7 curriculum vitae - Gilbert Ahamer - page 7 Annex: general profile "3x3" In order to prepare for my career in a long-term perspective, I completed university studies that appeared relevant to the environment / energy / the economy (E3). (thus far, this interdisciplinary background seems to be unique in Austria.) 1. University degrees in three fields of: (i) Energy/Technology: Technical Physics & Dissertation in Mechanical Engineering (ii) Environment: post-graduate studies in the Technical Protection of the Environment (iii) Economy: post-graduate studies in Economics, Law and Business Administration. 2. In order to gain experience in understanding the specific standpoints in different sectors of society, I have worked in three roles: (i) at universities and research institutions (IIASA, Joanneum Research, Reactor Institute and TU Graz, University Giessen, lecturer for five universities) (ii) for the national administration (for the Federal Country of Salzburg and the City of Graz, in the Federal Environment Agency Vienna); basic course and examination in administration and as a Pre-Accession Adviser (registered with the Diplomatic Protocol) to the Slovak Republic in a Twinning Project funded by the EU DG Enlargement (iii) as an approved independent consultant (Ziviltechniker). 3. Past studies helped to gain knowledge in 2 + 2/2 languages: (i) English (working language at IIASA, publications) (ii) French (1 year of studies at INSA and rapport de stage at CNRS in Toulouse) (iii) to a lesser extent Italian and Serbo-Croatian (2 years of studies at university). --- My basic motivation is to work for public interest. I think that science should not be an end in itself but rather aimed at impacting society and encouraging sustainable development. Scientific studies should enhance the possibilities of finding compromises and solutions for controversial and complex issues.
