M.S. in computer science from the University of Texas and a PhD from the Remote Sensing Labs at the University of Zurich. Jason has more than 25 years of technology experience ranging from system engineering, products, applications, and integration in fields including research, telecommunications, aerospace, academia and banking/finance. At Netcetera he is director of business accounts with the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Italian Space Agency (ASI). He has long-time experience as developer, coach, architect, project manager, and consultant. Currently, he is working on the use of cloud technology in systems architecture and continuous development/operations (devops). Jason has spoken at numerous international academic and technical conferences about business topics such as product development and cloud governance as well as technical topics such as REST architectures, large volume image processing, and dynamic tracing of complex systems.

Das Bestreben der IT-Industrie zur automatischen Fertigung ist dabei das erklärte Ziel. Dabei stehen Unternehmen und Service Provider vor neuen Herausforderungen. Diese Referat soll aufzeigen wie IT-Unternehmen von einer projektorientierten Infrastruktur zu einer agilen private Cloud wechseln und welche Hürden dabei gemeistert werden müssen. Michael Heinzen studierte Informatik an der Fachhochschule Luzern und schloss mit der Diplomarbeit zum Thema Grid Computing als dipl. Informatik Ingenieur FH ab. Er ist seit 2007 bei der Acceleris GmbH als Technical Consultant im Bereich Infrastruktur und seit 2012 als Teamleiter für Datacenter Lösungen von Cisco tätig. Dabei fokusiert er auf das Thema Open Source und die Einsatzmöglichkeiten im Enterprise Umfeld um ganzheitliche und automatisierte Infrastruktur Lösungen für die Kunden von Acceleris zu erstellen. Cdist: Cloud Configuration made easy Nico Schottelius, ungleich GmbH Die Cloud bietet ein riesiges Potential zur Auslagerung von Diensten. Die Konfiguration der virtuellen Maschinen in der Cloud wird heutzutage jedoch immer noch sehr händisch vorgenommen. In diesem Vortrag zeigt Nico Schottelius das Konfigurationswerkzeug cdist mit dem die Konfiguration der Cloud auf einfache Art automatisiert werden kann. Nico Schottelius ist ein langjähriger Free and Open Source (FOSS) Hacker. Er ist im Bereich Skalierung und Entwicklung grosser Linux-Infrastrukturen zuhause. Er betreut(e) Linux-Cluster verschiedener Grössen bei diversen KMUs, der ETH und local.ch. Seit 2013 bietet er mit der ungleich GmbH international Dienstleistungen im Bereich FOSS/UNIX an.

