1 German-American Steuben Parade MANHATTAN, NY, SAMSTAG, th Avenue zwischen 67 th und 86 th St. Liebe SchülerInnen, Eltern und Mitglieder der Schulgemeinde, es ist wieder Zeit für die alljährliche Steubenparade in Manhattan! Sie findet am Samstag, dem statt. Die Teilnahme der Deutschen Internationalen Schule New York an dieser Parade ist inzwischen eine schöne Tradition geworden und eine gute Möglichkeit, sich in New York zu präsentieren! Deshalb möchte die GISNY auch in diesem Jahr mit möglichst vielen Mitgliedern der Schulgemeinde dabei sein. GISNY-T-Shirts werden am Freitag, um 14 Uhr im Haupteingang verkauft. Die Schule stellt Busse zur Verfügung und damit der Bustransport von der Schule nach Manhattan und zurück reibungslos verläuft, bitten wir Sie um Ihre Mithilfe: den Abschnitt bitte ausfüllen und bis spätestens Dienstag, den beim Klassenlehrer abgeben! Dear Students, Parents and Members of the GISNY School Community, This year the annual German-American Steuben Parade in Manhattan will take place on Saturday, September 16, Participation in this parade is a long-standing tradition which offers us a great opportunity to present our school to a wider community. We hope that many of you will take part in this wonderful event again this year. We will be selling GISNY-T-Shirts on Friday, September 15th at 2:00pm in the main lobby. Bus transportation to and from Manhattan is provided by GISNY. Please fill out the registration form and return it to the homeroom teacher by Tuesday, September 12 th!

4 Methodentag / Methods Day Dear Parents, This school year s Methods Day for grades 5 12 will take place on Friday, September 22nd. The students will work on competences of methods in two sessions that day. There will be an organized break around am, for which we would like to ask you for your help. Do you have a talent which you would like to share with our students? And would you be able to lead a workshop? If that is the case, please jcollins@gisny.org Thank you for your help! Liebe Eltern! Wie im Schuljahr 16/17 suchen wir auch für unseren Methodentag des Gymnasiums im Schuljahr 17/18 Eltern, die bereit sind, die Pausen-Workshops für unsere Klassen 5-12 eigenverantwortlich durchzuführen. Wir wären Ihnen/euch sehr dankbar, wenn Sie/ihr uns unterstützen, diesen Tag für unsere Kinder besonders zu gestalten! 5 SAVE THE DATE! Dear Parents and Students, We have been busy organizing our Schoolympics Sportfest This year s Schoolympics will take place on Saturday, October 21 (rain date Sunday, October 22). As this is a mandatory school day for our students, we would like to use this day as an opportunity for all families to get to know each other in a relaxed atmosphere. There will be lots of games for students as well as younger siblings. All students (ES - grade 10) will meet at 9:45 AM in the gym to prepare for the big opening ceremony. Everybody else will meet on the lawn in the back of the school at 10:00 AM. Students from Grades 1-10 will compete in team games until 12:00 noon and will be supervised by their team leader during this time. Families can cheer on their children s team, have fun at the game stations with younger siblings or just enjoy a cup of coffee with new and old friends. Make sure to pick up your free game station stamp card at the organization table in order to participate in the raffle at 2.00PM. There will be supervision by teachers throughout the day. However, we would like all children from Pre- K to Grade 4 to have a supervising adult present on the school grounds. Schedule for the day will be following: 9:45 am - all children grade ES- grade 10 meet in the gym 10:15 am - opening ceremony 10:45 am - team games begin am - funs stations open for siblings / ES- and Pre-K- students 12:00 noon end of team games / fun stations open for everyone 14:00 pm - awards ceremony and raffle 15:00 pm end Please let us know if you have any questions, concerns or if you need to notify us of the absence of your child/children by sending an to kwieborg@gisny.org or mwienand@gisny.org We are looking forward to a fun filled day! 6 Chess AG For this school year, the Chess AG is scheduled on Mondays for first graders and on Thursdays for Grades 2-7. For the first semester, there will be 15 sessions for the Monday group (cost: $300 per student) and 16 sessions for the Thursday group (cost: $320 per student). Chess classes will start the week of Sept 18 th. For those who are interested in having your child enroll in the AG, please complete the following steps: (1) register your child on the SignUp Genius website on Sept 11 th, (2) complete the registration form, (3) write a check payable to the National Scholastic Chess Foundation, and (4) return the form + check in an envelope labeled Chess AG to the front office or send it in your child s yellow folder by Thursday, Sept 14 th. September 2017, um Uhr ein, aber dieses Jahr im Haus von Familie Wolper. Wir hoffen auf rege Beteiligung und freuen uns auf ein nettes Beisammensein und einen interessanten Gedankenaustausch zwischen Eltern und Lehrerkollegium. Allen, die zum Gelingen dieses Abends beitragen, sei herzlich gedankt! This year our Newcomers Club will host a Back-to-School Wine & Cheese Event on Friday, September 22 nd from 7: PM. This is the first year that the vent will be held at the home of a parent, Mrs. Lori Wolper. Please mark your calendars! We look forward to an enjoyable evening with parents and teachers. A grateful thank you goes out to all of those who help make this annual event a success! Local Parents Group Informational Evening Sept. 19 th at 7.00PM We are a group of parents who are interested in keeping our children at GISNY through 12th grade so that they receive both a NYS high school diploma and the DIA with the option to attend either a US or European university. Therefore, we are committed to supporting the GISNY teachers and administration to bolster test preparation, college counseling, dual language support, competitive sports and extracurricular activities. Please join us on Tuesday, September 19th at 7:00pm at GISNY. Please bring your ideas and questions.
