5 Ziel des heutigen strategischen Managements Concern is growing among strategy scholars that many strategic management models and frameworks focus mainly on issues associated with enhancing productivity and efficiency, while firms and even industries often find themselves under increasing pressure to gain legitimacy, or wider social acceptance, among diverse groups of stakeholders (Krause, Filatotchev, & Bruton, 2016). Of course, economic efficiency and social legitimacy arguments are not mutually exclusive, and the firms need to be financially viable to secure their long term sustainability, but strategic management educators should be sensitive to the increasing recognition that firms may have broader societal objectives that extend beyond mere financial profitability. 10 Roles of firms and stakeholders in the value creation processes Ø Benefit providers: participants in value creation can contribute in a variety of ways, from emotional engagement to sharing resources. Ø Benefit receivers: participants in value creation can benefit due to gaining or enhancing their resources of any kind. Ø Risk bearers: by making specific contributions, the participants in value creation take specific risks. It may be difficult for them, for example, to apply and evaluate specific knowledge outside the network. Ø Risk providers: participants of value creation can pose potential threats to interactions in the network and can even destroy value. 11 Mit «mehr Herz» soll Uber in Fahrt gebracht werden I «Erst wenn in einer Firma Herz und Verstand zusammenkommen, erst dann geschehen die Wunder.» Mit diesem Satz beantwortete der Uber-Chef Dara Khosrowshahi an der Technologiekonferenz die ihm gestellte Frage, ob der Ride-Sharing-Dienst ein Herz benötige. Sowohl Frage als auch Antwort muten auf den ersten Blick etwas esoterisch an, haben aber einen handfesten Hintergrund. Das Unternehmen geriet vor einem Jahr an den Rand des Abgrunds, nachdem offenkundig geworden war, dass es Uber an ethischen Grundsätze fehlte. Dieser Mangel mündete in einer toxischen Unternehmenskultur. Vorwürfe von Sexismus und Chauvinismus, die Aufdeckung einer Schummelsoftware und die Ereignisse um einen Anti- Trump-Streik der New Yorker Taxifahrer, die dazu führten, dass Tausende von Kunden die Uber-App löschten, sowie der Rauswurf des Gründers zeigten schliesslich, dass das Fehlen einer auf Werten basierenden Kultur handfeste Konsequenzen haben kann Business & Society Prof. Dr. Sybille Sachs 12

12 Uber II Khosrowshahi machte deutlich, dass es sich Uber nicht mehr leisten kann, sich über die Befindlichkeiten der Fahrer oder der Städte hinwegzusetzen. War einst das rücksichtslose Vorpreschen wesentliche Voraussetzung für den Erfolg gewesen, sei nun klar, dass neue Vorfälle der Firma schaden könnten. Das gilt umso mehr, als der mit 70 Mrd. $ bewertete Uber-Konzern nächstes Jahr an die Börse gehen und darüber hinaus «eines Tages Mobilitätslösungen via Autos, Scooters oder auch fliegende Autos für Milliarden von Menschen anbieten will». Den internen Kulturwandel, das gab der gebürtige Iraner unumwunden zu, habe man noch nicht bewältigt; zu sehr sei er mit der Etablierung neuer Beziehungen nach aussen, etwa zu Vertretern von Städten und Ländern, sowie dem Aufbau eines Managementteams beschäftigt gewesen Business & Society Prof. Dr. Sybille Sachs Seite 13

13 Uber III Generell weitete der Uber-Chef den Verantwortungsbereich des Unternehmens erstaunlich stark aus. Als Plattformbetreiber verbinde man zwar nur die Nachfrage mit dem Angebot, dennoch müsse sich Uber zunehmend verantwortlich fühlen für Fahrer und Passagiere. So beschäftige man sich bei Uber etwa mit der Problematik der sozialen Absicherung (Krankenversicherung, Altersvorsorge usw.) für die Fahrer. Hier müsse eine Lösung gefunden werden, die irgendwo zwischen einer Festanstellung der Fahrer mit den damit verbundenen hohen Kosten für das Unternehmen liege und einem völlig unverbindlichen und ohne soziale Ansprüche versehenen Arbeitsverhältnis, wie es derzeit in den USA praktiziert werde Business & Society Prof. Dr. Sybille Sachs Seite 14

These licenses are not exclusively the legal authorization for corporate activity, but rather a comprehensive entitlement for a mutual value creation process between firm and the stakeholders. 18 Stakeholder licenses The three licenses are not only salient for the firms but also for all engaged stakeholders in mutual value creation. Stakeholders such as shareholders, customers, suppliers, NGOs etc. have to be aware that as participants in a stakeholder network they can enhance or weaken the potentials of the network but also of their own projects, issues, products or services. 23 License to compete Competing is understood as benchmarking between similar kinds of value creation processes, and serves to increase the motivation for mutual value creation. ( ) Benchmarking between similar processes and outcomes is essential to motivate superior value creation rather than outperforming rivals. 24 In der hiesigen Leistungsgesellschaft leiden viele unter Druck und Stress am Arbeitsplatz Die Schweiz verdankt ihren Reichtum unter anderem der calvinistisch geprägten Arbeitsmoral. Doch diese hat auch Schattenseiten. Bei den Faktoren für emotionale Belastungen rangieren Überlastung und Stress an erster Stelle. 42 Prozent gaben an, sie hätten in den letzten zwölf Monaten unter diesen Phänomenen gelitten und eine Nachfrage ergab, dass Druck am Arbeitsplatz der Hauptgrund war. «Arbeit stiftet Sinn, aber sie kann auch krank machen», sagt Roger Staub, Geschäftsführer von Pro Mente Sana. 26 Relevant stakeholders: Direct and indirect stakeholders of the network The cast of stakeholders is also influenced by the fact that the firm can have different and changing positions in its environment and is always embedded in evolving stakeholder networks. As these stakeholders are interrelated with other stakeholders, sometimes they contribute not only directly to the value creation process but also indirectly. 30 Requirements in the perspective of the license to compete Both firms and stakeholders should have opportunities and incentives to contribute their potentials to mutual value creation in order to develop superior value for all involved parties. Developing transparent benchmarks of stakeholder networks is essential so that firms and the stakeholders can favor specific networks for superior value creation. Competition is seen as a stimulant for the parties involved. Mutual value creation means the interaction of a cast of stakeholders as indispensable contributors and receivers of benefit and risks.