6 Introduction to ZeroVM Muharem Hrnjadovic, Monetas AG ZeroVM is the first hypervisor designed specifically for the cloud and provides an open-source lightweight virtualization platform, based on the Google Native Client project. The talk will cover the technology, use cases and some examples. Main points: ü C & UNIX process abstraction: Instead of presenting a hardware abstraction to the developer, ZeroVM presents UNIX style processes, which communicate through pipes ü Disposable VM per request: In ZeroVM, instances are not reused. Instead a new clean VM is created for every incoming request. ü Easily Embeddable: ZeroVM is a hypervisor with an executable size of ~75KB. It is easily embedded into cloude storage systems enabling local processing ( send code to the data ) ü Highly Performant: ZeroVM requires negligible overhead for CPU, memory and I/O. This makes it great for number-crunching applications, whereas significant IO overhead still exists with KVM / XEN / VMWare. Muharem Hrnjadovic is a cloud advocate with Monetas AG, hacks mostly in Python and is interested in anything that helps with deploying, monitoring and (auto)scaling of systems in the cloud. 7 SWITCH Cloud - eine akademische Cloud für die Schweizer Hochschulen Jens-Christian Fischer, Switch SWITCH erschliesst den Wissensraum Unter diesem Motto bietet SWITCH den Schweizer Hochschulen eine Reihe von Dienstleistungen - angefangen vom akademischen Netzwerk über eine Schweiz weite Single-Sign-On Lösung hin zu Kollaborationsdienstleistungen. Auf der SWITCH Cloud bieten wir eine Reihe von neuen Dienstleistungen an, die es den Wissenschaftern und Studenten ermöglichen, noch effektiver zusammenzuarbeiten. SWITCHdrive ist ein Filesharing Dienst, der seit April 2014 produktiv ist und auf der neuen SWITCH Cloud läuft. SWITCHdrive ist eine Alternative zu Dropbox und ähnlichen Diensten, und erfüllt das Kriterium der Datenhaltung in der Schweiz. SWITCH Cloud selber wird ab Sommer 2014 IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) und ab Herbst 2014 StaaS (Storage as a Service) anbieten. Jens-Christian Fischer erzählt über Architektur & Aufbau der SWITCH Cloud und den darauf aufbauenden Diensten, und wie diese angeboten werden. Anhand Praxisbeispielen zeigt er, wie man mit Open Source Komponenten (OpenStack, Ceph und owncloud) und Commercial offthe-shelf Hardware ansprechende und konkurrenzfähige Dienstleistungen anbietet. FI-Lab, A cloud-based implementation of a Future Internet Eco-System Thomas Michael Bohnert, Adjunkt Professor (Docent) at Zurich University of Applied Sciences / ICCLab The speech will introduce the FI-LAB environment as open innovation laboratory where developers can create web solutions for the internet of the future according the Future Internet Public Private Partnership programme (FI-PPP). It will be shown what is the rich library of Generic Enablers offered as a Service, through well-defined Service End Points, or created with the tools provided by the Cloud at FI-LAB. In particular, FI-LAB offers developers the opportunity for free experimentation with the technology by simply the creation of FI-LAB account on FI-LAB site ( Thomas Michael Bohnert is Adjunkt Professor (Docent) at Zurich University of Applied Sciences where he heads the Research Area Service Engineering, that comprises the InIT Cloud Computing Laboratory and the Service Engineering Lab.His interests are focused on enabling ICT infrastructures, coarsely ranging across mobile / cloud computing, service-oriented infrastructure, and carrier-grade service delivery (Telco + IT). Prior to being appointed by ZHAW he was with SAP Research, SIEMENS Corporate Technology, and ran his own ICT consultancy. He was a visiting scholar at NEC Network Research Labs, Tampere University of Technology, VTT Technical Research Centre, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications during his PhD studies at the University of Coimbra. His works have been published in several books, journals, and conferences. He serves as regional correspondent (Europe) for the IEEE Communication Magazine s news section (GCN). He is the founder of the IEEE Broadband Wireless Access Workshop ( and holds several project and conference chairs. From he was on the steering board of the European Technology Platform Net!Works and co-chairs the EC DG NET FUTURES Future Internet Cluster. Deep involvement in the design of the Future Internet Public-Private-Partnership ( led to the appointment as Deputy Chief Architect, presiding the FI-PPP Architecture Board and the FI-WARE project. He is the technical coordinator of the Mobile Cloud Networking project. Thomas contributes with his expertise to several expert groups of the European Commission on the future of ICT research.

Local Cloud Implementation for Robust Applications for Smart Infrastructures Albena Mihovska, Center for TeleInfrastruktur, Aalborg University, Aalborg, Denmark The integration of existing heterogeneous vertical M2M systems into a new horizontal platform has been recognized as a key factor to boost the development of the Internet of Things vision. In this scenario, the European project BETaaS (Building the Environment for the Things as a Service) aims at developing a framework to enable integration of different M2M systems exposing physical objects to applications through a novel service-oriented interface, the Things as a Service model. Built on a distributed architecture made of a local cloud of gateways, the BETaaS platform transparently integrates existing heterogeneous M2M systems. Smart things are exposed through a service-oriented unified interface, the Things as a Service model, which allows applications to access things. This talk will cover the various aspects to this local cloud implementation and about the benefits its offers in terms of QoS, support of context-awareness and dependability of smart M2M applications. Albena Mihovska has a PhD degree from Aalborg University, Aalborg, Denmark where she is currently an Associate Professor and Head of Standardisation at CTIF. She has a strong radio communications background and is currently involved in research related to integration of radio communications into the cloud and Internet of Things scenarios for optimizing and supporting reliable and high performance intensive data rate communications. She has been active within ITU-T GSI-IoT standardization.

Why a vendor agnostic approach is vital to own your own governance. Richard Morrell is Red Hat s Cloud Evangelist for territories outside North America specifically EMEA. Formerly he was our Senior Cloud Solutions Architect as we took first steps into the Cloud. With a background in Consultancy and high level government and defence accounts worldwide he has a specialisation in security specific topics and markets where Cloud adoption is starting to grow in financial, government and risk averse enterprise customers. Working in OpenSource since 1997, working with Red Hat for almost fifteen years and the community even longer he is the co-author of SmoothWall the ever popular Linux firewall technology, former staffer at Linuxcare, VA Linux, Zimbra, Virgin and more recently a Principal at Logica heading up Cloud and Security. He is formerly a UK Government CLAS consultant responsible for all Linux and Unix technology in above Classified levels for Defence usage and advises on Cyberterrorism and security at the highest levels in the UK and for overseas friendly governments in the EU and North America.

10 Scalable Cloud Storage using GlusterFS Tiziano Müller, Developer & System Engineer, stepping stone GmbH Today s cloud solutions create an ever growing demand for flexible, scalable and available storage. At the same time the competitive environment forces cloud providers to offer cost-effective storage. To face this challenge, the open source community offers several solutions, with the most widely ones being Ceph and GlusterFS. The presentation introduces GlusterFS as an example of a distributed, replicated file system capable of scaling up to several petabytes, built upon cost-efficient commodity hardware. You will receive a technology overview of GlusterFS, an introduction to redundancy and fault tolerance configurations and how GlusterFS data can be accessed by client systems. The presentation will be concluded by showing how GlusterFS can be integrated into virtualization environments using the QEMU block driver which is built upon libgfapi and therefore avoiding the FUSE overhead. Tiziano Müller has been an active member of the Open Source community for more than 15 years. In 2010 he joined stepping stone GmbH, which offers their customers personal advice in the areas of engineering and automation of IT-services with emphasis on Open Source based solutions. Their own Swiss Cloud allows the operation of individual solutions, assembled from modular, standardised components. Here Tiziano Müller has since been responsible as a DevOp for the smooth running of the infrastructure. He is also one of the main developers of the stoney cloud. Cloud Computing aus der Sicht des Anwendungsarchitekten Prof. Dr. Olaf Zimmermann, Institute for Software, Hochschule für Technik Rapperswil Fachhochschule Ostschweiz (HSR FHO) Architekten und Entwickler, die Cloud-Services nutzen wollen, sind mit einer Vielzahl neuer Designoptionen konfrontiert, z.b. nichtrelationale Speichertechniken (NoSQL), Message-Oriented Middleware mit At-Least-Once Delivery und Virtualisierung. Nicht alle klassischen Entwurfsmuster eignen sich für Cloud-Anwendungen; mit den Cloud-Resourcen muss sparsam und fehlertolerant umgegangen werden. Cloud-Anbieter unterscheiden sich stark hinsichtlich ihrer Preismodelle, der zugesicherten Dienstgüten (Service Level Agreements) sowie der zur Verfügung stehenden Programmierund Managementschnittstellen. Dieser Vortrag: ü etabliert ausgewählte Cloud Computing Konzepte anhand von Architekturmustern ü stellt wichtige Designoptionen und Praktiken bei ausgewählten Cloud-Anbietern vor und ü zeigt, wie Anwendungsarchitekturen cloudfähig gemacht werden können. Schwerpunkte werden dabei die Themen herstellerunabhängiger Entwurf und Architectural Refactoring for Cloud darstellen. Dr. Olaf Zimmermann ist Professor für Software-Architektur an der Hochschule für Technik (HSR FHO), Rapperswil. Er ist bei der Open Group als Distinguished (Chief/Lead) IT Architect zertifiziert, Mitglied des Advisory Boards von IEEE Software und besitzt 20 Jahre IT-Industrieerfahrung (IBM, ABB). Herr Zimmermann war lange als Lösungsarchitekt in der Beratung tätig und entwarf u.a. unternehmensweite SOAs.

Mit CloudForms können Sie die Nutzung von Ressourcen dynamisch und automatisch optimieren. Zusätzlich ermöglicht CloudForms die Berechnung und Planung des künftigen Ressourcenbedarfs auf Grundlage von Daten und Analysen zu Kapazitäten und Trends. In diesem Hands On Workshop gewinnen Sie einen Ueberblick über die umfangreichen Funktionen von CloudForms. Die Teilnehmer müssen eigene Hardware (Laptop/Desktop) mitbringen, um auf die CloudForms-Umgebung zugreifen zu können. Benötigt wird ein Webbrowser IE 9 oder neuer oder Firefox 10 oder neuer. Andere Browser werden wahrscheinlich auch funktionieren, sind aber nicht supported. Auf dem eigenen Computer wird keine Software installiert. Peter Mumenthaler ist bei der Firma Puzzle ITC GmbH co-bereichsleiter und System-Architekt. Er beschäftigt sich seit dem Erscheinen intensiv mit CloudForms 3.0. OpenSource, das Thema Cloud und Linux gehört zu seinem täglichen Brot. We ll discuss the challenges faced while building a multi-data centre cloud which can met these stringent regulatory requirements using OpenStack and the results so far. Chris Bingham has a background in industrial high performance computing and worked on OpenStack proof of concept systems for FMI in Basel and ETH Zürich as part of the Swiss Academic Compute Cloud project. He now leads the Cloudlynx engineering team, who are designing and building out Datalynx Group s public IaaS cloud service. From vertical to horizontal: the challenges of scalability in the cloud Pierre-Yves Ritschard, CTO - exoscale As cloud adoption rises, new infrastructure pattern emerges. The volatility of nodes and the ephemeral nature of storage in on-demand environments challenges the way we reason about application design and architecture. Pierre-Yves responsible for architecture and strategic technology choices, relying on experience in the architecture of very large corporate system as well as technical product design in several startups. Pierre-Yves is an active member of the open-source community with key contributions to OpenBSD, collectd and riemann amongst others.

Pierre will also share his expertise related to the Cloud Security Alliance framework, recommendations on how to overcome implementation challenges Pierre Vacherand is is the CTO (Chief Technical Officer) of Apalia, a System integrator specialized in Cloud Infrastructure. Pierre is a Cloud IaaS specialist and has been involved with CloudStack since 2010 and designed numerous Public and Private Clouds using CloudStack. He led the design of Amysta, a metering and billing solution for Apache CloudStack. He is also an active member of the Cloud Security Alliance. Pierre has been speaking at Build a Cloud Days, CloudStack meetups and CloudStack Collaboration Conference Europe and USA. CYCLOPS - A Charging platform for OpenStack Clouds Piyush Harsh, ZHAW In this presentation, ICCLab will unveil the charging platform for OpenStack cloud that they have been developing. The talk will cover the architecture design, features, and the software roadmap for the coming months. Piyush Harsh is a researcher in ICCLab within Institute of Applied Information Technology at Zurich University of Applied Sciences. Before joining ICCLab, he was working at INRIA as research engineer where he lead the development of Contrail Virtual Execution Platform. He is currently involved in Mobile Cloud Networking and T-Nova projects funded by European Commission. At ICCLab, he heads the Cloud Economics initiative, and is researching generic ways of doing rating-charging-billing in the cloud. He received his PhD from University of Florida in 2010.

Bis Ende 2012 war er der CIO des Eidgenössischen Instituts für Geistiges Eigentum. Inzwischen arbeitet er als selbständiger Informatiker mit der Firma GnostX GmbH. Daneben ist er im Vorstand von /ch/open, des WWF Bern und im Verwaltungsrat verschiedener Firmen aktiv. Mit Open Source und offenen Standards beschäftigt er sich seit etwa zehn Jahren. Mark Waber, Puzzle ITC GmbH, Vorstand /ch/open Mark Waber ist Geschäftsführer und Mitgründer von Puzzle ITC in Davor arbeitete er als Projektleiter und Software-Entwickler bei der Firma Dynasystem (heutige NEXPLORE AG). Er schloss sein Studium an der Ingenieurschule Biel (heutige Berner Fachhochschule) 1997 als Dipl. Informatik Ingenieur HTL ab. Seit 2012 ist Mark Waber Vorstand der Swiss Open Systems User Group /ch/open. Er ist Certified ScrumMaster und absolviert im Moment ein Executive MBA Studium an der privaten Business School ZfU. Prof. Dr.Thomas Michael Bohnert, ZHAW Thomas Michael Bohnert ( is Associate Professor (Docent) at Zurich University of Applied Sciences. His interests are focused on enabling ICT infrastructures, coarsely ranging across mobile / cloud computing, service-oriented infrastructure, and carrier-grade service delivery (Telco + IT). Prior to being appointed by ZHAW he was with SAP Research, SIEMENS Corporate Technology, and ran an IT consultancy named BNCS. He was a visiting scholar at Tampere University of Technology, NEC Network Research Labs, VTT Technical Research Centre, and Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications.

His research interests are related to the studies and implementations of Future Internet technologies including cloud services and infrastructures aspects for the Smart Cities. His solid background in the industry allows to have a broad vision of market impacts and needs for the research and education. He is currently involved in the project FI PPP CONCORD and proposal preparations. After receiving is Master s degree in electronic engineering and IT at the University of Naples (Italy), Antonio started working as trainer at the Italian AIR force in telecommunications and air-navigation systems, then for the transport industry (Ansaldo) as HW designer and for the telecommunication industry (Alcatel Lucent) working in the radio mobile research department, primarily involved in mobile research activities for system definition and network architecture on Mobile Broadband System project (MBS / 60 GHz ), UMTS Monet, OBANET and Moicane (FP5 programme). He has a long experience in marketing and product lifecycle for legacy switching,ngn, web applications and optics technologies. During last decade, he has been involved in preparation and participation coordination of EU research projects (FP6-WEIRD, FP6-Onelab, FP6-ephoton+ and FP6-Magnet beyond) for IST area and then for FP7 (ETICS, ECONET, Outsmart, Smart Santander and FIWARE). In april 2013 joined the InT ICCLAB team, Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) school of engineering, as researcher.
